I, Joey Michaels, am the Snowball Fight Professional. Basically this means that customers pay me to shoot snowballs at other people. I'll use the profits to buy Grandma a gift so impressive that she'll give me a puppy for Christmas. Unless, of course, my cousin Winston has anything to do with it ... Earning the puppy wouldn't be so hard if I didn't have the following problems: 1) Winston stealing my employee 2) Winston getting me in trouble every time I do something wrong 3) Winston blaming me for things I don't even do If I don't get the puppy ... ugh, Winston will get him. And Christmas should be all about what I want, right? The Snowball Fight Professional is Book 2 in the Fun4Hire Series.

Joey Michaels has a mission--be the best snowball fighter in the world, win a puppy, and beat his mean cousin Winston at his own game. The results are many episodes showcasing Joey's penchant for causing trouble. But through it all, he learns lessons of thankfulness, kindness, and loyalty (and maybe a little of forgiveness)
What I liked--Joey has a strong personality. It is very easy to see a twelve-year-old boy getting into the trouble he gets into and learning the lessons he learns. I also enjoyed the escapades he goes on--some are downright funny!
What I didn't like so much--the lessons Joey learns could be developed a little deeper. For instance, when Joey keeps thinking he needs to behave better, the reader can see that he's really longing for his daddy's approval and doesn't feel like he can ever be good enough to really earn it. There are huge openings for a discussion of grace that would be wonderful to see (maybe in the sequel? ;)
All in all, this is a fun read for snuggling up under blankets with the kids.
Mix seventh grader Joey, his loyal opposition little sister Christine, their health-conscious mom, wise but stern dad in a car on a treacherously snowy road. Then add a cookie-making and dog-breeding grandma, a word-mixing grandpa, and one devious cousin Winston and lots of snow. Now add an awesome snowball launcher, competition for a puppy, snowmobiles, a living Nativity play, Isabelle, and Micah. Stir gently until the characters gain understanding and growth. Then frost with a neat surprise ending. Enjoy and share with middle school friends. Angela Ruth Strong has truly captured the essence of a pre-teen who loves God and has good intentions, but is hindered by impetuous actions. I like this story’s first person narrative, including what he says and then thinks.
This is a fun, easy, well-written story that everyone should read! Angela Ruth Strong portrays teenage (& preteen) boys so well, and I fell in love with Joey! This story is a good reminder to unselfishly find what we have to give to the needier among us (even if it's only understanding & forgiveness like Joey does with his cousin Winston), instead of focusing on our own wants. My favorite quote was: "Answered prayer was awesome, but having God answer a prayer I forgot to pray was even better! He was looking out for me, even when I haven't been good. Not even Santa Claus did that!" And as an added bonus, this book will teach you a little about the sport Yukigassen. It will also make you hungry to read further adventures of Joey.
