This book is about how facilitators interact with participants during large, complex workshops. It is not about agenda design but rather about the behaviors that lead to engagement, insight and energy. It is intended for experienced facilitators rather than beginners.

“The Rolling Stones is much too big a sound for this hour of the morning, but we need something too big, because the next three days are going to be very big indeed!”

If you like books about design workshop facilitation; even as a beginner reading a book intended for experienced facilitators, I found Dan’s notes, stories, and lessons incredibly insightful and wonderfully thought-provoking. I know I will be returning to this book for guidance as I endeavor to become a truly effective facilitator.

Dan Newman has spent much of his…. Jeez. Look at that. I’m giving myself the third-person treatment. Let's not pretend I have "people" to man this site. We both know it's me.

The basics; I’m an Englishman by birth, a Canadian by immigration, and amalgam of several wonderful places in Southern Africa by virtue of the time I’ve spent there growing up.

I’m a citizen of the beach thanks to my formative
