Meet Dream, a young, bright-eyed girl growing up in the slums of St. Louis. Unlike most girls in her neighborhood, Dream has the luxury of growing up with something most of her friends don't have, a father. But when tragedy strikes her life at the age of eight, Dream's perfect world comes crashing down around her. Soon, she finds herself thrown into a life of horror and pain. Forced from the only home she's ever known, she learns the hard way that the only thing she has of value is her body and the only way she can survive is to use it. With a vicious pimp on her heels and nowhere to run, Dream is forced to adapt to a life on the streets in one of the worlds most dangerous cities.
"Dopesick" is about being taken away in a carefree place where reality does not exist; or does it? It gives you the front end of what it's like to be in the abyss of addiction and the fear of withdrawal. Sacred is from the bricks of New Jersey ; and she has seen it all. She has struggled when it comes to the dark side of this game, but will there be a point that she will see the light? In "Dopesick" you will experience the pain and the depths of her soul. The moral of the story is what we see in others is what we are in denial about ourselves.
I enjoyed reading "Dopesick." It reminded me of this movie from back in the day called `A Hero Ain't Nothing But a Sandwich.' If you are a 70's baby then you know what I am speaking of. I enjoyed how this story focused more on the behavior of what it's like to be on the dark side; dark side meaning in the streets, doing anything you can do to get that feeling. That feeling of you can soar to all heights, but this is the height of Sweet Dreams. Sweet Dreams can be used as a pain reliever or for recreational purposes. The Sweet Dreams of Sacred will have you going in and out of reality. The story flow was good; however, the only downfall is how characters were brought in the book. If you do not follow the story in the beginning you may get lost in the end.
