I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I have read most of Karen Rock her books so far and I was curious when I heard about her new book. Her previous books were all sweet heartwarming books and this one promised to be a bit more steamy and I was looking forward to see how she wrote that. His to Protects turned out to be a enjoyable and definitely steamy read. It was steamier than I expected, with quite some sex scenes in there. As I've gotten to expect from Karen Rock it was well wri

Mark Sampson is a Coast Guard search and rescue pilot who still harbours guilt over the time he had to leave teammate Jeff behind on a mission. Cassie Rowe is Jeff's brother, a rescue nurse, who has joined the Red Cross to experience the life Jeff had, and learn more about his death. The two have a sexual encounter one night, without realising who the other is. When they report to duty, and learn the truth, they try to avoid one another, but sparks keep flying between them.

Before I had a Kindle and read ebooks I used to devour Harlequin Blaze books. I bought as many as my budget would allow. Unfortunately the book stores I used to go to have now closed, but reading His to Protect reminded me of why I've always loved Harlequin Blaze.

His to Protect is the story of U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Mark Sampson and Red Cross Nurse Cassie Rowe. Cassie's brother was a Coast Guard Swimmer. He had loved his job and talked to Cassie all the time about how she needed

Grief changes people especially when grief is mixed with guilt. Survivors guilt, being guilty of not keeping in touch, or just guilt of caring too much or too little. Grief has no timeline or expiration date. Grief changes how you see the world and yourself.

That is what Cassie has learned since her brother died during a Coast Guard rescue mission a year ago. Not knowing the intimate details of what happened to her brother h

Where to start on this!?!? This is my first book by Karen Rock and I have fallen in love with her writing style! I absolutely was pulled in from the first page and had this quick read finished in just a few hours. It was gripping, full of heart and emotion, and what you come to expect in a romance;lots and lots of smoking hot passion and you get the picture.

This is a story of two people who have lost someone. Cassie lost her Coast Guard swimme

Attraction brought them together, anguish and guilt may tear them apart. Cassie has always looked up to her brother. He was the fearless one who's daring ways made for sleepless nights but filled her with pride. Losing her hero has left her lost but determined to live life to the fullest in his honor. Her first risky endeavor lands her in the arms of Mark, a stranger who unbeknownst to her blames himself for her brother's death.

Within the pages of His to Protect, Ms. Rock not only gives a realis

Hot sexy emotional romance with the 2 main characters learning to cope in their own way to someone they have lost. Both the hero and heroine are strong and in my opinion need the other and are perfectly matched. Loved the story line.

This was an okay story but I did get tired of Mark thinking about how he’d let Cassie’s brother die and how he couldn’t have her for that reason, even though they still kept having sex and once Cassie found out what really happened Jeff when he was lost at sea she didn’t hate him anymore. And though she forgave him he couldn’t forgive himself

There was a little bit of suspense when they went out to save the boat and it’s passengers but mostly it was about Mark’s and Cassie’s feelings and inner th

Sexy pilots, rescue swimmers - what more could a girl ask for? I really enjoyed this steamy novel that has Mark and Cassie coping with the death of her brother and finding love in the process. I loved that Cassie found her way and decided to live life for herself and not others - even if it meant losing Mark. Mark had some soul searching to do, but in the end figured out what's really important in life. Another great addition to the Uniformly Hot series!

HIS TO PROTECT was an exciting and brutally emotional read!

Mark and Cassie are both dealing with a lot of emotions surrounding a devastating tragedy that has affected them both in many ways. Watching them both work through their feelings and their grief was heartbreaking.

There was so much going on in this story! Mark is a sexy pilot for the Coast Guard but has been grounded for close to a year because of the death of a teammate Mark feels responsible for. Cassie is a self-preserved nurse who’s

Cassie Rowe has always been the good stay-at-home daughter. She trained as a nurse and has done all the extra courses she can get but it’s not enough. Her brother Jeff was the brave one. He signed up to be a swimmer - the guys who get winched down - from the Coast Guard search and rescue chopper. When the worst happened, and a cable broke, the chopper pilot and Lt Commander had to make a choice between trying to find another cable to haul up their swimmer taking precious fuel they didn’t have, o ...more

To read this story while keeping an eye out for the real-life hurricane causing havoc and misery where ever it touched down made reading this book an unforgettable experience, the images of the tale fierce and vivid in my mind.
I admire so much those people who are willing and able to put themselves in danger to help others, no matter what the cost. The struggle Mark had with the past events that were still echoing in the present time, gave the rescue personnel a very human side, showed the pric

Cassie Rowe is a Red Cross volunteer. Mark Sampson is a man whose job is all about the mission. I found it quite interesting that this book has come out the same time that Hurricane Matthew is starting to hit the East coast. It’s a great way to understand some of what these people go through during times of a natural disaster. It adds realism to the story.

