Emmalin

Gone.

Everything I ever had is gone. Ripped away, taken before I was ready. So I just hid. Hid in the shadows, hoping to disappear, blending in, fade away. I didn't want to be found, and I sure as hell didn’t want, to be discovered.

But one man did. He saw me. Saw right through me.
He's overbearing, egotistical, and did I mention a total asshole?
When I'm with him, I want to scream. Punch him.
And then have him rip my clothes off.

I gave him one night.
He wants more.
And so do I.
I'm his.
Grayson Mandrake owns me.

Grayson

I take, because I can.
I claim, because I can.
She was mine the moment I saw her, and I will destroy her soul to keep her. Have her. Own her.
I'm ruthless, and relentless.
A total asshole.
And I will do anything for her.
Emmalin Ross is mine.

This is PART ONE of the Incapable series.

Warning: This series has a foul-mouthed male, dirty talk, and strong sexual content. Intended for mature audiences 18+ only.

Holy crap. Loads of messed up scenes and people. Deep pain and deep love.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to say I was not expecting this type of writing and story from an independent author, but I have learned to never judge a book before cracking the cover.
This book is longer than the average book and at first I was getting frustrated with the amount of back and forth situations. However, once I got to the last 3/4 of the story, I understood why the author chose to completely develop the characters as she did. WOW
The author brought us a crazy story loaded with hot men, spine tingling sexy scenes, twisted people, controlling men, strong women, and every situation you could imagine. She added in several twists that you are not expecting and gave the reader an overall great story!
A couple of spots I did get lost as to who was leading in the dual POV so make sure to pay attention to chapter changes.
Smoking hot story and I cannot wait till book two, Unjustly Destroyed, which will be coming up shortly.
3.5 stars
"Three things. Three things that are all I'll ever ask of you. Never lie to me, never say anything you don't mean, and always give me your pleasure. It's the only things I want."
So although I finished this book a week ago, I have been struggling with what to rate this. So here is why I ended up giving this book 3.5 stars...
What I liked:
*Grayson was great. He was a hot alpha male and he definitely found his way onto my book boyfriend list of 2016.
* Emmalin made a great heroine. Although she was submissive, she did fight for what she felt was right and wrong in terms of their relationship.
*Great sex scenes in this book. Super steamy!
*The cliffy at the end was pretty good. Did not see it coming and it made me wonder how it will play out in the next book.
What I didn't like:
*I had a VERY hard time keeping up with who was talking. In one paragraph, there were as many as 5-6 back and forth conversations happening...super confusing.
*I found MANY grammatical errors while reading. Not sure if the book is still in beta or not as of 1/20/16. If it is, please ignore this!
*I found this to be a jumbled mess at times. First the book reads as a typical romance, but then changes into something I didn't feel fit into the book at all.
*Read a lot like a 50 Shades fan fiction book...which is a major no-no for me! It even includes the "you don't play fair" quote multiple times in the book!
Will I read the next book? Probably. I do want to see where the author takes that crazy cliffhanger!
Much luck to Marie Skye in all of her future endeavors! :-)
This book marked my heart. Why? Let’s find out.
First chapter: from the beginning I was impressed. That red heart which started all the chapters was made to put our imagination to work. That shade of red made me think about lipstick, full lips and lust. And Grayson had a great start considering his attitude towards the flight attendant.
I immediately noticed the short chapters. I somehow like shorter chapters because it’s easier to read them this way. Moving on...
Emmalin is such a beautiful name. I've never heard it before. Nice chance of scenery.
The characters: rich hot guy and poor girl who had to go to work in a bridesmaid's dress, because she needed the money. (And the fact that she kept talking about her money situation pissed me off a little).
I never understood how, in books, women have a guy as a best friend. It seems impossible to me. At some point, one of them starts having feelings for the other and then, all those "years" of friendship go away, being replaced by lust and a different kind of love (at least this is what happened to me). And I was right – again – (I found this out at the end of the book and I wanted to laugh diabolically).
I always loved this question "Penny for your thoughts?" And reading it made me feel good. Coming from Grayson... was even better.
Thank God for the scarf! I was so happy when Grayson wanted to return the scarf. I knew that would trigger their relationship even more and also, I was sure he would take her away from that cold, empty apartment she called home.
I love a man who can cook! It's always a pleasure to read about a man who tries to impress a woman by cooking for her. And even better fantasizing about him in an apron.
Grayson had a good sense of humor. I love a guy who can make me laugh. It’s important to know when to say a joke and how to say it.
When Mandrake – I also love this name – said "our bed" was the moment when I told myself how women notice everything. This didn’t escape my attention either. Even though it seemed that he was moving on too fast, he was trying to protect the woman he was falling in love with. So... from my point of view, the fallowing part with "Did this beautiful bastard just ask me to move in with him?" made me laugh out loud, but also made my understand that sometimes time doesn’t matter when it comes to love.
