The Healing Edge #2
All the Wounds in Shadow
2017 IAN Book of the Year Awards for Paranormal/Supernatural Fiction Finalist
For fans of Karen Robards and Shiloh Walker, Anise Eden brings us the mesmerizing sequel to her paranormal romantic suspense novel "All the Broken Places."
Cate's enemies aren't just surrounding her―they're inside her head.
Therapist Cate Duncan has just accepted a job with the MacGregor Group, a unique collective of alternative healers. She's excited by the prospect of honing her empathic healing techniques among others like herself -- aura readers, telepaths, crystal healers, and more. The fact that Cate just started dating Ben, her magnetic new boss, is an added bonus.
Before Cate can settle into her new routine, the poisoning of a prominent neuroscientist draws the entire MacGregor Group into both a federal investigation and an even more insidious threat. Protected by Ben's former Marine Corps unit, Cate and her colleagues must use their alternative healing methods to solve the crime as their patient clings to life.
The responsibility of discovering crucial information falls to Cate and her parapsychological powers. But for Cate, unraveling the mystery means reopening wounds that had just begun to heal -- and in the environment of the Marine Corps unit, differences between Cate and Ben become clearer, straining their budding romance. When a new crisis looms, Cate must trust in her colleagues' gifts and the strength of Ben's love, finding the courage to confront her deepest and most terrifying demons -- or her own life will be at risk.

To the core!

Cate Duncan has joined as a trainee at the MacGregor Group. A mysterious project has come in front of this team and Ben acts as a leader to them, calling Cate for her paranormal abilities to solve the problems. She decides to help them. The team must act carefully. A mere mistake can lead to incorrigible grounds.
The character development since the first novel has been on a tremendous track. Whenever I dive into a series, it always seems a pleasure to meet the familiar characters in the next installments. They seem as if they are my lost friends and I can't help getting involved with them ever before.
As Cate and Ben's journey inches forward, the reader expects to see some romance developing strongly between them. Ben's caring and protective nature towards Cate feels passionate and captivating.
It was a delightful experience to continue with this series. Couldn't have asked for more. Anise Eden has sketched very intriguing characters and a fantastic storyline. I really enjoyed how the author has fabricated a fantasy tale that feels so awesome.
For the readers of paranormal, suspense and romance, The Healing Edge series is a perfect destination!

The MacGregor group is kicking it up a notch, and Cate is going along for the ride. Hell week has been completed, and it didn't go smoothly, and her internship with the group won't be as smooth either. After all, Cate is pure trouble.
The team has been called in on a top secret mission, for one client, and time is quickly running out. Cate is Plan B, but she's not sure if she will be able to help or just be in everyone's way. As they descend further into the FBI's subbasement under a research facility, Cate wonders just who are they trying to help, and how much danger are they all in by helping?
I have enjoyed both books of Cate Duncan, empath. I was surprised since it wasn't the typical paranormal/romance I had read up until now and I kinda liked that to be completely honest. I did find that the romantic aspect of the series really took hold more so in this book than in the first one. I'd be interested in reading more of the series should it feel it needs to be developed more. Although I felt it was nicely wrapped up.

I had the pleasure of reading an early copy of Anise Eden's All the Wounds in Shadow and enjoyed this second installment of The Healing Edge series. In book one, the author draws the reader into the story of Cate Duncan, a therapist with issues of her own. Her world changes forever when she learns she is an empath and is recruited to work for the MacGregor Group, an organization filled with psychically-gifted individuals. In book 2, Cate has begun her training. We also see her in the throes of a new romance with Ben MacGregor, a former Marine and leader of their ensemble. The group is called into action when an acclaimed doctor is poisoned and on the brink of death. Cate and her friends must employ their unique talents to delve inside the doctor's mind and discover who attacked him. However, the case brings to light old wounds for Cate and presents new struggles. Can she come to terms with her feelings for Ben? Can she help a man who can only communicate telepathically? And will her efforts endanger her as well? Ms. Eden takes us on a remarkable journey, one laced with intrigue, romance and hope. I cannot wait for the next book.

Loved this book. Getting back into Cate and Ben's world was like meeting up with old friends. This was the perfect book two in an amazing series that I just can't seem to get enough of!

