Let me start by admitting that I typically do not read YA books anymore. (Not since I was a teen myself.). This book centres around Syd, a ninth grade girl, travelling through life, trying to make sense of the world around her. Onion Girl hits on current dilemmas faced by teens during such a crazy hormonally charged time. Friendship, mental illness, depression, love and more. This was a cute book. It's definitely targeted for a younger audience than I usually read, but it was cute.

Syd is the new girl in school. She has an unfortunate haircut, due to being the guinea pig for her beauty stylist mother, and on the first day of school her unisex name coupled with the haircut have everyone convinced she's a boy.

Things are downhill for a while and it was kind of frustrating watching Syd flounder her way through life in the "big city" but by the end I feel like Syd had real
