A háborút gyerekként, fiatal katonaként – nem ritkán gyerekkatonaként – átélő, földig rombolt városokban vegetáló vagy oda a frontról, fogolytáborból hazatérő fiatalok nem tudnak és nem is akarnak úgy írni, ahogyan a háború előtt és alatt lehetett, illetve kellett. Elutasítanak minden pátoszt, agitációt és spekulációt, s a puszta tények, a tárgyi valóság szinte dokumentarista leírása lép náluk a fennkölt eszmék és esztétikai műfogások helyébe. Beckernél, bár fokozatosan finomodva és átszűrve, lényegében mindvégig megmarad ez az antipoetikus költői látás- és szerkesztésmód, szikár, szenvtelen nyelvezet.
Basically me reading this was kind of a joke. I mean really, poetry in a language you do not understand every word in? Ridiculous! Each and every word in poems holds so much importance, so hey, I'd say 70% of the poems' meanings were lost on me. Fun times!
Never mind that though, Hungarian is one of the most beautiful languages in my opinion, so it was a pleasure to simply read these aloud and hear the melody of the words strung into sentences. (And I did understand some of it)
Might need to give Jürgen Becker a try in German, after all, I do understand that slightly better than Hungarian haha...
