I didn't realized when I one-clicked this bad boy that it was by the same author as THIS book, which I didn't necessarily love.
That said, once I got going on this one, I definitely got into it. It drew me in and had a little more excitement for me than Lucian (Filthy Marcellos #1). In fact, I have already started book two.
I have to know how she plans on getting her characters out of the mess they are in, after all...

Well, well, well, this was a good read that is currently on Kindle Unlimited as is the next book of the series. So forgive me as I keep this review short because I’m itching to jump into the next book.
Twenty year old Emma Sorrento is a Vegas mafia princess whose family has arranged her marriage to a man thirty years her senior in New York. It’s her duty to her family and though she can’t stand the idea she also blames herself for thinking this day would never come. The silver lining and bump in the road is Alfonso’s nephew Calisto Donati. Cal has been placed in charge of babysitting Emma until her upcoming wedding.
Did you guess that they’re crazy attracted to one another?
The action kicks in when Emma takes an opportunity to run and this one does end with a rough cliffhanger. Duty, tradition, and family all play a part and these two try and pretend nothing ever happened between them going forward. It’s their only option right?
Bethany Kris delivers a well written start to this mafia series and one deliciously deadly hero in Calisto Donati.

4.5 Duty and Respect Stars
I discovered this author with the Filthy Marcellos. She has a special touch in writing about mafia families. So when I had the opportunity to read Thin Lies, I jumped on it.
Emma Sorrento is 20, beautiful, feisty, and the niece of a Mob Boss in Las Vegas. She has been promised to a man 30 yrs older than her, a Mob Boss in NY. Affonso Donati needs a wife, he needs a son and marrying Emma is just business. Life in the mafia is all about duty. It doesn't matter that Emma has just met this man, that she doesn't love him, and that she is utterly unhappy that her life has been sold off for her family. Emma has a month to get use to the idea and Affonso leaves his nephew, Calisto Donati, his Consigliere, who is dark, handsome and dangerous, to babysit Emma and make sure she makes it to the wedding in NY. And so the story gets going........
Emma and Calisto.......two individuals whom are thrown together. All he has to do is watch Emma, to make sure she doesn't run. But instead, they become close. They both know it's wrong, it's Death for the both of them but sometimes taking a chance is worth any consequence. They dance around each other, their chemistry is sizzling and inviting and they hold off until they can't.
I love the dynamics of the Mafia. I love la famiglia and the Cosa Nostra. The wives, the daughters, the sons, the made men, the Boss.......they all have expectations and rules that must be followed. Even when rules want and need to be broken they can't......that is life in the Mafia. Emma and Calisto know their attraction is wrong, they know they are risking their lives but what if desire and passion override your senses and make you forget the rules? Emma must marry Affonso........Calisto could halt the wedding if he would only do what his uncle ask, but is Emma worth the halt or will he see his uncle marry the one girl who has made him risk his very life, the very woman who has made his feel and come alive?
This author writes with exceptional ease. As you read you become emmersed in the lives of Calisto and Emma. Their forbidden love is captivating, especially since the Mafia is their life. I'm so looking forward to the next book.......Emma and Calisto are very addicting and enticing!!

“DUTY was the first word a mafioso principessa learned growing up. Be good to the family. Bring them no shame. Smile for the crowd. And when the time comes, do your duty.”
What an amazing ride! This story grabbed my attention from the very first page and I couldn't put it down! The story was so interesting and the characters fantastic that I felt like I was a part of the story! Whatever they felt I felt it too. Thin Lies is about betrayal, lies, secrets and suspense. What I loved more about this story is that while I was reading I had my own theories about how this story would continue but nothing happened as I thought it would and this made me loved it even more. It surprised me! Emma and Calisto are two strong and interesting characters. Their sexual tension and their passion is off the charts.. And their attraction was irresistible! Seriously these two were something else!!

Bethany Kris is a nice surprise for me, her stories are unique and the writing amazing. So far whatever I have read from her was very good and always makes me want for more! The ending left me with a need for the second book I don't know how this story will continue! But I'm now more eager to find out!

