'Caterpillar' is so tragic, so beautiful. I love Hideshi Hino's style. Kind of cartoonish, a bit of German Expressionism, some body horror. His stories are so much about the fear of abandonment, longing for a space in the world, feeling like an outsider. My heart aches, I laugh, I'm mortified. The range makes for a very engrossing read, like modern folk tales or twisted children's stories.
