WELL..... that was....... !!! description

So here I am, a week after I read If I Fix You. And I'm still thinking about it. This story was great, in so many aspects. When I read the synopsis, I was intrigued and it’s a debut novel. Which I love even more.
Well, let just say I wasn't expecting to feel so affected by this story.
The Jill and her father’s relationship was outstanding and heart crushing. I felt so deeply for the father. The things he did to keep everything afloat and his daughter happy. Was beau

Some books I simply love!
Emotional, intriguing, romantic, tender, with a dose of sarcasm.. it had everything I wanted and more. Full review (hopefully) soon.

Final rating 4.5 stars. I loved the fact that the synopsis makes you think this might be a cliché story, but the pages inside tell a different one.

I don't know how I missed this book when it was first published but I discovered it a few days ago and picked it up on a whim. I started reading it and literally couldn't stop. I absolutely loved every second I spent reading this book. It is everything I love about contemporary YA fiction and so much more. Perfection. Amazing. If you enjoy complicated, emotionally-involved, contemporary romance then you need to read this book.

If I Fix You is beautifully complex and layered. I loved the character

I'm in love and I want more. Standalone or not. Abigail created such a wonderful story and I honestly cannot wait to see what she does next! Full review at Gabriella M Reads.

Occasionally teetering on the edge of melodrama, and more than once making me skim parts of long-winded dialogues, it managed to portray glimpses of real, and raw emotions.

Wow. This wasn't AT ALL what I expected. You know, with this book you'll read the blurb and you'll think you know what you'll get but trust me, what you're thinking is WRONG. This was so unbelievably real. And surprising and heartbreaking and oh my God I cannot believe how great this book was!! Please, if you're considering reading this, don't read too many reviews especially spoilery ones. Just go into it blind and let the story surprise you. Loved loved loved this!!

Abigail is my CP so I was lucky to get an early read. I love this story so much and can't wait for everyone to get their hands on it.

the writing just absolutely ruined this for me

I can't tell if this book would've been a better book if it had had better writing, but as it stands, it was not a particularly good book. There's no way of getting around it: the writing was melodramatic as hell. I don't really have any quotes to show you what I mean by "melodramatic" (frankly I didn't care enough about this book to highlight any for this review), so you'll have to take my word for it. It was a really trite, tired, recycled kind of

Wow so when I started reading this book I wasn't ready for the emotional roller coaster I was about to be apart of. I have to say I really enjoyed it. I did get a bit emotional at times and even found myself tearing up at times because there were scenes that were very intense.

So the story is about a girl, Jill, whose Mom ended up walking out on her and her Dad. This took a huge toll on her to the point where she was drifting from her two closest friends. Then she catches her neighbors fighting

A well drawn love triangle is a complicated thing to pull off. This book has one of the most emotionally complicated (and well crafted) love triangles that I've ever encountered which made it near impossible to put down. I grew to quickly care about teenaged, auto-mechanic-whiz Jill and her compelling love interests - intense, closed-off neighbor Daniel and long-time friend/crush Sean, all three characters caught up in the devastating fallout caused by both Jill's and Daniel's seriously troubled ...more

Beautifully written, compelling and complex. This debut YA gripped me from the very beginning, and then propelled me toward the ending as Johnson revealed new dimensions to her characters as pieces of their stories are uncovered. What starts out as a fairly straightforward story about a girl dealing with heartbreak--both relationship and family--quickly escalates into a deeply layered novel about identity, love, and letting go.

IF I FIX YOU is wonderfully nuanced and atmospheric. The dialogue is

If I Fix You totally took me by surprise (both with how much I ended up liking it and in the direction the story took). It felt messy and real and I couldn't put it down. Really excited for Abigail Johnson's sophomore novel The First To Know which is out November of this year.

4.5 / 5 stars

Wow. Just wow. I originally intended on giving this book 3.5 stars, leaning on the 3-star side. But after thinking about it, I’m not sure why I wasn’t going to give it a higher rating except for the fact that I’m trying to be stingy/strict with my ratings. But I can find no glaring fault that should hold this book from getting the 4 stars. This was a freaking good book.

