MY REVIEW:

Excellent!

I'm not even sure if this word is adequate enough to describe my thoughts on this audio book. It is one of the best resources for 4 to 8 year olds I have reviewed.

First of all I love how they tell Bible accounts in a short format with a flair that stays true to the Bible but also makes it come alive. Then they follow up each story with personal application in the "Growing Time" section. Not only are kids learning about well-known and not-so-well-known Bible characters, they are learning how the Word of God effects their own lives.

I can't wait to have my children enjoy this audio book with fantastic narration while they drift to sleep each night. This is a must have for every home with children!

BOOK OVERVIEW:

From this gifted mother-daughter team of Francine Rivers and Shannon Rivers Coibion come the Bible stories youll want to share with the growing kids in your life. Meet thirty important people from the Old and New testaments - some of them famous Bible figures like Abraham and Paul, and others unsung heroes like Amos and Priscilla. The stories will capture kids hearts and minds, and the "Growing Time" sections will help them apply the lessons of each story so they can live for God today!

I red this to the girls at night before bed. They enjoy it because it is not the more common bible stories they are used to hearing.

Are you looking for a way to build biblical literacy at home or at your church? Francine Rivers and Shannon Rivers Coibion’s Bible Stories for Growing Kids is a retelling of the lessons and legacies of men and women of faith throughout the Old and New Testaments. Rivers includes an equal representation of both men and women and her daughter Coibion integrates a “Growing Time” discussion guide to use as a follow up to each story. I was enthralled by Pascale Constantin’s whimsical illustrations and the expressive audiobook narrator reminded me of Bible study author and teacher Melissa Spoelstra!

“To have wisdom, you must first be filled with wonder.” The woman at the well represents God’s response to humanity’s thirst, “both the kind that made her mouth and throat dry and the kind that made her soul ache inside.” I discovered that camels store water in their blood, not their back! A camel’s hump stores fat! Like the camel, Christ “came by water and blood” (1 John 5:6). Leviticus 7:3 says, “the fat covering the inside parts, is to be given as an offering” because the best should be offered to God and in so doing He preserves us from its toxins.

I also learned that in addition to a preservative, “salt was used as money hundreds of years before Jesus was born. The word salary comes from salt, which was sometimes used to pay soldiers…If salt was used as money, perhaps salt was more important to Lot’s wife than God.” Lot’s wife was literally consumed by consumerism!

Finally, I found out that “a tent peg is a huge, thick nail used to fasten a tent to the ground.” Jael foreshadowed Jesus when she invited the enemy to hide in her tent, gave him warm milk and tucked him in with a blanket, then took a hammer and tent peg and killed him. With the nails driven into His hands and feet on the cross, Jesus slayed satan and forever fastened our enemy to the ground! I love that God used a woman as a prophetic foreshadowing of our Savior! Bible Stories for Growing Kids (all ages) is a book to which you can stake your claim!

This was a disappointment. The artwork is terrible and the text is full of vocabulary that is harsh, disjointed, and words kids will not understand. The stories were also not very age appropriate. For example; in the story of Abraham and Sarah it says that Sarah "told Abram to sleep with her servant, Hagar, and have a son." Then Sarah says to Hagar, "But if you and my husband have a baby together, the child will be mine." I want my kids to learn the bible and eventually we will cover these topics. But the artwork and lessons after the stories is geared for an older audience than at first glance.

Not for preschoolers. It'll be good later when they're older 7/8yrs. Heavy focus on female characters in bible.

We really enjoyed the audiobook. The stories were interesting and easy to understand for kids. I really liked the "Growing Time", "Interesting Facts", and ideas for praying that related to each bible story.
