“First, do no harm.” Blake Ryan swore that oath to become a doctor. Ironic, given that he spent most of his thousand year life sucking souls out of other immortals.

Things are different now. Using regular shots of morphine to keep his inner monster at bay, Ryan has led a quiet life since the Second World War. His thrills now come from saving lives, not taking them.

Until a plane crash brings Aleria into his hospital. Her life is vibrant. Crack to predators like him. She’s the exact sort of person they would hunt, and thanks to a severe case of amnesia, she’s all but defenseless.

Leaving Aleria vulnerable isn’t an option, but protecting her means unleashing his own inner monster. Which is a problem, because his inner monster wants her dead most of all.

Secret societies. Battles and alliances. Unique powers and humanity’s survival in the balance… This story has it all. Follow three characters whose immortal histories are intertwined and will only become more so.

Aleria is suffering from amnesia. Her opening chapter had me 100% immersed. What a way to start a story! She’s a strong young woman who must stumble through the politics and relationships around her to figure out who she can trust.

Ryan has taken up the calling of a doctor, but his past is riddled with deeds so dark it’s amazing the sun doesn’t burn him. He struggles with a nature that counteracts his conscious decision to live a selfless life.

Nick… He was my favorite. He is who he is, and even with a loose mouth and wild abandon to anything that will shorten his suffering, he’s a hopeless romantic I just kept cheering for.

These three are trapped at the heart of a conflict between two opposing factions who protect mortals. With people pulling the strings around them, they fight to keep their heads above water, to stay alive, and to reconcile their pasts with the developing feelings/political complications of the present.

This was a book very clearly penned out of love. The reader can’t help but feel that and it carried me from chapter to chapter until the end. But be warned, this is the beginning to a series. It will leave you twiddling your thumbs until the next installment.

Content warning: Strong language. Violence. One open door bedroom scene. Insinuation.

I keep writing in these reviews that I don't usually read this sort of book... and yet, here I am, reviewing another one of them, so maybe it's time for me to change that assertion. I guess I DO read paranormal books, but only the GOOD ones.

And yes, this IS a good one. It's filled with lots of adventure, mystery, and generations-spanning romances in a story populated by a host of griffins, phoenixes, and a former-cop-and-still-good-guy vampire. The immortal griffins and phoenixes have co-existed with unsuspecting mortals for centuries, but now, thanks to some rebellious and not-very-nice griffins who seem to be more intent on destroying humans than in protecting them, that may all be changing. The question is: can griffins, phoenixes, an undead cop and his former still-living partner successfully work together to thwart the rebels' dangerous and deadly plans?

With memorable characters and an enjoyable fast-moving plot, the author tells a tale that is not only about the paranormal, but also about love, vengeance, trust, and forgiveness. My only beef? It's the first book of a series, so now I have to wait to see how the story ends. (Hurry up, Ms. Gerrick!)

Four and a half stars.

Aleria, the survivor of a plane crash, suffers from amnesia, or else she would immediately know what she is and how she fits into terrorists’ plans to unleash an unbelievable truth to the public. There are griffons, phoenixes, protectors and their feuds, clans, and love triangles. Aleria, her more-than-a-doctor Ryan, and the other characters are well-written and the action scenes are intense. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to the continuation of this story.

Wow. Endless was such a fast-paced, fun and sexy read! I totally love stories where there is an underworld full of immortals living just under the radar of our normal world. Endless is the perfect paranormal romance. The characters are well-rounded enough to break your heart, though it's beating too fast from all the action and adventure to notice. Aleria, the phoenix-protector main character, is a strong woman with a big problem--amnesia, which is a big pain when you have forgotten hundreds of years of memories. As she slowly remembers who she is, she finds herself in love with old enemies and not so sure she's on the right side of any battle until the bitter end. If you like adventure, history, and romance, this book is for you. It kept me turning the pages until the end and I just want more. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I received a complimentary ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

At about the 50% mark I just lost the drive to read. Here's why I DNF. (Also, since I DNF I'm not rating because I feel that's not fair to rate a book you don't finish to the end.)

This was a book whose blurb really had me interested. It sounds like my kind of story and the first few chapters I was hooked. What made me stop were two main things.

1) The POV. There were three 1st person points of views. I've read books with two 1st person POV and had no issue, but three just didn't work for me. It was like too many heads for me to get into or something and I found myself wishing for 3rd person POV so I wouldn't have to remember whose head I was in.

2)The gryphon and phoenix terminology. I had no idea what the characters were. Immortal supernatural beings of some kind, but using the gryphon and phoenix to describe them was too confusing. I kept picturing actual gryphons and phoenixes, and when there was a hint that the one gryphon dude could fly I was more confused. Are they shifters? Terms kept getting thrown out, but I had little to no idea what they meant even at 56%.

Like with Horns, I just found myself dreading picking the book up. It wasn't fun and that made me sad because both books had me super excited to read and ended up not being my cup of tea despite my best efforts.