A new mafia series?
What can I say? This mafia slut is up for some fresh blood and Bethany-Kris just gave me that...
...and I loved it...
Emma Sorrento is your run of the mill Mafia Principessa, she was raised being groomed for one thing and one thing only...her ability to help the family by building alliances through marriage. So when she finds out she has to marry a man that could be her father it's like a slap to her face that wakes her up from her "perfect" little dream...
Calisto Donati is her future nephew...but before that he became her lover...and before that he became her friend and the only person that knew the real her...
I truly enjoyed how the author build her characters and the path that the story took...but the cliffy almost killed me because
So yeah...that didn't go well with me and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5...but I can't wait to get my hands on the next part of their story because it's...

Will review all three books in series once I'm done. That said, I think this has a very different feel to BK's other mafia books, it's a lot slower and I'm not sure their story needed to be drawn out over three books? I'm reserving judgement till I'm done.

There's nothing like forbidden romance and pending messy drama to put me in a splendid mood! On to book two! I hope Father Day will reprise his role in the rest of this series. That man is a refuge for ALL sorts of juicy secrets!

DEFINITELY 5 FUCKIN BRILLIANT STARS
This will most certainly mark the beginning of a fantastic mafia saga
But Bethany, just simply, stunning wow from me...you bought me...from the first page...
Calisto Donati and Emma Sorrento could easily pose as the new Romeo and Juliet of the mafia world…
Emma Sorrento was the mafia principessa, a 20 year old spoiled with wealth and gifts, she enjoyed the life, the pampered, carefree lifestyle were she was cherished and adored by all BUT actually she was bred and groomed to be compliant, obedient trophy mafia wife. AND when that actual plan starts the turmoil impact on Emma, the reality of it hits her right across her face. She's set to be married to Affonso Donati, a man 30 years her senior, to look beautiful, stay silent, enjoy the rich lifestyle and produce at least one heir.
Emma's world crashes with the speed of light, the flying rug was ripped out from under her and she 's in constant falling mode. Everything crashes on her and all the things she was raised with, became a burden, became her enemy environment. She can't breath, she's swept and lost in anger, disappointment, injustice all tucked in the frame of mafia code. And you obey the mafia code.
In one month she'll become Emma Donati, a mafia queen. And she wants nothing but to escape.
Calisto Donati, the broody, gloomy, distant and reserved Affonso's nephew.
Good was not a word to describe Calisto Donati.
He's asigned to watch over Emma until the month of her destiny is sealed in an arranged marriage. Calisto despises his uncle as a person, but he honors the mafia code. La famiglia is the most important thing to Calisto and he follows it through. So being a watchful eye to a beautiful 20 year old who's about to enter his family, even as a nuissance at first, is a task he does anyway.
Calisto could be an asshole, a mystery, and sometimes entertaining when he wanted to be. He was mostly quiet, and he watched people a lot with those piercing eyes of his. He rarely engaged others for any kind of interaction
The distant watching slowly becomes interacting, he's still direct, sometimes rude and anapologetic towards Emma while setting things straight :
He slowly befriends Emma, seeing more than her beauty taunting him…
it grows into compassion and understanding then it flyes into the fall out of the undeniable attraction which they both fight against..
It was wrong. She was another's man fiancee. She was forbidden, she was out of his league for that matter…and yet she felt so right. They felt so right.
And the pull is strong…it's painfully strong…
BUT they both burned in passion…
It wasn't rushed, demanding, or broken. She could breathe this time, feel everything he did, and it was enough to make tears gather in her eyes. She wasn't supposed to have him like this, soft, sweet, and attentive. It wouldn't make things any easier when it came to an end, but Emma couldn't make herself tell Calisto to stop.
But she wasn't.
So he couldn't.
They became lovers for one night. The indulgence that held so much more than release. It was ecstasy, it was freedom, it was intolerable notion of what they could never have, the existence they were never meant to be, in each other, for each other…
Calisto Donati was her worst mistake, her greatest shame, and the one thing she still wanted more than anything. Emma could still feel him all over her, long after his touch and kiss was gone. In thirty days, her entire world had changed – he had changed her.

