A Different Road #2

I Hear...Love

Rate this book
One family of five... One life-altering tragedy... Three survivors. Each of the Mason siblings takes the outcome of the devastation three completely different ways.

When you are broken you can never be fully put back together. There are always tiny slivers here and there that can never be replaced.

Kate Mason at twenty-three, feels as though she has lived through enough sorrow and pain to fill generations of lifetimes. On the outside, she wears a beautiful mask, but on the inside, she’s a million, jagged, broken pieces. She lives with devastating guilt, and blames herself, not only for her parents’ death, but for her brother’s blindness as well.

For Kate there is no hope of silencing the chaos in her head. There is not forgiveness for what she has done to her family, or herself. There will never be anyone to love her, and her shattered past.

Cooper Sullivan recently moved to Malibu and was immediately adopted by a stray black lab he named Sadie. Cooper soon realizes there is something very special about Sadie when she is drawn to a beautiful woman, with a kaleidoscope of emotions that burn deep behind her eyes.

Cooper sees Kate’s broken pieces scattered all around her, but he finds himself wanting to show her just how beautiful each piece is. Underneath her mask of pain, he sees an even more beautiful woman, and he wants to be the man who puts all of her broken pieces back together.

Will Kate place her heart in Cooper’s hands?

Can Kate finally silence the noise enough to forgive herself and hear the one thing she desires most?

Can one truly hear…love?

Absolutely loved this book. I walked straight into book two without reading book one and that is alright! But I know I didn't get River's and Joss' story. I got Cooper and Kate in this book. What a couple!!

Kate met Cooper and Sadie on the beach. Cooper and Sadie lived two houses down from River. Kate is in the healing stage. Kate suffers from severe depression and has even attempted suiciide. Sadie is a black lab that detects when Kate needs her.

Cooper and Kate are beautiful together. Cooper immediately takes to Kate and realizes the importance of Sadie and the calming affect Sadie has on Kate. Kate tells Cooper at the beginning how broken she is. Cooper does not walk away.

The story moves very quickly. I couldn't put my Kindle down. The story has a lot of beautiful moment that brought tears to my eyes. I want to read book one and move to book three. I love these characters!! I feel like I want to know each and everyone in depth. Annalisa Nicole is a must read author!

~ 4.5 Stars ~

Now this book is what I have come to expect when I read an Annalisa Nicole book. She gave us a sweet romance without a lot of outside drama, but also an emotional journey of one woman to find love, healing, and forgiveness.

I Hear…Love is the second book in Annalisa’s A Different Road series. This book is a standalone novel, but in my opinion, this should be read after reading book 1 (I See…Love) The characters that we meet in book 1 play an important role in this book, so to get a full and better understanding of the characters I would read them in order. Plus we get more insight into Kate from reading them in order.

This book was different from the first book. It was a lot more emotional and heart wrenching. She does cover the very serious topic of suicide and how one copes after, both the suicidal person and the family. I thought she handled this topic with a lot of tact and grace. She didn’t romanticize it but she didn’t get into to many graphic details. She shows that the struggle is real for everyone involved. I loved follow Kate on her journey to healing. I felt her growth over the two books.

I know what you are thinking, this is going to be a downer type of book, but it really isn’t. Yes my heart was breaking on several occasions, but Annalisa also incorporated a beautiful love story between Kate and Cooper. These two together are what also makes this book heartwarming. This is a fairly quick read, but I didn’t feel anything was rushed or forgotten. My only complaint was the role River played into this story and that I didn’t like River again for most of the book. I understand why he is important to the storyline, but I was hoping after reading his book, we would’ve seen a different side of him in Kate’s book. We do eventually see another side to him but it took along time for it to come out. There is also a small part towards the end of the book that I felt was to detailed and kind of took away from Kate and Cooper’s story. With that said it didn’t take away my enjoyment of the book as a whole, it’s just why it didn’t get 5 stars.

