Josephine Danforth arrives at Miss Sally Pinkerton's Ladies Boarding House and Matchmaking Service in St. Louis with the hope of finding a job out west. Reassured by a potential suitor's letters, Josephine reluctantly accepts and heads west. I didn’t expect this to be this good and wholesome.
Josephine or Jo is a governess, she wanted to live in the West so she sought a job through the agency. The agency said that there’s not much of a job in the area she wanted but that she ran a matchmaking services.
Eb (MMC), recently obtained responsibility of his nephew, Clem, since his sister died. He wanted a wife to basically be a mother for Clem. Josephine read his letter that he send to the agency and she agreed to partake in it.
This is a novella and a slow burn. There’s no insta-something. I love the dynamics that was built up and the pacing of the story. It felt wholesome how Jo learned to love Clem like her own son and how Eb and Jo fell in love.
This is the definition of cozy read for me.

3.5 ⭐️ This was definitely a very cute read about a woman who signs up to marry a man and move west to help with his nephew after his sister died.
Josephine and Eb were cute together. She makes the best of her new life and he is more reluctant but never grumpy or cruel to her, more just shy or a little gruff.
My complaints were just that it’s a novella, and I think it would’ve actually been enough for a book! I wanted to see way more of the build up of love and trust between them. I also would’ve loved Eb’s POV since he’s not very talkative.
Also when she gets pregnant, he doesn’t react well, then sleeps in the barn for weeks and then she just forgives him? He doesn’t even do anything and they don’t talk about it for months!! He later says he was scared of losing her during childbirth but I wish they cleared it up in a more satisfying way.
But overall, it was a sweet, quick read!

I love the country gentleman the author created for her bride. This love story was quite fulfilling and a short read

It's not often at all that I love a novella! Normally I hate them instantly due to the insta-love and lack of time/pages allowed for the author to really get a fulfilling story across to us.
This one was perfect though. There is an actual storyline that grabs you, the characters were realistic and likable, it had steam involved 😃 and you are actually able to see the relationships develop and people fall in love.
Of course I would have loved for it to have gone on for several more chapters, but as it was, I was satisfied with a sweet story 😍 And I think that that is hard to do with a novella. I can't wait to read the others!