Okay, first things first. I hate this kind of books, the kind that trick you, that you can't tell how bad they are until it's too late and you've already wasted time on them, precious time that could have been given to a much more deserving book.

The MC, Jil is works as a mechanic in her dad's shop, that sounded very interesting and different from the norm of YA. I hoped for a passionate girl, feisty and not the usual cheery, cheesy type. To be honest, Jil was not like that, but she wa

This is my 2nd Johnson book, and it was another hit.

I loved all the messiness and the emotions she elicited from me. Just when I thought Jill's mother couldn't get any worse, she dropped a truth bomb on her, which I think was meant to annihilate Jill's world. The good news - Jill wasn't having it.

Things I loved:
• The relationship between Jill and her dad. It was really special.

• The friendship between Jill and Claire. Claire may have been little Mary optimism, but she support

On so many levels I liked this book. Mostly, it was refreshing to have the narrator be a 16-year-old auto mechanic who trades quips with her dad and her dream car is a 1967 Triumph Spitfire Mark III.

For a girl who fixes cars, it has to be hard for her to accept her mother walking out, falling out of love with her best guy friend, and realizing all is not well at the house next door where her cute neighbor lives.

Through it all, there’s an undercurrent of the solid relationship between father and

OMG!! Turning the last page page of this read I knew that I was going to have a book hang over. Two days later and I am still struggling with what I will be picking up next, because I worry that it will suffer in the wake of this read. This book leaves no real place for me to start and end, but there is undoubtedly words twisting and pushing to come out. If You Fix Me is a heart ripping, stunningly beautiful read bound to call to many different readers.

If I've said it before, I'm going to say it again.... I don't like love triangles.

BUT, love triangles that aren't really a love triangle, those that serve a purpose that when you finish a book, you look back and say to yourself, "Ya know, I don't think there EVER was a love triangle," those are the stories I love best!

This is one of those stories...

Before I begin, can I just say that I love that the main character's name is "Jill"?!  What a completely normal, everyday name!!  I have total l

I went into this book with really no expectations. I had never heard of this one but I had an ARC from when I went to ALA this summer, so I decided to give it a try and ended up not being able to put it down.

When Jill's mom walks out on their family claiming to be suffocated by them, Jill and her father are left broken. Jill knows why her mom really left and knows that she could never tell her father, no matter how much it's killing her. Spending her summer working at her dad's garage doing wha

I just loved this debut by the talented Abigail Johnson -- If I Fix You is a book about loss and grief over a family that's broken and the girl at the center of it all. When Jill's mother leaves without so much as a note -- OK, it's a Post-It note, does THAT really count? -- it's up to Jill to keep her little family together, which consists of her and her loving father. She does this by focusing on working together with him in their automotive shop, which is her happy place. I was so impressed t ...more

Ah, If I Fix You. You are such an amazing book, and you simultaneously broke and mended my heart. If I Fix You is one of the most beautifully-written books I've read, and to this day I still feel the emotions I felt when I first read it. Honestly, an amazing and emotional book. I loved Jill so much, and I wanted to give her such a big hug. The addition of Daniel was a great contrast to Sean. Also loved Clare. Jill's mom was so selfish and I hated her. I am glad the ending was resolved with a HEA :-)

The writing was perfect; I felt Jill's anguish and pain, her confusion of what to feel. I am so glad she is in a better place from the start of the book. I know it's a standalone, but I would to see what els

Abigail was born in Pennsylvania. When she was twelve, her family traded in snow storms for year round summers, and moved to Arizona. Abigail chronicled the entire cross-country road trip (in a purple spiral bound notebook that she still has) and has been writing ever since. She became a tetraplegic after breaking her neck in a car accident when she was seventeen, but hasn’t let that stop her from ...more

“Falling was such an elastic word. It was basically horrible. People got hurt and died, falling. There was force and pain and fear, if the height was great enough. Even sometimes when it wasn’t. The terror of not finding something solid underfoot was just as real for half a second as it was for twenty. Yet fall was the word most often coupled with love, falling in and falling out of. How was that even possible? They couldn’t be the same. One fall ushered in delirious, stupid happiness; the other fall expelled those euphoric emotions with blood and tears and scars. Bliss and agony. Fall and fall. It wasn’t the same. There should be a better word.” 2 likes