In this book we follow Kate and Cooper’s story. Kate is River’s sister and has been living with some severe guilt since the tragic car accident when she was five. She blames herself for the accident and because of that, has lived with voices in her head and the thought of suicide for years. Like I said this was Kate’s journey to healing herself and learning to love, not only herself but others. Cooper is a man who lives two houses down from Kate. We actually get introduced to him in the first book. When he first meets Kate he is instantly intrigued by her and so is his dog Sadie. Sadie has a weird but beautiful bond to Kate and Cooper really didn’t understand it at first, but finally gets it as his friendship with Kate grows. I LOVED Cooper…he was amazing!!! He was so patient and understanding and he was also able to see Kate for who she is on the inside….not the mask she put on for others. I also loved Kate’s character. I thought she was a strong woman even though she has some weak moments. It just showed that people can heal, with the right support and love around you.

I would recommend this book. Although if the talk of suicide is a touchy subject or possible trigger, then this might not be the book for you.

I had to stop reading twice due to the emotions in this book, so be warned. Tissues at the ready.

From the first word you are thrown into the deep end of feelings. You are taken through the deep intense pain that Kate feels. You have a run down of her past and her present pain. You can't help but feel for her.
But when one day she meets a soppy dog and her handsome owner, Cooper. There is a little spark between them and with Kate being as strong as she can be, she tells Cooper everything about her life. The ball is then in his court and he surprises her.

Kate is strong but her struggles throughout the book but you also see her light starting to shine through and its Cooper who helps it come to the surface. The ups and downs she experiences are heartfelt but your heart swells when you see Cooper do everything she needs to get a handle on her inside voices. Unfortunately emotions and family stand in the way and things go down hill rapidly. Things get said that cannot be taken back and decisions are made.

I loved that Cooper stood up to Kate's brother about her struggles, her life and her loves. You see the strength and love that makes their story beautiful. After a accident, Kate's brother River sees his errors and changes his ways, giving Cooper and Kate his blessing. Again during this time you see the strength, love and loyalty throughout this group of family and friends. It was heartwarming to see Kate get everything she ever wished for with the help of her love and her family.

This book will make you feel plenty of emotions, it will give you a knotted stomach and heartache along with goosebumps. But it's worth it.

When you go through life with voices and noise in your head you don't know how to block out, but also when no one else see's or hears it how you do you then feel so alone.

Kate 23 young you say, well maybe in the number but not what she's lived through she feels so much older than she should. Living through something so traumatic that changes your whole life not only is it hard to get over but it puts the doubts in your mind.

Copper what a beautiful man he was I honestly loved how He was described in this, it's not the big alpha male who knows everything and wants it done his way, no,
Copper was all about the listening knowing what was the right thing to do, and giving Kate he space she needed to understand and come to the conclusions she did.

I loved them both together even if there was someone there waiting to rip them apart,
Sadie !! Ugh I don't have the words to form about her this is something you'll have to read and think about. Me personally I want Sadie in my life.

Families think they know best, they think they know what path you'll go down, which turn you are going for next, well sometimes and like this story is sometimes families need to listen from the outside.

It's not as simple as turning the voices off and switching something else on, their always there waiting for you to let your guard down, waiting for that shred of doubt to creep into your soul and drag you under.

Just how far is Kate willing to take things before someone listens ?

Copper is he ready to let go off the one thing he hears the most ?

5 beautiful and well deserved stars.

Wow such a powerful series is building here. I adored the 1st book but this was so much more. Maybe because there was even more happiness and love IDK. I know River enough to have not been angry with his actions but it was a bit frustrating that it took him so long to come to his senses. I was unsure what Kate's story was going to be and once I figured out River's in book 1 I took a look at the title and assumed Kate's. Surprisingly Kate's was much more than I initially thought. The noise and the memories, the first bit of the story had me in tears and I was horrified with the knowledge of her memories. River may be on the mend with Joss by his side but Kate still had some things to battle out. Thankfully with the help of an amazing dog- Sadie and neighbor- Cooper- she was able to stand up for herself and to herself and finally win the fight she had been fighting. In turn River was also able to let go of some of his guilt and stress making him a bit more happy !! Now I am wondering if we will get Stephen's story ?? Maybe something with Josh and Nina ?? I look forward to more and I am thrilled I was able to be a part of this tour.

