Enjoying the peace while she ate her lunch beside the canal in Metamora, Indiana, Cameron Cripps-Hayman was horrified when she looked across the water and spied a protruding hand near the shore. Her immediate reaction was to ring her soon-to-be ex-husband Ben who was town sheriff. The ensuing chaos when police, rescue units and paramedics arrived on the scene had Cam trembling with shock. But when both Cam and Ben were announced as suspects, Cam knew she needed to prove her innocence as quickly ...more

Ever heard of Metamora, Indiana? Well, join the club. But because I was born and lived in the Hoosier State for the first eight years of my life, I've always been proud of my Bobby Knight country roots, so the setting for this book is what first got my attention. Turns out, according to Google Maps, that it's a tiny but historic canal town about a 66-minute southwesterly drive from my home town of Union City. That, and the fact that it's a cozy mystery - the kind of thing I enjoy reading in ...more

This is a super cute start to a new cozy mystery series and if you know me by now, you probably know that with the pups on the cover, I'm sold. However, I must add that I found this to be a well written cozy mystery possessing all the elements I know and love without being redundant or boring.

Cameron Cripps-Hayman moved to Maramora, Indiana four years ago when she married Ben, a town sheriff. During the four years, she has encountered numerous problems such as an eye-rolling step-daughter, an

In this story, middle-aged Cameron Cripps-Hayman takes in several homeless dogs when their owner is murdered. Mentoring a ragtag group of criminal misfits who name themselves the Metamora Action Agency, Cam allows them to spend their community service hours tracking down clues to the killer. Some type of pandemonium reigns continuously throughout this story. As much as I love animals, I must say these dogs weren't exactly lovable and needed major training along with TLC. Cam leaves her job in the city and moves to historic Metamora, Indiana, with Ben, her new husband and town sheriff. Estranged from him after an embarrassingly short time, as she tries to figure out what comes next, she stumbles across a body in the canal. When she and Ben are both named as suspects, Cam and her group of ragtag volunteers try to find the killer before s/he strikes again.

I love stories involving dogs, so I was excited to read this book, hoping I'd found another series to add to

Cameron is still fairly new to the town of Metamora. It is the hometown of her husband, Ben. They have been separated for about 6 months. When Cam stumbles upon a dead body in the canal she is accused of being the murderer because Ben has been seen out with the woman. To add to her troubles, she is at war with her mother in law, has Ben's daughter to deal with and adopts the dead woman's dogs. Cam and her band of misfits have to put their heads together to find out who did the woman in.

I started this book weeks ago and just now finished it, not due to lack of trying. I love mystery, suspense, crime, who dunnit books, and this one was no different. I love cam and her insatiable desire to do what's right, despite everyone telling her not to . Mia and her eye rolling, was a whoot,I loved the relationship between Mia and cam, the way it started and how it was in the ending, awesome. Now, what I'm wondering is, when is Ben and cam getting back together?? I'm starting the second ...more

Deadly Dog Days is a cozy mystery with a lot going on behind the scenes. It starts with Cameron finding a dead body on her lunch break and gets more chaotic from there. Or maybe I should say we’re introduced to more chaos from there … because I have a feeling Cam’s life was already pretty chaotic pre-dead-body-discovery! Between turning 40 and her sore knee, her separation from her estranged husband (who may or may not have been dating the dead girl) and her mother-in-law from

When a woman is found dead in a canal, the walker who discovered her isn't the most likely suspect for her murder, but she finds herself under suspicion anyway. Partly because she's agreed to adopt the five large dogs belonging to the deceased, to save them. Isn't that a sign of guilty conscience? The setting is the historic town of Metamora, Indiana, which is quiet and doesn't have much of a police department.

The tone of the book struck me as serious, but it's a lighter mystery, not a police

I found this kinda 'meh'. It wasn't bad, but it was a pretty generic cozy mystery. Pacing was fine. The plot was ok. The characters were mostly alright (some were super annoying, though. I was kinda hoping the daughter would go back home to her mother). But that's really it. It was just...ok. Nothing about it was terribly gripping or kept me invested in the characters. If you like cozy mysteries and think the plot sounds interesting, then ok, give this one a go. But I really don't have

The author's note says that she loved the TV series "Northern Exposure" and enjoyed visiting the quaint canal town of Metamora, IN. She wanted to create a group of characters and interactions much like Northern Exposure, but in this small town instead of Cicely. Having watched the show and been to Metamora, I honestly can't rate this as a success.

