This is a re-telling of Cap’s origin, starting with him deciding to enlist and ending some time before he ends up going on ice for years. It’s not a bad version, although the dialogue’s more than a little clunky and Steve seems a bit of dullard at times. I really could have done without the painful attempts to write out the German characters’ dialogue phonetically, to represent their accents. The artwork’s nice and quite consistent even when there are changes of artist. Overall, entertaining but

After drowning myself with DC comics now I finally go back to try out Marvel stuff (I only read a few Deadpool comics in the past) and well..I still can't get very much into it I guess?
I'd been skimming through this volume and for many times I didn't bother to read the dialogues with care so...I don't think I'm gonna rate it. Huh....the artwork is okay and it isn't annoyingly colorful, the story is orderly and okay-ish as well, those Nazi villains are pretty awesome as well---though I LOL whene ...more

This book contains two Captain America mini-series.
The first is the Adventures of Captain America, which is a 1990s retelling of Cap's origin and earliest adventures with a lot of details expanded. Overall, this was a likable story with solid art, particularly for the era that managed to mostly remain consistent with what had come before. While not every change worked, I thought most did. This is a fun look at a little less experienced Captain America.

Arguably more so than any other superhero still being published today, Captain America has his roots very firmly entrenched in World War II. This book collects two stories that revisit those origins; literally, in the case of Sentinel of Liberty by Fabian Nicieza, Kevin Maguire, and others. This story recounts Cap's origin and early adventures, including meeting up with a young Bucky Barnes and encountering the Red Skull for the first time. It fleshes out the experiments that turned a young Stev

We’ve seen Cap’s origin story more times than I need, it solid writing and art make this well worth reading.

Ri ...more

Want to see the difference a artist can make to a book? This book is for you. The adventures of Captain America was meant to be a four issue prestige format series for Captain America’s 50th By Fabian Nicieza and Kevin Maguire. It starts out petty strong and is an entertaining read. Then in book three, Kevin Maguire drops out. Steve Carr steps in. And the book looses all its momentum. It just putts out a finish. Disappointing read. And the back up made up cap newspaper strip that completes the c
