The Women's Bible Commentary

Rate this book
The Women's Bible Commentary gathers the best feminist scholars in the field today to produce a commentary on every book of the Bible, including the apocryphal books, with additional articles on the reception history of biblical women, feminist critical method, and women's religious life in ancient Israel and the early Church. The commentary explores the ways in which women and other marginalized people are portrayed in the Bible, and raises questions about gender roles, sexuality, political power, and family life, while challenging long-held assumptions about how biblical texts should be read and appropriated for today.

I certainly haven’t finished this because it’s more of a resource and not meant to be read cover to cover. I bought it to prepare for a Bible study presentation at a woman’s retreat I was helping to lead. It’s a series of essays by scholars and in my opinion best read with a purpose. i read the 4 Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, 1 and 2 Timothy and Philemon so far and will continue in the New Testament. I thought I knew more about the Bible than I do. This book is revelatory!