Poor Emmalin. Suffering of diabetes is not something I expected her to go through. I have a friend who has diabetes since she was 11 and I now how hard it is for someone to live with this disease.
How could someone hate snow? I love it! I can’t wait for snow to make itself present in my country! I still have to wait a little, but it’s worth it.
An emoji, actual smiling face in a book was such a funny and welcomed thing to see. Usually when someone wants to put an emoji in a book, it’s like this ":)". Plain and simple. But this time, I actually saw a smiling face, just like this 🙂. Awesome! (I’m just like a little kid who received a present – I know! But it was a sight for sore eyes).
Implulsive Aggressive Behavior was a shock for me. More so, knowing Grayson had it since he was nine. I mean... I never met a person who has this problem, but it feels scary, you know? I would always ask myself if I was in danger. But I’m happy Emmalin knew how to handle it. Or, at least, she tried.
When Emmalin asked Grayson to punish her, I had a déjà vu. Fifty Shades of Grey popped up in my mind. I don’t understand why some women feel the need to be in pain.
I loved the fact that quotes written in Italian were translated immediately in English. Even though I know a little bit of Italian, it was so good to read those replies in English too. A big like for thinking about the readers.
That moment when secrets are revealed is my favorite part of a book. This moment, consumes the characters. It reveals why they act strange, why they feel the need to cry all the time or punch a wall. It also makes me get more attached to the characters.
In conclusion, I found myself fascinated with Grayson and Emmalin’s story. I still have a lot of things to find out about the two of them so, let’s get started with the second book in the series!
My favorite quotes:
"Relationships were too complicated, too much work, and not something I was interested in."
"Although he did have a nice suit, which would probably look amazing on the floor."
"I know, you don’t need a hero, but sometimes, they just show up. "
"Not everyone deserves to hurt just because you were."
"I wasn't capable of love. I wasn't capable of loving anyone. I'd been incapable for as long as I could remember."
P.S. I’m sure that more than 10 persons liked this book.
Life is complicated. Life will throw you to the ground, piss on you, then light you on fire.
I should know.
So, I hide and pray that no one finds me, and eventually, I'll fade into obscurity.
But one man does.
He's overbearing, egotistical, and did I mention cocky?
A real asshole that wouldn't stay away.
We had one night, which only made my body even more treacherous.
He wants more.
And so do I.
Grayson Mandrake owns me, but I won't be bought.
Grayson
Ruthless, relentless, asshole.
That's me.
Always have been, always will.
Until Emmalin grabs my attention. She's complicated, but who doesn't like a challenge? She was mine the moment I saw her, and I want nothing more than to destroy her soul to keep her.
Own her.
It's simple really. Emmalin is mine.
Dual POV, yeah. . . or maybe what? I got me a good story but at times I was confused on who's POV I was getting. I went along for the ride and had a good time. I got me a very strong, independent, capable young woman. That I must say knew who and what she was and was not willing to let anyone take that away from her. She was determined to make her own way in the world and do it on her own terms.
That was all well and good until . . . Grayson. WTF. This was not what her life needed. Or was it?
Grayson sexy hot wealthy man on the hunt. That was my description. He saw. He wanted. He obtained. You what they say. What he wants. He Gets. There may have been challenge. But ultimately, he got what he was seeking.
Demons are behind these pretty faces. When they say everyone has a past. That was so true. Life never deals each person the same hand but the cards can hold a lot of unwanted, undesired, undeserved suits.
Here Maire Skye builds your anticipation slowly in the beginning and as things progress the intensity begins to heighten. There was a full run of suspense as to what, when, how that lead to the suspenseful ending of this first part. You want more. You want to know where things lead.
2 Stars! ★★
This was a cheap imitation of fifty shades of grey, without the BDSM.
Grayson Mandrake. How do I describe this sexaholic? Bossy. Blunt. Throws around explicit language like it’s nothing.
He’s being described as the “perfect” man… but he’s sooo perfect, it’s just unbelievable. He loves to cook because he finds it relaxing. He’s down to f%#k long and hand at any moment. He only cares about the girl’s pleasure. He’s Rich to an ungodly limit.
And he’s willing to give his all; money, time and love to this one girl he saw at a party and instantly decided he had to have her. SHE IS THE ONE!
“Three things. Three things are all I’ll ever ask of you. Never lie to me, never say anything you don’t mean, and always give me your pleasure. It’s the only things I’ll ever want.”
This was cheesy and in a weird way. The sex was hot. The writing was good. But the story… ehh, left me feeling bored.
I bought this book 3 years ago and it’s been sitting on my shelf since then. I’ve been trying to read more paperback books so I picked it up and could not put it down for two days. I loved the story. The characters were so dark and yet so real. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Cliffhanger!!!