It's far from over!
There's angst, drama, action but what I liked the most in this story, apart from the story itself, was the gradually build up of angst and pent up tension that burns from within that you can actually feel it. It's so palpable, so vivid and authentic…
it made me burst in anticipation torture BUT I loved every single page of it…
Bethany, I bow to you once more. Excuisite talent expands with every single word you put on a paper…

Holy hell how do I forget how much I love mafia stories?!! There is something about these forbidden men that keeps me all tingly!
B-K did not disappoint..Just like with her other Cosa Nostra series, she has given insight to a secret world filled w extreme rules, violence, sacrifice and -of course- sex.
Emma-In the beginning I was worried she would be a typical rich, spoiled, whiny brat but she opened her eyes early on and recognized that she had been showered with a lavish life only to prime her for a future in which she would be stripped of all choices and happiness.
Calisto- Yummy!- He is a little dark, a little scary and a lot SEXY. Driven by loyalty, he is forced to realize that 'you can't always get what you want'. He has to fight against a sudden need, desire and attraction for Emma that is completely against his character.
The build up was slower, but I immediately felt the connection between Cal & Emmy and I absolutely need them to get their HEA.
I can't begin to imagine how this will play out. i have a feeling lines will be crossed and blood/tears will be shed.
I cannot wait for book 2!

5 Calisto STARS
Holy Hell that went by way too fast!!! If you want a Mafia love story, Bethany-Kris is THE author to go to. Wow, I didn't know this was coming out so imagine my surprise!
This new series is about the Donati family, a smaller outfit in New York . Emma Sorrento is young, beautiful and the niece of a mob boss. We got a peek at the Sorrento's based out of Las Vagas in Kim and Gio's story, Giovanni. Emma has no life. She has no choice. And she certainly has no freedom. She's set to marry the head of the Donati family, Affonso Donati, a man 30 years her senior, in 30 days. Like a prisoner locked up, she has no way to escape or maybe she does?
Calisto Donati is Affonso's consigliere and nephew. Emma's not his. She's taken, off limits but despite the stupidity and recklessness of it all, these two can't stay away from each other.
This was one of the most angst-ridden books I've read by Bethany and damn, it was fucking spectacular!
I loved the build, the forbidden, the longing and lust and the danger. And I abso-fucking-lutely want Calisto Donati!
Calisto's dangerous, ruthless and sexy as all get out. I was seriously in lust and couldn't get enough of him. He's not a good man but even with that, he's got heart and what he does to Emma!
"I want to keep touching just to see if there's a single part of you that doesn't feel like silk underneath my hands. What the fuck did you do to me?"

Holy Hell that went by way too fast!!! If you want a Mafia love story, Bethany-Kris is THE author to go to. Wow, I didn't know this was coming out so imagine my surprise!
This new series is about the Donati family, a smaller outfit in New York . Emma Sorrento is young, beautiful and the niece of a mob boss. We got a peek at the Sorrento's based out of Las Vagas in Kim and Gio's story, Giovanni. Emma has no life. She has no choice. And she certainly has no freedom. She's set to marry the head of the Donati family, Affonso Donati, a man 30 years her senior, in 30 days. Like a prisoner locked up, she has no way to escape or maybe she does?
Calisto Donati is Affonso's consigliere and nephew. Emma's not his. She's taken, off limits but despite the stupidity and recklessness of it all, these two can't stay away from each other.
This was one of the most angst-ridden books I've read by Bethany and damn, it was fucking spectacular!
I loved the build, the forbidden, the longing and lust and the danger. And I abso-fucking-lutely want Calisto Donati!
Calisto's dangerous, ruthless and sexy as all get out. I was seriously in lust and couldn't get enough of him. He's not a good man but even with that, he's got heart and what he does to Emma!

Calisto Donati is the nephew of that Don. He's dark, dangerous, and mysterious. There is no one in the family that complete jobs like him. Although he is offered more responsibly, Calisto wants nothing more. The only reason why family is important to him is because of his mother's lessons.
One thing that Calisto and Emma have in common is that they are both lonely. They are two broken pieces that fit perfectly, but their relationship is impossible.
I would rate Calisto... a big fat 10. I loved his character and attitude. It took me more time to like Emma. She really did come off a little bratty and childish at times. I even wanted to call her an idiot because she made some stupid decisions.
I need the next book now! The way things ended made my heart hurt. Thin Lies is a book that you won't be able to put down easily. It's so much more than a forbidden romance.

