Max and Ruby are getting ready to trick-or-treat. Max is determined to scare his sister, but Ruby decides to turn the tables and scare him.

The illustrations are from the Nick Jr. cartoon. Max actually says two words in this exploit "boo" and "scary."

Our girls used to love the Max & Ruby stories by Rosemary Wells. We've seen enough of their videos that I can still imagine Ruby's voice in my head. Our girls are getting older, though, so when I saw this book, I decided to read it on my own.

The story is short and very much in line with other stories in this series. Max is trying so hard to scare Ruby, but nothing seems to work. The illustrations are very colorful and cartoonish and it appears that this story is based on an episode of the television show, although we've never seen it. I'm not even sure that Ms. Wells wrote this book, although I did not see any other authors listed. I liked the story and I think that it would be a great book to read with younger children for Halloween.

Our 4K kids aren't as familiar with Max & Ruby as kids were in the past - but they enjoyed the illustrations and trying to find Max. This isn't much of a story, but it can be a fun story to read as kids talk about what Halloween things they see. And they do like to yell BOO!!!

28 months - A pretty simple story that's not that exciting or creative but O likes Max and Ruby so it's ok for a seasonal read.

Mischievous Max is trying to scare Ruby on Halloween. In the end his tactics are no match for Ruby's.

Such a cute book! Max always makes me smile with his mischievous antics. Ruby seems to have a few tricks of her own though. =)