I have fallen in love with River and Joss and now Kate and Cooper - there is some great steam in this story but River may just be my favorite man when it comes to that !!!! This author always writes amazing emotion that it would be impossible to not feel something for her characters or some kind of connection to the very real life situations they face.

I thought I loved the first one but this one really stoled my heart. Kate, Cooper and Sadie are super adorable together. First before you wonder why I included the dog's name(Sadie), let me explain. Kate has been working hard since rehab to prove herself to her brother and she is getting stronger everyday. A walk on the beach and she meets a gorgeous guy with a dog. The dog, Miss Sadie, forms a connection with Kate. She is her protector. She also helps Kate form a friendship with Cooper. They start spending every morning together. This in turn makes them stronger and soon feelings are acted upon. River shows his ugly head but soon realizes the what everyone else is seeing and apologizes. The bond that these two have is remarkable. Cooper pushes Kate to be happy and choose what she wants in her life, while Kate shows him how to love again. There is so many swoon worthy moments in this book and a kind of scary one as well. This was very well written and the flow was steady. I have fallen in love with yet another book by Annalisa Nicole.

This is the second book in A Different Road series and I highly recommend reading book 1 first.

This is such a beautiful story at picking up the pieces and being strong enough to move on from your personal guilt. It's interesting how both River and Kate feel like they are each to blame over the accident and I look forward to reading Stephen's journey as well as all three have so much pain yet they cope different ways.

I honestly loved Kate and could really relate to the perceptions she felt on how people judged her and what she really wanted from life. She was so hurt inside yet no one until Cooper was really willing to help her put back the pieces.

Cooper was just amazing and so very dedicated to being there for Kate and helping her through her issues with River. I loved him and Sadie and really can't wait to read more!

A beautiful book and story!

This is the story behind the broken and beautiful Kate Mason. We met her briefly in River and Joss' book 'I see....love'. Now we find out what makes her tick. What puts the shadows in her eyes.

Kate isn't the only star of this story. Its a trio of stars. Kate, Cooper & Sadie. Sadie with her soulful brown eyes and intuition knows exactly what Kate needs. Cooper, the valiant neighbor and Sadie's human, makes sure that Kate gets exactly what she needs.

'I hear...love' is a standalone. In book one we meet River, Kates brother. I would suggest reading his story 'I see...love' to understand how...verbally and emotionally brutal ( no necessarily in a harmful way, more protectively) he can be in book 2.

book one was wonderful, however this book was so much better!! Kate has struggled with so much in her young life, and thanks to her brother, has overcome so much but not all of her insecurities and hardships. Cooper met kate due to his very friendly dog sadie. Sadie and Kate became fast friends and sadie helped Kate in so many ways. Kate and cooper make the perfect pair, the cutest couple! Cooper became my hero when he saved Kate form her dark place. If you have not read book 1, you sure do not know what you are missing!

FABULOUS story! Kate & Cooper have this great magnetic pull that is super sweet & really enjoyable! Kate's struggle is so relatable & her feelings are written beautifully. I love how a certain pup is incorporated into the story. River & Joss have some struggles in this story as well, and while I hated seeing River be that much of a jerk, it gave the story a certain full-ness. And COOPER! Swoony goodness is Cooper.

I highly recommend this series, really everything I've read from this author. I'm very much looking forward to book 3. : )

This book...man, this book pulled me in deep and wouldn't let go. Annalisa has an amazing way of telling stories and I was addicted from the first word. Kate and Coopers story is heart-felt and beautiful. Throw in the amazing Sadie, an overprotective brother and an amazing, ugly cry ending, and you have this wonderful book. Grab the tissues, a lovely bottle (yes, I said bottle) of wine and enjoy! I can hardly wait for the next one!