Thin Lies es el primer libro de la trilogia Donati Bloodlines escrita por Bethany - Kris y tiene como protagonistas a Emma y Calisto.
Hay un refran que dice que las cosas que no se planean son las que luego mas se disfrutan, y en este caso seria verdad. Realmente no planee empezar esta novela, pero como ninguna de las historias que tenia pendientes me terminaba de atraer decidi lanzarme con algo nuevo sin pensarlo demasiado, aunque tambien es cierto que influyo el que Bethany - Kris es casi siempre una opcion segura para mi cuando no estoy segura de que leer.
Thin Lies es una lectura que va de menos a mas, al principio la trama es un poco lenta pero a partir de la mitad la cosa cambia y se vuelve totalmente adictivo, para finalizar en un desenlace desesperante, literalmente me quede buscando el siguiente capitulo o al menos un epilogo despues del ultimo capitulo, pero no, la novela termina en el momento mas interesante.
En cuanto a Calisto y Emma no tengo ni un solo punto negativo, en un comienzo me tomo un poco conectar con ellos, no obstante cuando lo hice, vivi su historia de amor al 100%.
Historia que me hizo sentir todas y cada una de las emociones que ellos mismos atraviesan a lo largo de este libro, esta historia practicamente te obliga a sentir, no solo debido a que lo que narra es intenso y profundo, sino tambien porque la pareja protagonista derrocha quimica incluso en las escenas mas pequeñas y sencillas.
Como ya digo, este primer tomo termina en un momento crucial, por lo que ya inicie la segunda parte, no puedo con la curiosidad por descubrir que nos deparara en Thin Lines.
Resumiendo, Thin Lies no pudo ser un inicio de saga mejor. Es amena, te va enganchando con cada pagina y encima te deja ansiando el siguiente tomo, ademas el estilo de la escritora nunca decepciona, es sumamente sencillo adentrarse en el mundo de la Cosa Nostra de Las Vegas.

As usual Bethany never disappoints me. For me she is the go to author in the mafia genre!!
Thin Lies was the fastest book I have read of Miss Kris. I was sucked in the story after a few pages. yes it was that good!
This series will focus on Calisto and Emmy, two people who are attracted to each other but can't be together.
Emmy is a pampered mafia daughter who is promised to marry a cruel and older man Affonso. And Calisto is the nephew of this cruel older man.
Her life was not her own. She didn't get to choose.
He is asked by his uncle Affonso to watch over Emmy until the wedding.
I really enjoyed how their story was not rushed, it was a slow build up and it worked perfectly for this story.
I won't tell you more because there is so much going on, it's better to read and be surprised!
All you need to know is the story was fantastic, it will keep you guessing and you will want the next one asap!!

I missed this world!!! I will forever scream that bethany-kris is one of the most underrated authors. One of the most MAFIA underrated authors. She has this way of sucking you right up her stories, no matter how short or long they are. I completely adore her books.

Now, Emmy needs to face her duty while being infatuated with his husband-to-he’s nephew. And Cal resists his destiny while he watches the woman he wants get married to his uncle and boss.
I always liked this trilogy, it’s not super duper long, but it also doesn’t skip steps, everything is well thought out and it takes its time. I would’ve preferred if we hadn’t skipped the whole month, but I do like how Emmy doesn’t just gives up. Cal is in conflict about his feelings and his duty, but in la famiglia we all know how that goes.
I don’t really remember what happens next, but I do recall feeling disgusted at Affonso and his want for a boy. I’m so not looking forward to that, but at the same time, I love Cross, so…
I do like how none of them are like “I’m in love” after a month, they have the hots for each other and want to be together, but it’s not like, “you’re the love of my love” just yet. I LOVE THAT.

