Set in England around the late 1800s, Her One True Love focuses on the theme of women’s rights and the journey of Jane making a life for herself, without a man to support her. The Victorian Era brought forth a change in Society even when women were still not considered to be free to do what they wanted. Jane at first, has the mindset to change that. She wants to support women’s rights and join groups catered to that cause. However, Jane does not take into account the personalities of other women ...more

Clare's Mad About Books

Rachel Brimble doesn't disappoint with this wonderful tale of Jane a young woman from a good middle class family and Matthew the Squire of their village of Biddlestone. They have long been friends but duty over the years has kept them from being anything more. Jane decides to move to Bath and move on with her life when Matthew's wife becomes estranged and he still shows no sign of him thinking o

This book is romantic and heartfelt. Jane determined to help the children and not backing down tore at my heart strings. Matthew finally has his eyes open to what is right in front of him and finally decides to do the right thing. I highly recommend reading this romantic and heartfelt story.

Her One True Love is the 4th book in Rachel Brimble's Victorian Romance series. Although part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. This is the first book I have read by this author and it certainly won't be the last.
This is the story about Jane Charlotte Danes. She has been in love with her village's squire for as long as she can remember. She thinks he is the perfect man, and sometimes she thinks that he may have feelings for her too. When he marries another her heart is b

4 sometimes all you desire and deserve is staring you in the face stars. This is a story of a young man and woman who have known each other all their lives, care for each other, yet struggle to find their way together. It shows how sometimes you have to make a change in order to truly find the life you desire and the love you deserve and also that you must be brave with your heart. I was held in the book's world easily for both Matthew and Jane were solid characters and the tension between them, ...more

Her One True Love is a book set in Victorian England. The main character Jane is a feisty woman, set on independence and forging a life for herself without the assistance of her family or having to rely on a man to shape her or fulfill her life. She has a big heart and wants to help people. Jane is not the norm for that period in history and her story is closely linked with the struggle women of the period faced because they wanted more rights and equality.

Driven by the need to get away from th

Matthew and Jane have known each other a long time but only one has loved the other as more than a friend for too many years to count. Or so it seemed, to me at least.

I admire Jane for, finally, wanting to pursue her dreams. The man she loves is not the man he could be. His wife's infidelity has left him angry, cold, and distracted. The tenants under his care have suffered because of it, and so has Jane. So it's time to leave, head for greener pastures and do good in the world, care and love for

"Her One True Love" by Rachel Brimble. I enjoyed this historical tale of love and growth. Jane and Matthew - at times, they frustrated the heck out of me and other times, my heart swelled and I adored them both. Jane is finally realizing what she needs to make her happy - I admired her strength and courage to pursue her dream of helping children, even if it was a second to loving Matthew. Matthew, he was so lost. His failed marriage did a number on him and, being a guy, was totally clueless to J ...more

Jane Danes has always been the one to look after her mother, when her mother was ill Jane was there to care and look after her as well as their house in Bidderstone. Now that she has passed away and Jane's sister Monica has come home for good, Jane has decided that she wants to branch out on her own and make something of herself. Even though she tells people that it is her own choice and something she has been planning for a while, that may not be completely true. A big part of the reason for th ...more

Jane has loved the town's squire, Matthew, for as long as she can remember. They have been friends, but when Matthew married a woman named Elizabeth, Jane was devastated. Some time later it becomes public knowledge that Elizabeth has had an affair, and left her husband. This causes great scandal obviously, and leaves Matthew very upset. He feels as though he has failed as a husband, not being able to keep his wife happy. He becomes depressed and grumpy, and the town gossip does improve his mood. ...more

Given a topic of Victorian romance coupled with a marriage in name only and committing yourself into another relationship all while the women try to race into a modern era. What a plotline to write!
I am normally not a fan of the modern woman historicals. I had to eat my words with this one! The entire writing is done in such a way that you just keep wanting to read more. The Heroine is strong and well developed in her character and

This was a sweet romance with a few passion filled moments. The story ended the way I thought it would but for a while a lot of things happened where I didn't think it would get there. But I suppose if things are meant to be then it will happen no matter what happens or how long it takes. A well written story that made me think more about what things of importance should be stressed upon.

I've read a lot of books by Rachel Brimble, especially her books for Harlequin Superromance. She writes smart books. That smart quality extends to her historical romances too. This isn't your typical historical romance, because Matthew is trying to win her after his wife leaves him. In fact, his relationship status doesn't change through much of the book. Definitely not what you'd see in your usual Victorian romance. I like that, because things always need shaking up when it comes to romance.

This book is set at the end of the nineteenth century and a romance wrapped in a story of women’s rights. Jane Danes has been in love with Squire Matthew Greaves for years and after he married another, she was devastated. After his wife left him, Matthew still did not look at Jane as anything other than a friend, so Jane has decided to finally move on and follow her dream of helping the less fortunate children of Bath. MY REVIEW
Having only ever read Rachel’s Templeton Cove series, this was a completely new departure for me.  And a rather enjoyable one.  Both Bath and the village of Biddestone are well known to me, so as I read I could actually visualise where the action was taking place.
Growing up with Matthew Cleaves Jane Danes has always loved him.  Her most painful experience was to watch him marry someone else.  But that someone has now abandoned him to be with another man.  Since his wife's departure Matt

Heart-thumpingly passionate, and great for a winter's night!

I’m new to Rachel Brimble’s work, and I have to say, HOTL is a wonderful introduction to a very talented author. A Harlequin Historical Romance, this is a delightful piece of passionate escapism. Jane is at a transitional period in her life; she has the means to make a real difference, away from the constraints of the family home where she grew up. Deciding to up sticks and move to her father’s old town house in Bath, she wants to put h

I have to say that I instantly liked Jane she was a very determined character and once her mind was made up she acted. It was great to see her speak so honestly to Matthew well in most things except for revealing her feelings for him. Jane's independence and desire to help people is a lovely attribute. Matthew has similar traits and is determined to help the village after letting his responsibilities slip.

Although at times I wished I could have knocked some sense into them both but this would ha

WARNING: This book is recommended for mature audiences only due to sexual content (that happens outside of marriage). If this is not your cup of tea, then this book may not be for you. However, you can just as easily skip that scene and not miss any of the overall plot.

This story was an ok read. It was definitely a bit different than the novels I usually read in that the hero of this story was already married to someone else (albeit estranged from her).

I enjoyed watching Jane as she seemed to m

A historical read that was sweet, simplistic, clean, involving. Jane and Matthew have much to get through. Maybe it is best that it is done apart from one another. Jane can no longer sit on the sidelines. Matthew being a man does not want to let her go.