All the Wounds in Shadow starts off almost exactly where the first book leaves us. Cate Duncan has accepted her unusual therapy techniques as paranormal and has joined the MacGregor Group, although she is still in training status. The MacGregor Group has been called in to help the government solve a mysterious threat by using their unique paranormal talents, and Ben gives Cate the option of joining the team, thinking they may need her abilities. This mystery puts Ben back together with his old military team, and we get to see a little more details to his character than we had in the previous book, which is a good thing, as he was the straight man to the groups slight craziness in the first book.
Ben lacks any paranormal talent, but provides the leadership needed to help the team solve this crime. The relationship between Cate and Ben is more deeply explored, although because of her "in training" status, she is not allowed to explore things sexually with him...or eat red meat. I thought that was funny, but I'm sure there is a mystical reason for the sexually pure and vegetarian status to be tied together. The lack of sex, does provide some tension between the two characters that I thought had been missing from the first book, and surprisingly allowed their two characters to grow as a couple. As they solved the mystery, their relationship became a catalyst to Cate's paranormal growth, and tying the two things together strengthened the storyline.
One of the things I enjoyed so much from the first book was getting to know the other members of the team at the MacGregor Group. In this second novel, they were not the focus, and I missed that interaction, although when they were required to work as a team, the author had done a great job in the first book of developing their characters, so I didn't need a recap of their abilities or quirky personalities, allowing me to immerse myself in that storyline completely.
For those of you that are looking for a different kind of paranormal romantic suspense, this would be a good series for you to try. Ms. Eden has a more holistic approach to the genre which I enjoy, and I think you might as well. I received a copy of this book from the publisher Diversion Books, through NetGalley, for my honest review.

. * I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I am so glad I continued with book 2 of this story. Cate is still in her training program for paranormals but has officially joined the team organized to help other paranormals in need. The story seamlessly picked up from book 1 with the same friends and cohorts as she was thrown into a tragic case in just her second week of training.
I found myself engaged from page 1, gaining more interesting descriptions on their skill sets and how they are put to use. Confined to a high security government installation, the team must try to get critical information from a comatose scientist regarding his attempted murder. Wow, if this were only available in real life! Although Cate was Plan B and was initially just along for the ride, she finds herself front and center in the solution to solve this mystery. Still being a little headstrong and used to making her own decisions she puts herself in a couple dangerous situations that require her rescue much to the chagrin of her team and the Marines bent on keeping her safe (or corralled.....same thing right?).
Her now official "relationship" with her boss Ben (Gee...that was quick!) has him pulling his hair to try and keep her safe. So a little romance is included her but nothing too spicy since one rule of the training program is no intimate sexual contact! It interferes with the psyche don't you know (well, duh).
An inviting cast of characters and nice writing style makes me hope to see more of Cate's journey!

Thank you to the author and to Diversion Publishing for a copy of the book for an honest review.
I have enjoyed both books of Cate Duncan, empath. I was surprised since it wasn't the typical paranormal/romance I had read up until now and I kinda liked that to be completely honest. I did find that the romantic aspect of the series really took hold more so in this book than in the first one.
Cate has survived Hell week with the MacGregor's group of paranormal training, well, almost survived. She had quite a few scares during the week, a clients crazy ex boyfriend tried to kill her and he almost killed herself trying to help patients when she should have been focusing on herself. Cate is after all, still human, and learning.
With her internship starting she's excited to really be more integral to the group as a member and not as a patient. However, before she's even gotten to the church things are already up in the air. The FBI has called them in, to help with an ailing patient that is top priority and top secret to boot.
The main research doctor seems sketchy but polite, the FBI and assorted military guys seem friendly enough, everyone's still on edge not sure what to expect, least of all from Cate.
I'd be interested in reading more of the series should it feel it needs to be developed more. Although I felt it was nicely wrapped up.

