First of all, this story falls into the horror genre. It’s also an adventure with characters thrown together by fate (or was it?) and no clear cut villains. The relationships are complicated and the twists are many. There is no HEA, as the series doesn’t appear to be finished, but yet it’s also not a cliffhanger. There is a ton of f-bombs dropped, but since I hear that daily, I wasn’t disturbed. There is no sex, no descriptions of weapons and definitely no

Things have changed drastically for David and his friends since they turned their back on the Shadow Mountains and the Cogar Rí, aka The Whisper King. David is struggling with the knowledge that his daughter has been imprisoned in the Shadow Mountains. He also finds himself struggling to come to terms with who his true enemies are, as he realizes he's been betrayed and that the loss of his Cuthac was for a false mission.

Daughter of Shadows picks up pretty much right where the first one leaves off. It begins with the main character, David, trying to figure out a way to save his daughter. The plot sort of changes directions from there and becomes mostly about something else, but it is still related to his ultimate goal. In fact, in reflecting on the story as a whole, I'm glad that it was done that way. I don't think the story would have been as good had it s

It took me a while to get into The Whisper King, mainly because of the crude language from the start. But you adapt to the writing style and get swept up in the story. The originality of the first book, plus the fact I thoroughly enjoyed it, meant I was eager to read Daughter of Shadows and see how David’s story progresses.

First of all, there is very little of David’s daughter in the book, despite the title. The whole plot stems around his desire to rescue her, first from th

There was literally never a dull moment and even though the language and jokes are crass and over the top, the fighting scenes are violent and gory, I never felt grossed out and it all fell true to the plot and characters. The writer has a way of writing that even though the events and characters are set in this fantastical world, it isn’t hard to suspend one’s beliefs; it feels so realistic and relatable.
