Introduction to Special Education: Teaching in an Age of Opportunity

Rate this book
Introduction to Special Education provides an applied approach to children with disabilities by using specific and well-grounded research and suggestions to focus on how the educational practices impact the lives of children, their families, and their teachers. The Fourth Edition retains the overall organization that was perfected in its previous editions, with a basic overview of the field provided in the early chapters, and then the categories of disability covered in order of incidence. The Fourth Edition introduces a new and unique way of looking at the field of special education in the new millennium, seeking to both examine its history and present the challenges and possible solutions for its future. For anyone interested in special education.

Professors who write textbooks for adults often don't understand how people learn. Luckily this professor uses text features, reflective questions and standards reviews well. The writing is not dry or overly medical or legalistic as it could be. This was very helpful for me to understand many of the decisions administration and special education teachers make concerning bad behavior that I did not understand.