Cate has decided that she will go to work for the MacGregor Group, a group of alternative healers that she is beginning to call friends. She has started her two weeks of interning to finish off her training and she is excited to learn more about her empathic healing techniques and the gifts the others have. Before Cate can really get started on her internship she agrees to join the group on a secret mission with Ben’s former Marine Corps unit. She is hoping that she will learn more about the man she is falling in love with as well as have a chance to put some of her talents to use.
The protective nature of Ben is so charming and even though Cate has some fragile features her strength comes out in abundance. A really enjoyable look into the different paranormal gifts and healing techniques that may exist. The passion between Ben and Cate is sizzling while the other relationships in the group are intriguing too. I’m not sure if more books are coming in this series but I sure hope so!

So, I have to admit. I started reading All the Wounds in Shadow by Anise Eden without realizing that this was the second book in a series. And I know, trust me – totally my fault. But once I started reading, I found myself interested in the book and the characters. I was pretty happy with the fact that I wasn't completely lost with what was going on, and I have to say that I appreciate that.
I chose this book because I realized that it was a Paranormal read, and if you know me, you know that I'm a paranormal junkie. Always have been and always will be!
I found it quite interesting that the McGregor Group is a Paranormal organization that works directly with the government, and more so the FBI. I loved knowing that some of the individuals that worked for the McGregor Group had some kind of military experience / background.
Let's just say that it is needed with the amount of trouble that our Cate Duncan finds herself in. She is what is known as an empath, but because she's human – she is still learning the ropes.
Fortunately for her, she has Ben who is extremely supportive and absolutely adores and loves her. I loved how patient he was with her. And even though there is a Romance aspect to this novel, it doesn't overpower everything else that is going on. Which I appreciate.
I loved being able to get lost in the world that Anise created for us, her readers. I appreciate what she did and what she offered, well developed characters. Let's just say that I'll be going backwards and reading the first book in this series, because even though I was able to follow along perfectly fine, I still need to know exactly what happened. So, yes – I would definitely suggest that you read this series in order.
This book was a 4 Star read for me!

All the Wounds in Shadow: The Healing Edge – Book Two by Anise Eden is the second book in her The Healing Edge series. I highly recommend reading the first book before this one as it will help you get some background information on characters. This story is the continuation of Cate and Ben's story. Once again, this author has created these characters true to life and connectable. They will pull you in to their paranormal romance from the first word of their story. They will take you on twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Their characters development throughout this story just keeps growing until the end. It was enjoyable seeing other characters from the first book, I love when the author does this. It becomes like one big story and the characters become your friends.
In this story Cate's abilities are called upon to help solve the mystery. But Cate's abilities are not the only ones called upon. Ben on the other hand has no paranormal abilities but he is a leader. I was great getting to see a little more about him in this book. Together they are strong characters. He is caring and protective and she is passionate. Together they just complement each other and you will fall in love with them all over again. They will even have you laughing at times as well as feeling compassion for them. This is not your typical paranormal romance but I highly recommend this story as it will keep you engaged until the last page. This is a great second book to Cate and Ben's story, you will have to read it to find out what happens to them!

All the Wounds in Shadow is the second book in The Healing Edge Series by Anise Eden. It is a superb paranormal/ urban fantasy- with drama, action, a little mystery and some romance. After reading the first book, I had high hopes for this one- Ms. Eden didn’t let me down, as this story is even better than the first.
This book starts off pretty much where the first one finished. Cate Duncan has come to terms with her paranormal abilities, taken on a position (and training) with the MacGregor Group, and has a blossoming romance with the leader of the MacGregor Group, Ben MacGregor.
When a well-known scientist is poisoned, the MacGregor Group are called in to help investigate and unravel the mystery. But Cate seems to be a magnet for trouble and danger. Ben has his hands full trying to make sure she is protected and safe. Their blossoming relationship is tested, with both of them having adjustments to make. The slow-burning romance, coupled with some fantastic simmering tension made this an even better read than the first book. Add in a team of Marines, a lot of intrigue, superb characterization, and a wonderful and original storyline- and I was devouring every page.
I loved getting to know Ben and Cate a little better, exploring their relationship along with them. I love how patient, kind and caring Ben was when it came to dealing with Cate and her head-strong and defiant ways. I enjoyed seeing them develop as the story progressed.
This book has a fast pace, a smooth flow and is very easy to read. I read it in one session.
I am looking forward to continuing this wonderful storyline in the next book!
Thank you, Ms. Eden!