Just like the Blaze imprint implies, this is one hot read – good thing I haven’t put the fan away yet. Some scenes may seem e

Cassie Rowe is taking the biggest risk of her life, and is on her was to the hurricane-ravaged Virgin Islands, as a Red Cross volunteer RN. Why would quiet, Midwest Cassie do this? She is paying tribute to her Coast Guard brother, whom died doing what he loved. But knowing he loved it, didn’t stop her or her over protective parents from blaming his team member for his death. So the last thing she expects when she arrives at the base in Clearwater, is to run into the man she had just spent the ni ...more

I LOVED that the story dealt with the Coast Guard. I have a soft place in my heart for them as they rescued my Dad when he was a teen and without them, there would be no me. ;) I also adore the movie The Guardian with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher where Kevers is a very experienced rescue swimmer and Kutcher has a lot to learn. I cry every time I watch it and it looks like parts of His to Protect will be no different. It is well written and touches upon some difficult issues so get out the ti

This story was so good from beginning to end. I loved the concept of a Coast Guard search and rescue pilot, I never really read a story featuring one before. Mark Sampson is still dealing with the loss of his friend on a mission and is being eaten alive by guilt. Cassie is a nurse who wants to pay homage to her late brother and find out what really happened. She wanted to hate Mark, but the more she knew him, the more she knew that he could not have done things differently and should move on wit

Yes, I did want to read this book, because of the cover. Who wouldn't want to read this book, because the dude is hot. He's also a pretty decent guy in the story. Basically, we have Mark and Cassie. Mark is helicopter pilot for US Coast Guard. Yum! Then you have smokin' hot Cassie who is a nurse, and she came out to help with hurricane relief in the Virgin Island. Girl meets boy and they hit off, but there's a hitch...he was the pilot when her brother died while serving

4 1/2 STARS!

In Karen Rock’s latest, she takes us on a heart wrenching journey into the mind of a man who left a brother in arms behind, into the mind of a loved one receiving the news back home and having to pick up the pieces of a so-called life again, and into the hearts of all who were touched by a tragedy. Sad, eye opening and sexy all rolled into one! Really enjoyed the characters and look forwarding to reading more of Karen’s coast guard heroes!

Military romances are my very favorite genres and I was really looking forward to reading His To Protect. this book did not disappoint in the least. My heart broke for Cassie and the loss of her brother. I can understand her desire to want to recreate what he was so passionate about so she could feel closer to him again. I cannot even imagine the horror that Mark went through, having to decide between who lived and who did not. Survivors guilt is a very powerful thing and can completely destroy ...more

HIS TO PROTECT by Karen Rock is a contemporary romance that is filled with emotion. Cassie and Mark are both dealing with grief and pain. I really liked Cassie - watching her grow and believe in herself throughout the story was uplifting. I liked Mark but felt he held back a bit too much. I really would have liked to have seen a bit more inside his head and heart throughout. Together, though, they are hot! Ms. Rock certainly can write those steamy scenes well! A steamy read that has moments that will pull at your heartstrings. Both Cassie and Mark are suffering the loss of Jeff and dealing with it in different ways. Cassie does a lot of growing and discovers herself while Mark has to come to a hard realization.

Their relationship is rocky. Both of them have their own issues to deal with and they're not exactly on the same page in the beginning (I wanted to give them both a good shake at times). However, their attraction is undeniable. Their first meeti

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, grief, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Cassie and Mark’s story. Mark is struggling with a lot of guilt over a decision that cost him his teammate. What he needs is a release for one night. Cassie is missing her brother and one night of distraction is just what she needs. The chemistry between these two is off the charts hot. But that happens when secrets are revealed and they are both missing and grieving the same person. Wil
Good story of love, loss, and healing. Cassie is a nurse who has spent most of her life in her hometown, playing it safe with her life. Her adored big brother was the adventurous one who became a Coast Guard rescue swimmer. A year earlier, Jeff lost his life during a mission, and Cassie blames the pilot. Determined to honor her brother's memory by challenging herself, Cassie joined a Red Cross hurricane relief mission. Faced with intense nerves the night before, she hooked up with a sexy strange ...more

This was a nice, quick read that I enjoyed in a few hours of downtime. It was fast paced, fun and left the reader feeling satisfied with the ending. I will be adding her other books to my TBR list!
(Listened to this on audio in a Harlequin Blaze 2-in-1 along with Tiffany Reisz's "Her Halloween Treat.") It was ...okay? Tedious? The story was okay but the writing was a bit clunky for my taste, definitely a lower-level category romance sort of thing, I think. If you like that sort of thing, you'll probably like this... I had to keep quitting and coming back to it. 2.5 stars I guess. Very middling for me.

His to Protect is a hot, fast-paced, and gripping contemporary romance written by author Karen Rock. Initially, it was the cover posted on twitter that drew me in and made me purchase this book, as I’m a sucker for a tall, dark, and handsome military man.
