Assuming no previous knowledge of history, Personalities and Problems is a unique collection of original essays about real people whose lives or careers demonstrate solutions to problems of their times. Each chapter focuses on a problem or issue and illustrates it by discussing the lives of two historical figures (actual or near contemporaries of each other) whose careers illustrate the richness and variety of history.
Great group of ten page articles comparing historical figures. Great for getting my World History students thinking about compare and contrast essays. All the articles have a solid point or theme that connects them to their period in history. I also like that the book looks into the lives of people like Tecumseh or Queen Boudicca who sometimes get left out of the textbook narrative. A great supplicant for a world history survey course.