Once again, Anise Eden has created a unique and great story. I would recommend reading the first book of this series to get an understanding of the characters and the world they are in. While it is not fantasy world, most of the characters have fantastical gifts which the first book explains excellently.
This is a great follow on to the first book and gives the reader a chance to see what the Macgregor group are all about. Some of the characters that I got to know in the first book take a bit of a back seat in this one so I did miss them a little but the development of the main characters and introduction of some new ones was brilliant. They brought more depth to the story and a lot more intrigue and mystery.
It was great to see the group working together towards a common goal and how their special skills are used and needed.
The romance between the two main characters continues to develop nicely and is still very real and not carried away or far fetched. I feel it has stayed very true to the characters and their circumstances.
The writing style, descriptive and narrative are on point and the quality of them is maintained in this second book. The author is good at creating an atmosphere along with the description of the surroundings which helped with this story at it is an unusual location and situation.
I think there is much more to learn and come from this story and I am looking forward to reading the next one. This is making out to be a very compelling series.

A stunning follow on from book one in The Healing Edge series, All the Wounds in Shadow sees Cate, Ben and the rest of the MacGregor Group embark on yet another adventure. She is called upon to use her special skill set to solve the mystery surrounding the poisoning of a leading scientist.
Cate gets herself into trouble without much effort, with disaster waiting for her around every corner. She is kept on a tight leash, during the investigation, but in true Cate fashion, she is constanly finding ways to infuriate her subordinates and test the limits of their patience. Her and Ben's new relationship is a test for them both, as they don't really have the time to get to know one another and she is relentless in her defiance. She does not realise the full impact her gift has on her or others. Ben is as patient as he can be, and awfully gentle and tries his best to keep her as informed as he can, but also protect her.
All the Wounds in Shadow is an energetic and highly dramatic saga full of mystery, intensity and action. Always, there is a new problem to face and a new skill to learn. What it isn't, is boring. A very fast paced mystery romance with just enough intrigue to leave you hanging off every word. A gripping series that I have fallen for, instantly. Anise Eden is a powerful and crafty author who keeps readers on the edge of their seats and thoroughly engaged with each character. Sizzling and addictive. 5 stars

All the Wounds In Shadow grabbed me from the very first moment I opened the page. The second book picked up right where the first left off, but if you haven’t read the first book, you will probably be a bit lost. That’s not to say that you can’t get through the book, but there will be a good amount of difficulty. It was with great pleasure that I continued to read about Cate and her struggles, how different scenarios challenged her and everything she knew. More than anything, I think I like this book series because it makes you challenge what has been traditionally accepted in the fields of medicine, and of parapsychology. This book delves more into the relationship of the Macgregor Group as a w hole, making each of the characters endearing to the reader in their own way. I think I will personally hear Kai’s stiletto boots in my sleep. She focuses more on not necessarily tackling mental health issues as addressing where parapsychology and the mystical arts can potentially be used in real settings, and how these things that so many debunk as fraud could actually be right beneath one’s nose. I also enjoy how the author continues the story, which is extremely well written, while all the while making the reader crave to read just one more word about Cate and Ben’s relationship, or wait with bated breath for the next parapsychological experience to happen. This author truly has a gift for words. I cannot wait to read more from her.

Wow! What an amazing read this is. If I could give All the Wounds in Shadow more than five stars, I definitely would!
I absolutely relate to the main character, Cate in this book. It is uncanny how like me she is even up to the thoughts of suicide that have plagued her past. (I’ve embraced my inner bitch since then and decided to stick around and be a pain to others. Much more fun!) Cate is so completely relatable. Ms. Eden has truly got a grip on her character and the motivations that drive her. I love this book because it has a terrific plot, and terrific character descriptions. Her characters are real, warm and are truly coming together to form a cohesive, believable family.
Ms. Eden has gone out of her way to make sure that all the terror of being helpless has been conveyed through her descriptions. Ms. Eden has done a great job of describing these episodes. The abject terror of being completely dependent on someone else for instance, a doctor, who you don’t know well. Fortunately for Cate, she is surrounded by good friends who will fight for her.
This is an amazing book and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good, high tension, who done it with paranormal overtones. I can hardly wait for the next book!! Bravo Ms Eden and thank you for All the Wounds in Shadow! Terrific read!!