This whole story is a mix of constant sex, rough sex and two deeply damaged people evading the truth about themselves, each other and their pasts. It also contains every cliche theme out there. Billionaire, Alpha asshole, BSDM... Overprotective-spoils her-dominates her life trope... you name it, it's in this. If you put This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas, Shades Of Grey and The Crossfire series by Maya Banks together in a blender, you would get this book.
But in this, they basically barely speak to each other. It's like 'hello' then next thing you know they're tearing each other's clothes off. And the hero is so over the top! How can he a run an empire when all he does is worry about the heroine constantly. I swear this guy is going to have a heart attack at the pace he's going! It's kinda funny.
It truly disappoints me when an entire book is based on events of the past that either character reveal to each other. I get so damn frustrated I want to scream "BLOODY FUCKING TELL HER/HIM ALREADY?!!!!"
And with this cliffhanger, I already know the next book will about the heroine not telling the hero what she saw at the very end. I bet money on it.
Holy Alpha male! Grayson is the typical rich playboy who uses woman with no remorse. That is until he meets Emmalin. He just has to have her and is instantly overcome by his need for her. This book was insta lust/love at its best. I will say the book gave me a 50 Shades Vibe. But over all it did keep my attention. I was really drawn in towards the last 30% when we finally start to understand their demons. There were a lot of unexpected twists that I enjoyed but was still left with even more questions.
The book was told in dual POV and at times it was a little hard to follow along. Although I did appreciate seeing the story from both Grayson and Emmalins sides. Also the book ended with a Major cliffhanger.
I will be picking up the next book. Can't wait to see how everything plays out.
I received a copy of this through NetGalley for my honest review.
So there were things about this story that I enjoyed and some things that really got in my way.
The thing that didn't work? The hero. I'm all about the asshole, alpha, domineering man. But all I could think about Grayson was, he's a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen...and I couldn't get that thought out of my brain. Maybe it's all the current headlines, but I cringed at his behavior so many times. It seemed rather brutal and Neanderthal, and it just didn't work for me.
That being said - I liked him too. He was so good to Emmalin. So protective and loving, and he never refused his feelings for her.
And there was something very readable about the storyline itself. It kept me going, wanting to see where this was all leading. And the cliffy...well, I'll be reading book 2 for sure.
Hmmm, I guess I had to try one before the year ended no? Typical drama like in every fantasy book. The guy is rich, filthy rich might I add, he has the perfect family, he has a troubling past...
The lady is poor, or struggling, doesn't think she is all that, nothing much to offer the world, and a rich billionaire comes to swoop her in... and of course she changes his world forever with her strong will sigh! Originality out the window no?
Three stars, because everyone likes a little tantalising, and I am no exception.
Loved it !!
I have seen a ton of reviews for this book that compared it to Fifty Shades . There are some similarities as far as a couple , child abuse , bdsm, controlling alpha male. Still it had its own story that was completely different. The writing was way better as well . I enjoyed the story and I loved Emmilin and Grayson . There are twist and turns in this story that left me dying for the next installment . If you need an ott j/p fix this is a good one that is a style similar to Crossfire and Fifty Shades.
This book features a hot Ahole so if that's not your thing, turn away.
I love an Ahole that is Alpha that is spouting off at the mouth but then backs it up, and I can say that Grayson is a top HotHole. This is an insta love at first sight for him, and he was just so intense and Mine, Mine, Mine to Emmalin. Emmalin has a tragic abusive childhood and you find out about throughout the entire read. There is a ton of back and forth, leaving, staying, leaving, staying with these too, but again this was and is an intensive relationship. They have a very sexual relationship that features BDSM and can get dark at times. There is a lot of twists and turns that will leave you unable to walk away. This book is a bit of a hangover, the story wraps up and then someone new gets thrown in, to keep you hooked and reading the next book. (Which I am)
This is the first book I have read of Marie Skye. It was really good. Watching Grayson and Emmalin meet at an event and going along their journey with them. Two hurt people hiding their past but trying to make a relationship work. Grayson with money trying to take care and protect Emmalin who has no money and is not use to someone taking care of her. Their secrets come out and to see the healing was a beautiful thing. Then We are left hanging. Then you just question everything you just read and needing to know what happened and how can it be?? Can’t wait to read book 2.
Those who says it is kinda story similar to Fifty shades of grey are really wrong.
Incapable is a story on its own. Life struggle, unforgettable past, Deep pain, hidden love,....a wholly exotic story. Emalin and Grayson's life with messed up scenes, too much love, too much secrets, too much fear. But they find there way to be with each other.
If you like dark stories with complex characters... This one's for you.