The first book of The Donati Bloodlines was off to a good start. I'm always game for a series that will focus on the same couple because I enjoy to be torture with the slow burn romance and the cliffhanger.
Emma Sorrento, 20, is the LA mafia princess that is soon to be married off to a man thirty years her senior, Affonso Donati, the current boss of New York. She only has a month left before her life now as she knows it is gonna be over.
Calisto Donati, 27, consigliere to his uncle, Affonso, was a reluctant made man. He is in-charge of babysitting Emma in LA before the wedding is due. There isn't much he can do in his power despite knowing Emma was clearly an unwilling bride. He just have to make sure that she arrives at New York in one piece.
There seems to be so much more about Calisto that we haven't yet discover underneath his constant smirk and easy demeanor. All we see is a man who rather not be under his uncle's thumb and wanted Emma for himself. His past seems ambiguous and I can't wait to find out more about him in subsequent books.
As I expected, the plot in Thin Lies was a tad much slower compare to the books in Chicago Wars series and I don't mind it one bit. Major part of the story deals with Emma and Calisto unlikely friendship and feelings that blossom due to their time together. We didn't get much mafia action or politics yet. Bethany spent some time developing both her characters, creating this slow burn romance, setting up an impossible roadblock that will sure to test their feelings for each other and of course, the cliffhanger is something that can't be avoided. It goes without saying I can't wait for what will happen next.

So much happened in this book that I definitely didn't see coming. Emma was a spoiled princess, but then she realized what all the clothes and jewelry really cost her: an arranged marriage to a 49 yr old Don from New York. He was a creep and I was dreading her marriage to him. But his nephew, Calisto, on the other hand.... I couldn't wait until they got together. I'm interested to learn more about Cal's history, especially concerning his father's death. Emma's got a lot of fight in her, but I really don't know how long she'll be able to keep that fight married to that monster.

This is now the second series I’ve read from Bethany-Kris, and let me tell you, she likes to put her H&h’s thru the wringer! I don’t think she likes the word easy:D
In this mafia world that Bethany-Kris has created, there are a lot of variables to think about, as it is, that plays into how the H&h’s relationship plays out. We’re talking a world of crime and tradition and a separate set of rules after all. But if that’s not enough, she likes to throw more barriers on top of that for the H&h to pass thru, dio mio!
Emma is spoken for and Calisto is the man responsible to make sure she stays spoken for. Because of that, they end up spending up more time together, getting to know each other, feeding off the attraction they feel for each other. Oy! So wrong on so many levels, yet, you know it, so just right… Certain things you know are foregone conclusions, and lines are crossed… sigh…
And as the warning said, bks 1 and 2 ends on a cliffie, so… sigh…
I’m a new fan of Bethany-Kris, and more and more I’m certain that if I want a good mafia romance, then yes, she’s one I’ll turn to… sigh…

How could you leave it like that Bethany????!!!! I am BEYOND heartbroken right now.
I think it's safe to say she's done it again. Bethany-Kris has invaded my life armed with a new mafia series and left my heart in tatters. *Sighs
I'm in love with both Cal and Emmy - what amazing characters!!! Their sexual tension is freakin' palpable! I was legit like:
throughout the entire book.
Don't want to say much more because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. All I'm gona say now is GIVE ME NUMBER TWO !!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Bethany-Kris is still Queen.
But let me tell you about this book though...
You have Cal who is equal parts sexy as he is rude (especially since he's like the right hand for his Uncle Affonso)
Then there's Emma. And seriously, I loved her. Like the minute she learned what was happening behind the scenes, she didn't just roll over and take it. I love a heroine that can stand up for herself.
And the rebelliousness! (I hope that's a word).
But seriously. There are different aspects to Cosa Nostra and Bethany-Kris makes it an art of showing each side of an organization that is so blatantly known, and yet not truly understood. Needless to say, if you're a fan of Bethany-Kris, this one is a must read. It's going to hurt. You will be tempted to rage, and side eye her because she wants you to hurt before she gives you the good, but read it. You won't regret it.
Also, Bethany-Kris needs to learn that it's not okay to play with the feels.
Bethany-Kris is still Queen.
But let me tell you about this book though...
You have Cal who is equal parts sexy as he is rude (especially since he's like the right hand for his Uncle Affonso)
Then there's Emma. And seriously, I loved her. Like the minute she learned what was happening behind the scenes, she didn't just roll over and take it. I love a heroine that can stand up for herself.
And the rebelliousness! (I hope that's a word).
But seriously. There are different aspects to Cosa Nostra and Bethany-Kris makes it an art of showing each side of an organization that is so blatantly known, and yet not truly understood.