Not only was I happy we got to hear Kate''s story, but there's something satisfying about seeing snippets of my favorite characters (River and Joss) from someone else's POV that always puts a smile on my face. I See Love is a sweet romance with enough tragedy blended in to keep your heart pumping throughout. This was a delightful little read that didn't take long to devour!

This is a very emotional and moving book. Kate blames herself for her parents death, River's blindness and Stephen drifting away from the family. It's heartbreaking to read about someone feeling their loved ones would be better off without them. She has returned from rehab and River took her in so he could watch over her. Kate meets Sadie and Cooper who both added more to Kate's life. Kate is still fighting her inner demons as well as River bring overprotective. The book is a quick read, but there's in depth character development. There's heartbreak, frustration, hope, love, so many emotions rolled into one book. I'm glad Kate's story continues on.

I liked this story better than the first one...I'd give it a 4.5 stars if I could. Kate was just so broken by what she witnessed that day. And to see her two older brothers come apart like that did at such a young age must have been devastating, obviously.

I loved Cooper and his patience was so endearing. Loved Sadie too! I have to admit I had to skim a little bit when Kate had her issue in the water with Sadie. Not because it was uninteresting...it just made me very tense.

On to Stephen's story.

I've read every single book Annalisa Nicole has released and each one has captured all of my senses, taking me into the lives of the characters and leading me along their paths with them. My emotions become invested, with every low bringing sadness, despair and sometimes anger, and the highs bringing so, so much joy that pulls me back up from the hardest of falls. When I started reading I hear...Love, I wasn't quite sure that the highs would be enough this time around, because with the first chapters Annalisa pulled me so deep into a heartbreaking topic that it felt impossible that I'd be able to break free from the grip it held upon me. I should have known better, because with beauty and brilliance, the strength of the characters and the love they shared was able to guide me from the crushing depths, just as Annalisa's words have always done with her other books. This story may be the hardest I've ever had to read, but it also one of the most touching, cementing its place in my all time favourites.

The story begins with the readers introduction to Kate and a traumatic event from her past that still haunts her. Standing upon the beach, close to her new home where she is staying with her brother, she is thinking of the memories that came close to ending her life. Whilst remembering all that has happened, a beautiful dog approaches Kate and offers her comfort by nudging Kate's hand with it's snout. It is from there that we are introduced to Sadie and her owner Cooper, two souls who would have a hugely positive impact on Kate's life.

Each of the moments that Kate travelled back in time, was absolutely heartbreaking and Annalisa Nicole worded those moments so perfectly, that every single feeling was impossible not to be felt by the reader. Depression is such a crippling illness, it is difficult to be able to cope with the thoughts and negativity that constantly bombard you, the world becomes a very dark place full of triggers that only deepen the sadness. It can be extremely hard to look forward to what lays ahead when the light has been shaded by pain. Seeing Kate go through that was gut-wrenching, I was crying so hard, that I could barely see the screen of my iPad and was hurting so much I wasn't sure I could continue reading. So I took a break, went for a walk then came back home, made a good strong cuppa, grabbed another box of tissues and then dived back in.

It was with the help of Sadie and Cooper that Kate was able to escape a few more of the bonds threatening to suffocate her, but the most amazing part of the story was her courage and the strength she found to fight. Every time Kate took a step forward, I found myself crying again, only this time with tears of joy. When the depression tried to beat her, she started to search for ways to cope, seeking out the bright sparks in her life. Including her family, her friends and her passion, as well as the beauty in some of the little things of life. She started to fight back, not only for those around her, but for herself as well, it was truly special to see. Of course though there were still moments when she needed the support of family and friends, which was provided spectacularly by Cooper, Sadie, Joss and her brother, River.

At times River hurt Kate's feelings, by being controlling, which was part of the story that made me a little cranky because I just wanted to shake the man, but eventually I understood he was only doing what he thought best to protect his sister. Sadie is without a doubt one of the best pets I've ever read, she had a very intuitive nature when it came to sensing times of trouble and did everything she could to look out for Kate and was a true example of why dogs are said to be a 'mans best friend.