Emmalin Ross has struggled since moving from Arizona, she's been unable to find full time work, having to work odd jobs to make ends meet, its tough but she's got to do it to survive. On the day we meet her she's getting ready to go to a corporate function.. One she's not sure she should be going to, but it's going to change her life.
Grayson Mandrake took one look at the beautiful woman across the room at his company's function and was hooked. He had to have her. When he finally caught up with her she was not like any of the other women he'd ever known. Emmalin wanted nothing to do with the sexy business man. He was too arrogant, headstrong, demanding... but yet for some unknown reason he made her feel safe, something Emmalin had not felt for a long time.
Grayson and Emmalin begin a courtship of sorts, in two weeks things move quickly and she's had to move in with him, but both their pasts create a divide between them, they're stronger together than they are apart. Grayson is good for her but she fights her feelings and attractions for him, after all she was told every one she loves leaves her... So that means Grayson would leave her too soon... Can she handle that? She pushes him.. Grayson chases her... Will she allow him to love her? And how can she love him in such a short time... Coming back to Grayson is like returning home.
Grayson fights his own demons. Compulsive Jealousy makes him demanding of her, he needs to constantly be reassured by her that she belongs to him. He's never felt that way about any woman before and it scares him. Can he make her understand?
This wasn't a bad read... But I had to skim a lot -there was just too much sex. Yup.. that's a thing. Don't get me wrong I like lots of steam in books, but I felt like it went over the top, I didn't need details every chapter. I understand what the Ms. Skye did or tried to do, showing how they used sex as a coping mechanism, but it irritated me after a few chapters and I ended up skimming the intimate encounters to focus on the story. I want to see what happens next so it's off to the next one.
I am giving this book a 1.5 star rating. This is the story of Emmalin and Grayson. This was the typical normal story of a rich man seeing a girl and claiming her within 30 seconds and becoming very possessive. She barely has her life together, barely has a job, and has had some trauma in her life so she has bad nightmares. He comes in and offers her a job, buys her new things, pays all of her bills, gives her a private chauffeur, and wants her move in with him. They have sex. He owns her...blah, blah, blah. I would have given this plot a 3 star if it had stayed that simple. But the characters are so messed up in this perfect world of theirs that I had to lower the rating.
As I said earlier, Emmalin does not have her life together. She also has diabetes so she cannot afford her medication. Grayson has impulsive aggression behavior. That is another name for him having anger problems and being really possessive. This book is riddled with immaturity. She is being stubborn with him. She keeps running from him when he tells her not to. He keeps chasing after her. They get mad at each other. They have sex. And repeat. They fall in love after like 3 weeks. Nothing in this book was believable. It even got to the point where the author haphazardly threw in some BSDM to get some sensationalism.
There were so many tangents that lead nowhere. And to top it off, the book ended with a cliffhanger. There was no need for that. This could have been a one and done type of book. The only thing I liked about it was the way the author made the character narratives/chapters short so it seemed like you were not reading a lot when you were. I sped through it. It was a quick read. I will read the next one, but I have such low hopes for it. I definitely will not be recommending this book.
I must say this was a hot sexy read. A sexy, rich, dominant male .. a strong willed, smart beautiful woman. Both dancing around each other in a battle of the wills. There is only one winner they say right? In this instance however .. there might be two.
Emmalin is a young woman trying to make it on her own. She is smart and determined. Doesn't like being told what to do, where to go or how to live her life. She has met her match in the devilishly handsome Millionaire Alpha who tests every single one of her boundaries and shows her a world unlike anything she has ever experienced before. They are both damaged and each fighting individual demons. How they deal with life and each other is the beauty of this story.
The story at times was hard for me to follow as I had trouble keeping up with who was speaking, it seemed to jump around a bit. With that being said the core of the story line was a great and I enjoyed reading every single page. The sex scenes were extremely HOT and steamy and the characters well written.
It ends on a major cliffhanger and the author did a FANTASTIC job at keeping us in suspense and leaving us with an OMG moment. I am anxiously awaiting to read book two and can't wait to see where Marie Skye will take us with Emmalin and Grayson.
This book was recommend by a book review blog I follow and so I thought I would give it a shot. It is the first book I have read by this author and found it to be enjoyable. This is a highly steamy romance with plenty of hot scenes so it may not be for everyone, especially if you like your romances on the sweeter side. What I really liked about this book was the characters. Grayson is your typical hot dominate alpha male. At times he was really a jerk and while I recognized that as I read the story there was just something about him. Emmalin, while the submissive in this relationship, is a very strong character and I found that I like her. She encountered trauma in her past but in her relationship with Grayson she fights for an identity and for a life of her own outside their relationship. I like the secondary characters as well and hope there is a story for Chace and Isabel. There was a slight cliffhanger and I am interested to see where the author goes with this story line.
