Jay Morningstar was the first rule I ever broke.

From the first couple pages I could easily tell that this book wasn't for me. I didn't have many expectations for this book, but I did expect a good romance.

Sadly, Edge of Glory didn't deliver.

I can tell that from the author's note that Magan Vernon is such a strong person, and that this story means a lot to her- so nothing in this review is against her as a person.

From the beginning, however, there was the worst instalove. If there's one thing I

Remember when that book He's Just Not That Into You came out... well, for some reason this book caused me to be that guy...Crazy... because I came to this book caught up in the idea of an Olympic level swimmer and a young 20 year old having the time of their lives.

As much as there were humorous scenes with the strict Italian family, caring and loving with strong dashes of situations of possible embarrassment for our gal, I just fel

Ms. Vernon is a new author for me. I am a sucker for sports romance so I was happy to try this book. This is one of those books that I just really had trouble connecting with the characters. Also, the family drama was not handled in an interesting way. Overall, it’s pretty decent and readable.

I really can't remember how I stumbled across this book. I checked the author's website out and saw that ARCs could be requested so I applied and got one.

For a change it is a romance with a swim theme so not your typical football, hockey etc. Which means that it is refreshing and different.

This is simply put, an easy read. I didn’t find there to be an inordinate about of depth, and at times it was rather anticlimactic, BUT! Sometimes these are the perfect types of stories to read after you’ve experienced something overly emotional or angsty. If your settling into a beach chair for a day, put up your feel and jump into this book. It’ll keep you in the mood while soaking up some rays.

I loved Magan’s song usage throughout the book. There were different styles from different eras, but

I #DNF'd this a month ago because I just couldn't connect with the characters at all. I picked it back up because I don't like not finishing a book and at the end of the read, I still couldn't connect with the characters. I love love love sports romance because I'm an athlete and growing up I felt like I could relate to them, but I just couldn't put my finger on why I just couldn't fall in love with this story. I think I was just hoping this wo

I'd heard of Magan Vernon for a while but this is my first ever read from her. Sadly, this book was kind of touch and go for me. I was all pumped for this read, as the Olympics are a month away (*even though Brazil looks to be in ruins*), but this one errrmmm was just okay. I just did not connect with the plot line nor the characters at all. There wasn't anything that point blank stood out for me, aside from the eye rolling cliches that we readers typically tend to come across, not to mention th ...more

Recently I've been in a weird reading mood. All I've wanted to read was romance, which is slightly unusual for me. I really like the genre, but over the past couple of years I've been reading epic fantasy instead. I have a lot of Magan Vernon's books on my tbr, and have heard great things about them. I decided to start with Edge of Glory, and I'm so glad I did. I greatly enjoyed the book.

From the first chapter, I loved the main character, Lia. I found her to be very relatable. Personal

I honestly don’t even know hot to start this review. When I read the blurb, I was super excited, I mean, it sounds super fun, and an olympic swimmer? Sign me up. Unfortunately this book didn’t live up to my expectations… it didn’t even came close to it, and it actually pains me to be writing this review, and I don’t want to insult the author, not even for a second. But I’m a fair reviewer, and I don’t shy away from bad reviews, so here we go…

Lia is a waitress at her parent's restaurant. Jay is an Olympic swimmer and is staying in Texas to train. Jay is trying to make a comeback in his sport, and Lia is trying to prove to her parents that she is a mature adult.

Lia is a too much a doormat for me. She is almost 20 years old, and she still lacks most experiences that most kids her age have due to her strict parents. She is always doing things to please them instead of following her own dreams. I also felt like they were hypocritical. Th

Sweet romance.
Edge of Glory is a sweet NA novel. Although there is some drama, it doesn't have the over-the-top angst you'd typically find in most books featuring characters in their late teens/early twenties. There were a couple frustrating moments for me, due to some of the things that happened. But then I reminded myself these are young adults, (more on the young side than adult), and realized their actions and reactions were definitely realis

Edge of Glory is a contemporary sports new adult romance which focuses on swimming, personally that is something I had yet to read because up until this point I had only experienced sports romances focused on Baseball or American Football.
The book itself fell a little flat for me, whilst I liked the initial concept and some of the funny moments within the book, I struggled

I enjoyed this book, it was a sweet story. There was insta love but isn't that what reading is all about - escapism! Lia meets the man that she has the poster of on her wall in her family restaurant and she is stuck for words! He likes her too and so begins the tentative start to a romance - with a few hurdles on the way - he is an Olympian so comes with fame, groupies and a persistent ex! Oh and not to forget Lia's over protective family! Makes a change from meeting a rock star. I have picked u ...more

I’m so happy there is finally a book about swimming! My son is swimmer, so I know all the hours and commitment the sport involves. Edge of Glory wasn’t just a love story between two individuals, it was also a love story by Vernon to the sport of swimming.
Lia is from a small town in Texas, and she has a big, loving, and at times, hugely overprotective Italian family. She waitressing in her family’s restaurant when the very object of her dreams, Olympic swimmer, Jay Morningstar, comes in with som

The last person in the world Lia thought would walk through her family's restaurant door is the man who's poster she has up on her wall. Lia is a waitress at her families restaurant. She’s always been over protected. Never really had a boyfriend and the mean girls call her a lesbian. Yeah, that is until Mr. Jay Morningstar walks in the building. The Olympian that Lia has slightly been obsessing over for awhile.

Their falling in love together is so endearing. You see her go through all the issues anyone faces. Am I good enough for him? Is he just going to leave me? I mean they had some awkward moments together. But all in all Jay

Edge of Glory is a quick, humor filled romance. Lia is a hilarious heroine, trying to overcome her own insecurities and an incredibly overbearing Italian family. Jay is the ever charming, attractive Olympic swimmer, more than ready to try and sweep Lia (and her family) off her feet.

The Edge of Glory will satisfy any sports romance lover. The romance is sweet and sexy, the characters have good chemistry, and there is a good balance of drama and humor.

Sports romance is a sub genre I love to read so when I saw this novel was about an Olympic swimmer, I had to jump on it.

Edge of Glory has an unexpected story line that caught me by complete surprise. With an overbearing, meddling family, and two young adults determined to create a life they desire, we get to see the obstacles they must overcome to reach their goals. They're influenced by those around them and it wasn't easy to ignore. While every hurdle wasn't easy, and there were tim

When you finally let someone in, well lets just say those walls go up automatically when you're so sure it will never go right. Or you just don't think it' where you belong. It's a matter of trust and the public gossip doesn't help with those decisions. Giving love a chance can be inspiring, scary and heartbreaking all at the same time. Will they finally talk and see they want the same things? Or will the gossip keep them apart?

5 amazing stars for this book. So I can't believe this is the first book I've read by Magan but that will change asap. This book will suck you in and you will not want to put it down until the last word is read. I immediately feel in love with Lia, she's just so down to earth and her awkwardness is down right endearing. As for Jay yeap he's a keeper all right and his awkwardness around Lia is cute considering his a famous Olympian. Also the side characters in this book are amazing, I can't wait ...more

I read this in one day! It was such a great story. My only concern was with Lia's best friend.... She was annoying as all hell! It seemed like she was 14 not 20 years old. Also, I'm having a hard time picturing what Lia looks like. The story was well-written despite my inability to picture Lia. The characters (minus the BFF) were all very well developed and interesting. Will read more from this author. ...more