Cooper! There are so many things I could say about that man, but I'll try to keep it short. He knew exactly what Kate needed, was her strength when she struggled to find her own and always showed her kindness. He wasn't selfish, he was compassionate and forgiving, honorable and funny, he is the perfect guy and just the right type of person for Kate to be around.

I think some readers who may have struggled with depression will find a little bit of hope in this story, and others who haven't might have a better understanding of what it is. A truly extraordinary read, that will stay with me for a very long time to come. Thank you, Annalisa Nicole, for putting into words, that which so many struggle to voice, I truly believe this story has the power to make those who might be in need, to reach out and ask for help. ❤️

I Hear…Love by Annalisa Nicole
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I met this author at a signing in Houston. We found out we had a mutual friend so I offered a review for her if she wanted. She happily accepted and here we are. I had no clue what the story was or anything I just said “send it to me” and BOOM it arrived on my Kindle the next day….
I liked the premise of the story. Kate and her brother River are in a car accident that killed their parents. Kate has been tormented by the accident feeling that their parent’s death and her brother’s consequential blindness from the accident are her fault. She has been a wreck her entire life. She can’t forget the sounds of the accident and tried to end her life feeling she is not needed in this world.
When the story actually begins Kate meets her neighbor Cooper and his dog Sadie. Sadie can feel the loneliness radiating of Kate and they form a crazy bond. Cooper is also along for the dog/human friendship but is curious about the sad but beautiful woman who lives so near. Kate is a mess about what Cooper is asking from her so she puts it all out there. She is ready for him to leave because when people find out the crazy train she has been on, that is what they do. But Cooper won’t leave and in fact becomes more attracted to this strong and brave but broken woman. The story is them trying to find a way to work while Kate’s brother River is trying to stop the relationship from beginning. Big Brother feels he knows what is best for his sister.
I liked the storyline of Kate’s past because suicide is a tough topic and something that people with depression deal with DAILY. There is never a “you’re cured” button to give to someone. I liked the introduction of the Semi Colon tattoo and what Kate tells Cooper it means. With as heavy as the subject matter of the storyline was, I, the reader, did wish for a bigger emotional attachment. For me the writing didn’t go near as “heavy” as I would have liked to see it go.
Cooper is a great guy but at times I felt his character was a little off. He is super sweet and kind but when he goes a bit alpha, in regards to River demanding they stop seeing each other, it seemed off and out of character for him.
The story also seems to have a lot of side story lines that kind of muddle up the main storyline. I think that those story lines thrown in took away from my reading enjoyment of the main couple.

Kate Mason has struggled with depression since a young age when a car accident killed both her parents in front of her and left her older brother, River, blind. Now an adult, Kate lives with River after a nearly successful suicide attempt, and uses music and the sounds of nature to try to drown out the demons she's still battling. Cooper Sullivan and his dog, Sadie, live a few houses down from Kate and her brother, and it's through Sadie that Kate and Cooper meet when Sadie runs up to Kate on the beach after sensing Kate's unhappiness. The story is told in first person pov, switching between Kate and Cooper throughout the book.

There was was so much I loved about this book. To begin with, I always like stories about troubled characters who need to heal from their past so of course I loved Kate. Then there's Cooper, a genuinely good guy who sees the real Kate: "I find myself wanting to show her just how beautiful each and every piece of her is, and help her put them back together." I particularly loved Kate's journey as she grew over the course of the story, and as a dog lover, I loved the role Sadie played in that journey. This book struck a particularly strong chord with me as I've had personal battles with depression (though thankfully not to the extent that Kate has) and the son of someone I know committed suicide only a week or two before I read the story, so it's not too surprising that I was moved to tears at times, starting from nearly the very first page.