Such a good read, this is written in a dual POV!!!!
I fell in love with the characters, Grayson Mandrake is an egotistical jerk who knows what he wants and stops at nothing to get it. He has demonstrated and major anger issues.
Emmalin Ross is a freelance accountant with a very troubled and heartbreaking past that still haunts her. From the first moment Grayson sees her he knows he has to make her his immediately, she never stood a chance.
I was pulled in from the first page. I'm giving this 4stars due to the fact it had similarities to Fifty Shades and This Man by this I mean certain quotes and just the overall feel of the story. BUT having said that I still very much enjoyed the book, characters were written well and wee intense with a solid plot.
Okay, so to start off I did not like Grayson. He is typical guy being a major douche to a women he just fuckd on a plane. Great another asshole millionaire or billionaire. Whatever! Maybe this is what gets us used to men treating us like shit, because we are always reading about these assholes that treat women like just another pussy to fuck. So when men in our lives treat us like shit we are used to it, we even rationalize it, think its normal.
Not cool.
At the beginning I did like Emmalin but after 1 freaking kiss, she has completely lost focus. I just couldn’t continue.
I can't say I actually like this book. Both the plot line and the characters were dull, so much I had to force myself into finishing it. Grayson is such an overprotective, jealous character and Emmalin allows him to control her life, friends and work. Every time they have a problem or a fight, Greyson -with Emmalin consent- fucks her senseless (sorry for the term) and they return to act as if nothing had happened. This is the kind of story that makes women think that having their lives controlled by their parter is something normal, but in the real world, their relationship would end in domestic abuse.
I will not be reading the following books from this serie.
Alright, a few things first! How do you not fall in love with these people. I held a lot of emotion with each word and description as it is written. Beautifully put together! I am an emotional reader, I can feel what the characters feel, here was absolutely no exception. When they laugh, I do, crying... I live by the phrase no one crys alone, anger, you bet I'm right there following their journey with them. to me that is what a great book should be, not something to read but a journey with some friends. I have made new friends in this book and certainly out of it as well. I can not wait until the next one becomes available! Perfect!
*Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book*
There are some really interesting themes in this book that dwell in the psychological experiences behind some sexual desires and fantasies, however the execution of the writing leaves a lot to be desire.
The characters are very cliché, we have already seen the innocent girl fall for the messed up billionaire a thousand times. The dialogues seem rushed and very repetitive. And the plot twists are not entirely surprising, although interesting enough to keep you reading.
Would I recommend this book to a fellow reader? If they like the erotica genre, yes but otherwise I think this is a pass
“I told you never to walk away from me.” I felt myself nod. I f***ing nodded.
Can you say hot?! Emmalin only has her best friend Tyler until in walks Grayson. He is controlling just like every alpha male. Yet he gives so much back. No matter how hard Emmalin fights to hold him back he still tries harder to get her to let him in. You pick up quick that something happened to her growing up that forced her to guard her heart. But when it all comes out will Grayson still be there? Hands down some of the best sex scenes since Gideon Cross :)
This book was an okay read for me. This was a romance read with a bit of mystery and suspense but I would have liked to see a little bit more from the characters other than sex. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good book with steamy sex scenes but this book seemed to have more sex than story for me. It ends with a major cliffhanger but even with wanting to know what will happen I won't continue this series. It was a bad book, it's just not the book for me.
I have lost count how many times I have re read this book.
Grayson & Emmaline are my absolute favourite couple.
As much as shit this two has gone through the whole series..my god it felt like a roller coaster ride.
I think this is one of the least appreciated book .
It deserves more appreciation.
People always talk about "This man series" &"Crossfire series" but this book is definitely as good as the others if not more.
I love this book! I love the depth of the characters and how well written the entire story is, and of course the steamy story-line. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next book to come out. I'll be re-reading to tide me over until then. Keep them coming!
This book has a lot of character in it. It's nice to read a story about two people who help one another heal the wounds from the past. This book had me going. And it made me very emotional on some part but I really enjoyed it. I'm stoked for the second book which can't come fast enough.
