I saw this book reviewed in the Institute of Engineering and Technology's magazine, E&T (which is a good magazine incidentally). It looked interesting so I ordered it.

It is about a group of British engineers and industrialists who started off their working life at Henry Maudslay's factory in London during the early years of the 19th century. This was a place that attracted fantastically driven and intelligent young men, many of whom went on to do their own great things up north.
