"Definitive treatise"...? Hofstadter, you fail me. This book was more like reading the author's notes rather than a finished piece. The First American '81 edition is almost unreadable--a paroxysm of a demon-possessed typewriter.

Way over my head, but awesome! I feel like this would be a great homeschool resource for teaching group theory.