All the Wounds in Shadow: The Healing Edge - Book Two
By: Anise Eden
5 out of 5 stars
The story All the Wounds in Shadow: The Healing Edge - Book Two by Anise Eden is a paranormal/romantic suspense book. The second book in the Healing Edge series starts off with a bang when Cate, Ben and the others in the MacGregor Group find themselves part of an investigation that will have them using their unique abilities. What happens had me on the edge of my seat and quickly turning pages to find out how it all is resolved. This is also a story that has Ben and Cate’s new relationship being tested. I simply adored the first book in the series and the second one is just as amazing. Ben and Cate are my favorite characters and can’t read enough about them. Their developing relationship is to me one of the best things about this book. I also liked reading about the others that are part of the MacGregor Group and how they interact. Each one of them has their own unique ability and when called upon they are there to assist one another. I really enjoy the attention to detail that the author uses in her story especially when describing when Cate or the others use their abilities. This is an amazing story that I got lost in. It is part of a series so I can’t wait to read the next book.

All the Wounds in Shadow by Anise Eden is the second book in her Healing Edge series. I do not think you should read it as a standalone as we are picking up where we left off in the first book – Cate has accepted a position with the MacGregor group and it feels like we are back with old friends.
Cate has started her internship under Ben’s leadership of the team. They have decided to keep their relationship just for themselves for now and I love the slow burn we see throughout the book – as Cate is still ‘in training’ then she is not allowed to have sex (and you can imagine what kind of tension it brings along considering how Cate deals with the emotional overload) and … eat red meat (I wonder why …). I loved how the writer allowed their relationship to grow while they are solving a mystery with their team (and Ben’s old Marine buddies) …
Anise has written a solid sequel that does not leave you disappointed, especially if you like a bit different type of paranormal reading! I am curious to see what she comes up with next (and I hope we will get more of the rest of the team – the paranormal one and the marine-y one!)

All the Wound in Shadows is the second book in the Healing Edge Series. I'm really enjoying this series a lot. I love the chemistry between Ben and Cate which gets stepped up a few notches in this book, plus we learn more about Ben and Pete and their time in the Marines and their past. I think my favorite of the group is Kai and I wish there had been more of him in the spotlight.
We get caught up with Cate who is getting ready to start her second week with The MacGregor Group. She finds out they have a special mission and they need Cate's assistance. I felt like shaking Cate at times while reading this book, she acts before thinking and it causes all sorts of issues and manages to get her self in some dangerous trouble.
You see the growth in Cate as a em-path which is exciting to see and I'm looking forward to seeing if Ben and Cate get their happily ever after and how this series ends.

All the Wounds in Shadow, by Anise Eden, is the second book in the Healing Edge series. This is a spectacular sequel to a fantastic first book. In this story we get to see more of how Cate and her team use their special gifts when they are called in to help a high profile client that had been poisoned. We also get to see more of Cate’s and Ben’s blossoming romance throughout this book.
I loved this story so much. The characters are well thought out and feel like actual people instead of the plastic doll models that some books seem to be filled with. The two main characters are both flawed individuals, each with their own demons to face. The romance is allowed to progress naturally instead of feeling rushed, which sets the pace of the entire book. I have to give this book five stars and I can’t wait to see where Ms. Eden takes us, and her characters, next.

August 27, 2017Healing edge series and I for one loved it. This is again deviling into the world of parapsychology and alternative ways to help during medical situations. In this book Cate and Ben grow closer and Cate continues to develop her empath powers and of course being as it’s Cate she continues to fall outside the norms of what everyone has learned so far and gets herself into trouble. I so loved the look into Ben’s past and really felt for Cate when she worries that she isn’t good enough or right for Ben. I’m sure we have all felt this way at some point. But what I wouldn’t give to have her powers to be able to find out what people were thinking. Now that would be cool.
Eden continues to write a story you won’t want to end and characters you grow instantly attached to. I can’t wait for book three.

