About the author

Betty Baxter has spent a lifetime breeding, exhibiting, and judging mastiffs, and is probably the leading authority on the breed in the UK. She has produced a string of champions from her Farnaby kennels including the two well known bitches, Ch. Artifax Arabella of Franby and Ch. Farnby Fraze and Fable, Mastiff Bitch of the Year, 1990. Mention must also be made of Ch. Parcwood W. Bear Esq. of Lesdon, owned and campaigned by Betty's husband Denis. This dog was an outstanding sire, who features in the pedigree of many champions, both in the UK and abroad. Betty has exported mastiffs to the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and throughout Europe, and many have become champions in their adopted countries. She is an international Championship show judge, and she has traveled the world on judging appointments. She has judged in the United States on six occasions, including officiating at the first ever Mastiff Club of America Specialty, held in 1983. Betty is qualified to judge the Working Group, and in 1992 she judged Mastiffs at Crufts. ~ from the dust jacket of The Complete Mastiff
