This book will offer anyone interested in achieving high performance a detailed look into how the members of Elite special force units, who are required to operate under the most critical and dangerous environments that one can face. Their members do not derive all success from being genetically gifted. They apply numerous techniques that aid them to become mentally tough, it is not all physical ability. If you read this book and follow these techniques you can a achieve the same performance in your own personal or professional life.
I will add that you will also find short accounts demonstrating the mental toughness forged by special forces members. They really add to the book, and aren't required in order to learn the techniques shown, but they are truly inspiring, and really instill the teachings well.
Honestly, after having read many books on mental toughness and resiliency this book is a must. I’m not saying this out of kindness or ass kissing. It really is good and I can certainly validate many of these techniques and attributes having put them into practice in tough spots. Pick it up, you won’t be disappointed. Sweet, short and precise.
Very helpful, practically oriented book. Sort of a Romans 6 practices applied to leadership under stress. Requires a nuanced Biblical ability to differentiate between pride and self-confidence (I don't think the two are mutually exclusive at all).
This book had a good overview of what it takes to have mental toughness. The examples given of men in combat and giving their lives to save others shows a lot of toughness that few of us really understand.
First thing to say is I didn't read any reviews before buying this book, so my preconceived notion of what the book is was purely formed by reading the publishers summary.
I enjoyed this book, but I didn't quite get what I expected.
First off, this book is well written, and does exactly what the cover describes. It is a great overview of the characteristics or behaviors of our military's special operators, and how they are trained and tested. It also includes some amazing stories of special operators who have displayed tremendous courage in the face of significant personal danger. It has some great hints as to how the behaviors and characteristics of special operators can be applied to civilian life.
What I didn't get, that I hoped for. The Amazon summary says "This book is designed to help you develop the same mindset, strength of will and winning mentality that is shared by Americas' most capable and respected warriors. It can help you change your perspective on how you have been approaching various aspects of your personal and professional life and it provides techniques, tools and tips that can help you achieve your dreams and goals!" In my reading and opinion, it fails to achieve this. Yes, it includes hints and descriptions of the behaviors and characteristics, but it lacks what many Self-Help books have - a recipe to follow. This book is a great starting place, and gives hints of what else the reader should investigate to build their goals, plans, and strategies.
Would I recommend this book? It depends. If you enjoy stories of our military, then it is well worth the read. If you are looking for a self-help book, I'd say keep looking.
All around excellent for anyone wanting to develop a winning mindset. Succinct, practical application points, and demonstrative anecdotes make this book an excellent recommendation for anyone looking to develop a winning/overcoming mindset in any area of life.
Gives an overview of techniques to enhance your toughness, without too much detail. Expect to do your homework. Examples (citations) are nice, but do not add to the overall point.
Very good quick read on mental toughness and developing it with a solid overview of the steps required. It’s better to approach it this way if you want to increase your own mental toughness as it requires more action than research.
Provided inspirational anecdotes and key examples for growth and implication. A lot of the featured material.was practical and worked on the mental faucets necessary for.the foundation of change!
Barely 150 pages, with some fluff. Not a bad read, but I prefer the more scientific approach of this one. It does nicely show the special forces approach though.
This was a great book. I was wondering how this would transfer over to day to day life and I can totally see how it does. Implement what you learn and it will make a great difference in your life.
Every book on this subject is similar in nature but it's a rare thing to find one that is written plainly enough that it is both understandable and relevant in different areas. This book is both. As a SWAT team leader and an American Legion Baseball coach I am constantly trying to find new ways to help both of my "teams" find their true potential, especially with their mental game. This book will do just that and, as strange as it may sound, I'm perfectly comfortable giving it to both my SWAT operators and my baseball players as it will benefit both.