I thought the author did a great job with all the characters, setting them up to react believably to the situation and to each other, and the story moved along smoothly and at a nice pace. The writing style is relatively formal at times, and while it usually works, and works beautifully, the one slight criticism I have is that carrying that style over into the characters' speech sometimes resulted in extended paragraphs of dialogue and formal language that simply didn't sound like how real people actually speak. Really a very minor fault in an otherwise lovely story.

I Hear...Love is the second book in the A Different Road series and I hadn't read I See...Love (River's story) first, so while I can accurately say that this book works well as a standalone, I'd still recommend reading the series in order, as book 1 does provide a lot of background on the secondary characters--yes, I immediately 1-clicked the first book in the series after finishing this one and I will certainly be reading the third book when it comes out. A great, 5 star, read for me.

WOW!!!! Goodness. I'm in a major book hangover here!!! This book is so FANtastic!!!! This book is what I save my Five Feather reviews for!

Cooper, Sadie & Kate - just wow!!

If you read, I See...Love then you know about the Mason siblings. Stephen, River & Kate. The 1st book is about River, who is blind. The 2nd book is about Kate, who has too many voices in her head, and the 3rd book will be about Stephen who seems to have a hard time with words. The three of them lost their parents in a car accident at fifteen, ten and five. Of course this changed each of their lives but in very different ways.

Kate, being only five when her parents died, remembers more the noises she heard. They are on a constant loop in her head. In order to silence them she has tried all sorts of measures, including trying suicide. She's done with her intense rehab and is living at her brother, River, house on the beach. Two houses down.....Kate meets a friend that lives there.

Sadie is amazing. She has so much heart and soul. And she knows how to read emotion like nothing I've ever heard of. She also happens to be a dog. Well.....maybe she's a dog.....I'm not sure since she acts so much like a human!!!!

Kate is having a hard day. She's at the beach and here comes this dog running towards her. She's so lost that she doesn't even see Sadie she just suddenly feels her nudging her hand, giving her comfort.

For all that is possible, Cooper is Sadie's owner. Sometimes it seems like it's the other way around. Cooper is so awesome. He's just....wow....so amazing!!! I wish I could order me one. He's compassionate and understanding but so gentlemanly. He's exactly what Kate needs.

Ok. I've given you enough....YOU HAVE TO READ for yourself!!! LOL You will not be sorry!!! This book is FANtastic!!!! Annalisa you have done it again!!! Love her and her books but this series....it's just amazing!!!!

Highly Recommend!!!

PS: I feel you really need to read book one first. Annalisa does a great job filing in the blanks and so you may not be totally lost reading this as a standalone but I thing you will miss too much of their past if you don't read, I See...Love first.

The second book in the A Different Road series, I Hear...Love works as a standalone (I hadn't read I See...Love, River's story before reading this) but I'd recommend reading book 1 first as it does provide a lot of background.

Struggling with depression since the car accident that killed her parents also left her older brother, River, blind, as an adult Kate Mason lives with River as she continues to recover from a suicide attempt. She uses sounds from nature such as thunder in addition to music to try to drown out the voices that she continues to fight. Living a few houses away from Kate and her brother, Cooper Sullivan and Sadie, his dog, meet Kate on the beach when Sadie runs up to her after sensing Kate's sadness. The story is told via first person dual pov.

I loved so much about this book. I typically like stories about troubled characters who need some kind of healing, which means I loved Kate. Cooper is a genuinely good guy who somehow sees the real Kate and wants to help her put the pieces back together. Being an animal lover, I really enjoyed Sadie and the help she gave Kate and I especially loved Kate's growth over the course of the story. As someone with personal experience with depression, from almost the first page I found myself moved to the point of tears on more than one occasion.

All the characters were well done. I felt they were very believable in their reactions to each other and to their situation. The story had a smooth flow with a nice pace. I did notice that sometimes the dialogue was too formal to suit the situation/character speaking, a carryover from the fairly formal style of writing. Though I enjoyed the writing style, and thought it was well done, it just didn't work for me in some of the dialogue, but it was a very small niggle in a story I genuinely loved. I 1-clicked I See...Love as soon as I was done with this one and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. A wonderful 5 star read.