All The Wounds in Shadows The Healings Edge book 2 by Anise Eden
Four Stars
I knew I would read the second book. I will say that I enjoyed this second book more than the first. Cate is doing better I feel and is taking life slow with Ben. It was still slow but I liked they direction the author went. This was a different view of Paranormal and the author makes you take note on how everything doesn’t have to be hot and heavy. But you get those moments were its really intense and the pressure for more is on. I wasn’t a big fan of the first book but this one had me understanding the first book more. The characters interacted really well together. There were a lot of different personalities in the mix and the author did a great job making sure no one was overshadowed or ran on in their moments. I look forward to book three and all the surprises the author has waiting for us.

All the Wounds in Shadow by Anise Eden
Four Stars
All the Wounds in Shadow is the second book in the Healing Edge series by Anise Eden. You could read this book as a stand alone but I would recommend that you read them in order. The back story will help you understand things in this book. This is the continuation of Cate and Ben’s story. The author made her characters true to life, and the secondary characters really make it a great story wi a bunch of twists and turns. I was hooked from the very first page and read the whole book in one sitting. The paranormal part of the book was nicely handle and I love the mysteries that Cate, Ben and the rest of the MacGregor group must figure out. This is a fast paced action packed story and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. If you are a fan of paranormal I would highly recommend this book.

The Healing Edge Book 2: All The Wounds in Shadow written by Anise Eden is a great conclusion to book 1 All The Broken Places. All The Wounds in Shadow takes place right where book 1 ends. In book 1 you meet Cate and the feelings she has in book 2 you learn about Cate. Cate is learning who she is and who she could be, how to hone her skills and use them to the best of her ability. In this story there are a lot of ups and down by then end of story you have hit every emotion: laughing, crying, fearful, happiness. It pulls you in just like book 1 did and you are compelled to finish it.Anise Eden is a great writer and I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3 All The Light There Is.

All the Wounds in Shadow (The Healing Edge #2) by Anise Eden is the second book in The Healing Edge series and if you haven’t read the first book, I would really recommend doing so. The first book is a good book, and while this second book can be read as a standalone it also starts where the last book left off. In this book it focuses on Cate Duncan and developing her powers, as well as her relationship with Ben. I would recommend starting to read this series if you enjoy paranormal/romance/suspense books.

Loved it! What a great follow up to All the Broken Places. I understand that the series spans three weeks, with each book taking up seven precious days each, but it feels like I've known the characters for much longer. I can't wait to read the final installment on this wonderful, heart and soul-filling series.

What a great continuation in this series. In the first book we learn of Cate and her empath abilities. She enters a program at Macgregor group. She then meets Ben and his staff of characters that have their own special abilities. Cate learns she isn't alone in being special and in the first book she is learning more about her abilities and how to control them. This is training to help others and help herself.
Now in the second book Cate is now not just part of the program at MacGregor group. She is part of the staff. And her abilities are needed to help patients and also to help the group itself. Don't want to give too much detail as this books story is really intriguing and full of surprises. I enjoyed every minute of it. The author does not disappoint.
We also fall more in love with the characters. Especially Cate and Ben. There relationship is fresh and it's sweet. I love how patient he is with her.
As I did for the first book, I highly recommend this story. It's not just a romance but also a fun action pact paranormal story. I also found most of pretty funny. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. It also leaves us ready for book 3.

I could not put this book down! I LOVED being sucked back into this world for another adventure! The characters are wonderful and you can't help but care about the mission. Cate and Ben are just a delight and I enjoy watching Cate learning more and more about her gift. LOVED IT!

This book picks up exactly from end of "All the Broken Pieces" and my expectation that Cate and Ben's romance would be centre stage here was realised. I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book. The main reason had to do with how much action, involving scene changes and characters in and out of those scenes was packed into what we are told is a very short time span. My overall feeling was that I was being 'rushed through' the story, and I would have liked more variations in pace for it to be more credible in both her personal and her work story-lines. We are asked to believe that Cate, merely a week into her training in what is a highly specialised role within a unique team of individuals all bringing distinct healing gifts/skills, is included on a politically sensitive assignment. All of this allows Cate to be tested, to be in and out of her own control, to be vulnerable and to be saved, so the set up worked. Dialogue for different characters felt a little too similar this time around.

Good second book
I enjoyed this second book but the focus with one strong exception was really on the team itself and their skills. Hey with all of that it didn't have the punch of the first book. Not as much action, and lots of filling.