Stilted writing, overly cutesy cardboard characters and a trite plot ended up feeling like an injustice was done both to the show and the town!

3 Stars. This was a fun, cozy mystery read. I was pleased with flow and style of the writing. The characters are colorful and the setting interesting. There is so much potential for the rest of the series in this regard. Was disappointed by the lack of romance, which I prefer in my mystery/suspense reads. That's just my pref, though. It was otherwise a decent enough read.

3.5 stars - I enjoy cozy mysteries, and this one was a step above the average cozy. (One thing I specifically liked is there wasn't a stupid love triangle!) Cameron is trying to find her own identity as a newcomer in a small town when she discovers a murder victim - and learns that she may have a motive as the killer. The situations were entertaining and the book has some fun and quirky supporting characters.

Thanks to netgalley for the review copy!

I'd give it 3.5 stars. There were several funny parts and I like that she adopted dogs. Cameron seemed to wonder aimlessly through the book with no Income and she kept spending money. Mentioning her bad knee happened more than enough too. Hope book 2 will be better.

There isn't really a whodunit mystery that we should have figured it out before the denoument. She did not give clues for us. It is a cosy story, but not really a whodunit. Bummer!

The biggest problem is terribly confusing numbers of unnecessary characters. She named and described 42 characters. At least 11 of them have no part in the story. She just names and describes all the shop-keepers in town. Then ignors them totally in the plot. It seriously detracts from the story. Horribly confusing!

A fun new cozy mystery from new to me author Jamie M. Blair. Moving to a new place is always tough and has placed a heavy strain on Cameron Cripps-Hayman’s marriage. But Cameron is making the best of it and carrying on. The town is dying a slow death and she seems determined to nip that in the bud. She is surrounded by an eclectic group of misfits that will steal your heart and pretty much anything else lying around. When Cameron finds the body of a young woman rumored to have been seeing Cam’s ...more

Cameron has asked husband Ben to leave the ancestral house that his parents have given them while they reconsider their marriage. Now she's stuck with her sullen teenaged step-daughter and her monster of a mother-in-law. Fortunately, her sister is also visiting, which helps Cam cope with the "Why am I a murder suspect" blues. She also has taken in the five dogs that the victim left behind (it's a small, small town, after all). She decides that she had better investigate the murder of a local ...more

Deadly Dog Days is a fun start to a new series. While trying to enjoy her lunch break, Cameron is unfortunate enough to discover a dead body in the canal. She then finds herself, and her soon to be ex-husband, being suspected of murder. Cameron decides to use her team of community service-hour seeking volunteers to help her investigate. Add in one step-daughter who has come to stay, and the victim’s 5 unruly dogs, and Cameron really has her hands full.

One of those cutesy little mysteries where the heroine is kept impossibly busy while trying to figure out who killed her estranged husbands current girlfriend/just friend. The dogs add another layer as does the step-daughter and town of Metamora Indiana. Which is real and turns out to be an hour or so from my home. Might be fun to visit. Book is fine but like a potato chip. They all kind of blend together.

Charming series set in a small Indiana town with FIVE dogs accompanying the main sleuth. Cam is also in charge of a group of people who need to do community service; a group that reminds me of the cast of Scooby Doo! When she enlists their aid in the search for a murderer, the town will never be the same again. And with five dogs in the picture, how can you not like this series?!

A story that will satisfy most cozy lovers. The characters are so plentiful and zany that the murder often takes a back seat to the chaos created by them. That's far from a bad thing and I very much enjoyed reading it.

This was such a funny book. I'm so glad I discovered it. I really enjoyed the characters and the town. Poor Cameron has been having one of those days for a really long time now. She gets into all kinds of predicaments and has a really kind heart.
