This title is one of the “Animal Safari” series. It covers the activities of toucans in their natural habitats and their interactions with other animals of the rain forest. Each spread includes a page of brief text coupled with a large color photograph of hawks in action. The font size and format are aimed at early readers; glossary words are bolded on the pages. Back matter includes a glossary, bibliography, publisher’s website and index. This series would fill the need for nonfiction science titles for early readers. It is also suited to ELL and special populations. Order if needed.

This Blastoff! Readers Level 1 is a fact-filled, easy to read, text feature rich, non-fiction book. At-promise readers will feel satisfaction in being able to read this book from cover-to-cover while learning unique attributes of the toucan. The information is accompanied by bright, sharp, detailed photography that is directly related to the text on the page, aiding the reader with unfamiliar words or sentence structure.
