There are moments in life that are never forgotten... like the first time you meet someone who becomes your friend forever. This book is for those friends who know they'll always have a special place in each other's heart -- wherever their lives may take them. The unique handmade paper used for the cover of this book is first crafted from mulberry trees and then hand-colored by artisans. Each book cover in this eloquent series is distinct and different, and the environment is not harmed in the making of this paper.
These poems are well meant but do not contain a lot of imagery nor is there much brilliant use of language. I'd be happy to receive a poem like this from a friend but as a book of poetry it fell flat for me. The poems are vague and often end in heartfelt but cliched sentiments.
A Friend Forever has nice sentiments about friendship, but not a lot of depth. It's a subject that can and should be explored in a more meaningful way. This collection of poetry often reads as a series of greeting card sayings. There is not much in the way of colorful imagery, as another reviewer says, or descriptive feelings or deep emotions. Instead it comes off a bit pat. There are some gems in here, such as Friend by Lanny Allen, which I flagged to return to, but overall it leaves a bit to be desired for a volume of poetry.
That being said, it's the type of book you could give to a friend and know that they understood why - as I said, it does share some nice sentiments. The pictures are simple but pretty, and appropriate for the content that accompanies them.
I connected with some poems more than others but I loved the idea of having a friend that no matter the distance and time between us, the connection still remains.
"You know that however much time passes without you hearing from me, there is not a day that does not in some way or other bring me nearer to you or remind me of our friendship"