Music is her salvation. It's the only ways she can keep the demons at bay.
Kate is a beautiful woman but she hides away blanking herself for her patents death, her brothers meekness, and her other brothers blindness. You see and hear about them in the first book I See... Love. I do recommend getting the first one to read it. Because Kate blames herself she had been trying to fight the demons that live inside her, until one day she tries to commit suicide. After getting out of rehab for said suicide her older brother has complete control over her actions. She lives in his pool house and works at the families company. Everything was fine or so she thought till a beautiful lab comes barreling into her live along with her sexy owner. Sadie slowly starts to become a figure in Kate's live, she seems to always be there when the voices are to loud to control.
Cooper is Sadie's owner and neighbors to Kate. He moved to California 2 years prior and this beautiful dog just showed up one day and wouldn't leave. Cooper knows that Kate and Sadie need each other so he doesn't push the issue of them spending time together. Cooper knows that Kate is broken but he can see that she is trying and trying hard to succeed. If only her older brother can see it also.
As their relationship builds, Kate's need for her music slowly starts to fade. They form this unique bond that her older brother wants to put a stop to. They are determined to make it work.
Kate and Coopers story send you on an emotionally charged ride. I cried, laughed, felt sorrow, and I wanted to hug everyone. You see more of Joss and River, Nina and Josh, and you do see more of Stephen.
Annalisa Nicole is an amazing writer. Everything is so perfectly woven together that you can't help but read it to start to finish in one day.

I Hear...Love by Annalisa Nicole

The ups and downs she experiences is heartfelt but your heart swells when you see Cooper do everything she needs to get a handle on her inside voices. Unfortunately emotions and family stand in the way and things go down hill rapidly. Things get said that cannot be taken back and decisions are made.

I loved that Copper stood up to Kate's brother about her struggles, her life and her loves.

This book will make you feel plenty of emotions, it will give you knitted stomachs and heartache along with goosebumps. But it's worth it.

Beware of Spoilers!

Star Ratings:
Heroine (Kate): 2/5
Hero (Cooper): 4/5
Plot: 3/5
Grovel: none
Cheating: none
HEA: yes but no epilogue
Triggers: suicide

Average score: 3/5 – higher score is just because of my love of River

Best Lines: h: “I am strong and I’m getting stronger every day.”

Worst Lines: “A woman who looks like Kate is the last person I’d think would have suicidal feelings.” – anyone can experience these distressing thoughts regardless of how they look

Personal Review:
This was a slow burn love story between a suicidal young lady and a great, loving hero.

What I didn’t like was how suicidal she was even when she wasn’t consciously thinking of ending her life. Who spends their days at the beach, in the water, and DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO SWIM?! What do you think is going to happen?!

Random Ramblings:
•Sadie was a sweetie…

•I have no hard feelings towards River. I understand his over-protectiveness – River has my heart because I know, as an older sister, I would do anything for my siblings if it is in their best interest and it is only recently that I have loosened the reigns a little
•I can’t forgive what Kate put Cooper through. Coming from personal experience, I have very little tolerance for suicide because of the impact it has on their loved ones

Overall Feeling:

To be honest I preferred reading about River again and I don’t think I am interested in reading Stephen’s story

This is the second book in A Different Road series and I highly recommend reading book 1 first.

Kate Mason, 23, blames herself for the death of her parents when she was 5 years old. Since then she has struggled with alcohol and addiction issues trying to cope with the pain inside her. When she moves in with her brother, River, a puppy on the beach is drawn to her and may be just what she needs to help her deal with it all.

Cooper Sullivan's dog Sadie seems to have adopted him when he moved into his new place and seems to be here to stay, Yet Sadie is drawn to the beautiful Kate Mason and in turn so is Cooper. As Cooper and Kate begin to get close will she allow herself to get close to him and when he sees how broken she is, will he still be there for her?

When it is apparent that River doesn't approve will Kate do what makes herself happy or will she regress and submit to River?
