Outstanding, careful review of the various options for translating Revelation 12:17 and Revelation 14:12, relating to the Word or commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, faith in Jesus or faithfulness of Jesus. Other parallels include keeping the commandments of God and having the testimony of Jesus. In light of the cosmic conflict painted in Revelation 12 and its manifestation on earth in Revelation 13, followed by its culmination and resolution in Revelation 14, the Word of God offers God's promises or His covenant, and the faithfulness of Jesus provides the fulfillment of God's covenant faithfulness in keeping His promises to His people; originally, in the Old Testament, to literal Israel, but in the New Testament, and in particular in Revelation, to spiritual Israel, those who with patient endurance maintain their faith in Jesus by keeping His commandments and having the testimony of Jesus. Although God's people are faithful in Revelation, what gives urgency, meaning and purpose to their faithfulness is God's faithfulness through Jesus Christ and His refutation of the attempted deceitful attack on His throne by His adversary, 'that old serpent called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world.'
