Mid-Life Career Rescue: How to change careers, confidently leave a job you hate, and start living a life you love, before it's too late (What Makes You Happy Book 2) by Cassandra Gaisford continues where she left off with book one. I read that one and had to get this one as soon as it came out. She tells us that we have no need to fear change and to face it head on. She teaches us that we can be happy in our job. It isn't about your starting salary. It is about our happiness. Once you find your passion and do what you love, the money doesn't matter. If you are you doing what you love, your pay should increase since you are doing what you really want to do and your mind will be open for other opportunities. This book is perfect for my situation. I work long hours in a job that is in no way fulfilling. I have no passion for what I do. This book will definitely help guide me towards my passion. If you hate your job, want something better and want to be passionate about your work, this is the book for you. Cassandra Gaisford will guide you on your path to freedom from the trap you are caught in. You have more skills and possibilities than you ever thought possible.

Many of us have at one point been in a job we didn't love, but were too scared to change. The fear associated with changing jobs overshadows our desire of finding something better. So, day after day we keep doing what doesn't fuel our passion and wonder why our life isn't what it could be.

As a starting point, the author asks you to clarify your passions and find your point of brilliance. I thought the later point was a unique way of discovering what we are partially good at. I also liked her chapter on "Pursue your passion not your pension!" Here she dispels the myth that you can't do what you love and be paid for it.

If you are at the stage in your life where you have a yearning for more in your job, then this book is for you. Life is too precious to be in a career that's sucking more from you than its returning. Do your life and career a favor; read this book and start an exciting journey with new possibilities.

As someone who has personally experienced his own mid-life career crisis, I can easily appreciate the contents of this book. At the time, I didn’t have any guidance. I only wish this book had been available then. Fortunately it is available now for all those people who are going through their own mid-life crisis. This book asks you all the basic questions and provides direction to find your next life’s work project based on your passion and not your pension. It provides numerous examples of success based on passion for the cynics amongst us. And you can do all this in the safety of the work life you dislike. Now it is your turn to find out how the book ends.

I enjoyed reading this book as much as reading the first book in the series. It's full of brilliant, actionable advice that makes one feel empowered to pursue their dreams. And pursuing our dreams starts with finding our passion.
I loved the re-cap at the end of each chapter, the exercises, and action questions. Leaving a job we don't love is no small feat, and we must be prepared.
I highly recommend this book if you've discovered you don't love your job and you'd like to pursue your dreams! You will be well prepared to do so after reading it!

A good follow up to the previous book, expanding on the topic of finding your passion. If, like me, you're sick of reading/hearing 'find your passion' and you've no idea what to do - this book has it covered! I liked that the author explains how to actually go about finding your 'passion' or 'purpose'. And she included the 'reality testing' step as well.
I'm at a mid-life career crisis point - a very useful read!

Filled with insightful information

It was a great book that inspired me, as it took a different angle on looking at work. To tailor your job around your values. And that everybody have portable skills that you may not have even thought about.

In this book "Mid-Life Career rescue" author Cassandra Gaisford shares her wisdom, knowledge and insight to help people reach their maximum potential and explore the areas of their lives that they have yet to tap into. This book is very powerful. The strategies are solid and fill you with energy to do what you were born to do. This book is full of positive energy that motivates, and is a compilation of everything the author has learned over the past two decades of teaching others.

The chapters in this book have a very logical flow with each theme building on the next.

Chapter one is all about finding your passion and, tapping into that passion to unleash your latent potential and discover those hidden talents not always easy to see. In this chapter you can re-evaluate your passion and start to turn it into a rewarding career. Chapter two "Inspiration used to carve Out an Opportunity" is about building interest in your work and finding your "happy spot" that keeps you motivated to do the work you feel passionate about.

Chapter 3 promises turn negatives into positives as readers are taught how to "Get the Edge, Find Your Purpose." This is a very motivating chapter with great content to get you motivated into rediscovering your purpose and channel into your power for living.

Chapter 4 is "Prioritizing what’s Important" is about finding what is important for you in the workplace so that you can align your values with your place of employment. This chapter is vital because most people don't even know what their values are. This chapter can take care of that as Cassandra guides us through the steps to identify with our values so we can gain greater clarity in our work. This chapter also comes up strategic exercises you can apply to identify and prioritize career values that will help with making decisions in your career. She also has some great tips to get your values met before you quit your job!

Chapter 5 is a lot of fun. It discusses how to identify your favourite skills and get more intuitive about the things that bring you fun in the workplace. You’ll also be able to identify with your special skills and strong points.

Finally chapter 6 is great at getting you to reengineer your working style and get you to be happier at work by assuring that your needs are better met. There are also strategies and exercises to boost esteem and confidence which I found to be really enjoyable.

Bottom-Line Review:
This is a great book that has been well-written, logically organized and is filled with plenty of exercises, strategies and access to a free workbook guaranteed to get you happier and well-balanced in your life and your work. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know if they are struggling in their current work environment and need something to pick them up!
