I am so disappointed. First - If you are not from the Virgin Islands, most of these references will make absolutely no sense. The words used to inspire the reader to visualize a time and a place are really just names of estates - there is no description. Sure, I can imagine what Mt. Washington looked like, but if I didn't grow up near mt. Washington, I would not know what it meant, what west is like, what east is like, what it means to be mid-island. I am disappointed. the stories were disjointed and did not mesh together at all to create any sense of a Crucian narrative. I felt as if I was walking down strand street in west listening to 5 different old Crucians talk about the good 'ole times in west. Even randomly walking by people in west would probably have more of a sense of continuity. I did appreciate a lot of the historical references and the historical timeline was helpful and interesting (only because I am crucian though).
