Back a couple of years ago, when I was first learning about the subject of "passive income" (that is, products you set up only once and then keep making money on into the future without further effort, like ebooks or apps), one of the first things I learned about the subject is that there are a whole lot of scam artists involved in the passive-income racket, running essentially pyramid schemes that sell you books about how to get rich doing passive income, that essentially say, "Write a book abo

While the content in this book was not all together new for myself specifically, there is a decent framework for working through a new product idea. The author starts from a product first point of view, which he explains is reasonable given that he is trying to help an entrepreneur determine whether the product that they have inside of them which is bursting to get out is something (or some variant thereof) is worthwhile to take to the market. This stands in contrast to the model of starting wit

Brilliant book!
If you have a business idea and you are wondering if it will work or not then this is the book for you. I have been a listener of Pat's podcast (Smart Passive Income) for many years now and I felt compelled to read this book, even though I have no new business launches coming up in the near future.
He is very clever in the way he presents. There is a real mix of stories, acronyms, other book references, homework to do and lots of actionable steps that all make complete sense. It ...more

In "Will it fly?" Pat Flynn goes over what it takes to figure out whether a business idea has a chance to "fly" or not.
It's a mix of ideas taken from The 4-Hour Workweek, The Startup Owner's Manual: The Step-By-Step Guide for Building a Great Company and other recent business books that are popular with lifestyle business owners. In this regard, the book does not bring much new to the table.

This is a practical book that offers a step-by-step approach to assessing and validating a business idea through a series of "pre-flight" tests. If you have a business idea, the book aims to help you shape this idea to improve its chances of success.
The book is divided into 5 parts. In part 1, you test whether your idea fits with your goals and aligns with what you want for your future. You will build a chronological roadmap of your past work experience to learn about your strengths and weakne ...more

I'm a big fan of Pat Flynn. He's one of the few internet studs that actually seems to care about his followers and fans.
This book isn't at all what I expected. I was actually expecting very high level general ideas. I figured at least getting Pat's opinion would add to my arsenal of business start up ideas, tips and tricks.
Unfortunately, if you want to really get value from this book, you have to put effort in. You actually have to do work. That being said, this is one of the few books that will ...more

It's a book with a lot of todos. If you 're starting something or you want to start this is a book before doing it to learn how to validate. It's a book to explore for your life even. Isn't your life a journey where starts new everyday? Read it. It's worth it. Ps: the tempo goes down a little bit at the end but still read it

Provides a simple and actionable framework on how to validate an existing idea and most importantly make sure it fits with who you are as a person, as an entrepreneur and what your life's vision is. I'd reccommend to entrepreneurs approaching the launch of a new company. There are quite a few useful insights and some practical hints.

I would avoid the audiobook as this is a highly hands on book, you should aim to follow as a course instead of just listening. However if you are familiar with business creating and want to update Yousef or get some new digital tips and hints go for it. Fantastic book, highly precise and topics extremely well organised o a coherent sequence of events with tons of practical applications

I've known Pat Flynn for over 5 years and I expect that anything he publishes will have excellent, quality content. After reading Will It Fly, my expectation was not only met but exceeded. It's excellent, filled with quality content. Not only does Pat break down each step of planning your next business idea, but he forces you to think whether the business fits your lifestyle. He walks you through with actionable steps to help you analyze your idea and ultimately to put it through a litmus test t

This book claims to teach its readers the power of discrimination between good and bad business ideas.
Ironically, however, 50% of it just advances the contemporary bullshit myth that wealth and success can be achieved without actually producing anything, but merely by moving, re-branding, re-wrapping, and re-selling cheaply-produced items taken from someone else.
Obviously, this is a terrible economic philosophy. No amount of hustling and marketing is going to make buildings, food, clothes, smart ...more

This book was fantastic! I read this book in just a few sittings (I have newborn twins so it's not as easy to sit and read for long stretches of time like I used to). Pat uses simple exercises, that he does with you, to really help you determine if your idea will "Fly" in the marketplace. These exercises have really given me a lot of clarity on what I plan to do this year. Thanks Pat for the great resource. If you are a person that already has a business or thinking about starting a business, I

I found this book to be super helpful. I love Pat's down to earth style and use of stories throughout the book. The exercises and free course that goes along with the book helped me to take action.
I appreciated how that started with defining a bigger picture vision of how I want my life to be in five years and how to develop a business around that.

I think it was a fairly decent book with lots of fun activities. I made a paper airplane with my son. wrote down about where i would like to be in five years. made a mind map to help clarify my vision and what i wanted to accomplish. and did market research about my intended project niche learning relevant things along the way.

If you have a business idea and you are wondering if it will work or not then this is the book is definitely for you. Pat Flynn gives us a decent framework for establishing a new product idea. He starts with the planning stage and takes us all the way to the launch of our product.
However, the book is highly repetitive and it contains a little more than the necessary personal stories – childhood stories that are not so relevant and etc. Besides that, the book is full of (affiliate) links that are ...more

This book is a great way to learn how to validate an idea independently of your status as an entrepreneur. The actionable steps and exercises Pat describes and ask you to do (and also show himself how to do them) make a lot of sense and I bet applying them could help you validate and test several things:
1) If you and your idea are compatible: if the idea you have will support the lifestyle you want.
2) If your idea is of any value for someone: there is no use in wasting time, effort and money d ...more

When I picked up this book from the library, I didn't realise that the author was someone whose podcasts I have been following for quite some time. Like the episodes from his "Smart Passive Income" podcast, this book is filled with chapters of useful advice for entrepreneurs. There were also a number of tests and exercises designed to help would-be entrepreneurs discover and evaluate the viability of their ideas before they plunge headlong into their (mis)adventure.

I purchased this book because I wanted to learn about Validation before launching a new business, and this book certainly lays out actionable steps that I can actually apply. Steps I wish I knew before starting other ventures launched in the past. I like it because the strategies stated are those that well-known entrepreneurs continue to use; strategies that are actually easy to implement yet have profound impact. Kinda makes me think "wtf didn't I do these before??". Bookmarked a couple of sect

The author, Path Flynn, is a mentor of Michał Szafrański. I bought this book in a pack with the recent book of Michał, expecting that it will deliver at the same level. It does not.

There are three reasons why I have reached out for this book: 1) It was recommended by Michal Szafranski; 2) I need to know what to recommend to my students or early entrepreneurs; 3) I always wanted to know who exactly is Pat Flynn, as I haven't had the opportunity to check his podcasts or content.

Definitely the best book of 2016! This book is exactly what I needed in my early stages of launching my side business. It engaged me to dig deeper into the nuances of my idea and challenged me like no other book has. It's a perfect blend of practicality and real case study stories that will inspire you with the "I can rock this too" attitude. I love how much Pat goed into detail on how to evaluate whether the business idea is worth pursuing or not.
Sure, it does seem a lot work. But if you want to avoid the frustration on working hard on your business only to find out later that the business isn't viable to begin with, then get this book and do the exercise outlined in this book.

Mostly I thought this book didn’t quite live up to its title: I was expecting theoretical and practical methods for validating a business initiative. There were in fact some tips on how to use the internet to do customer research and gain early feedback on ideas. But I felt the big chunk of the book was about designing one’s life and searching for business ideas.
For me, the key takeaway of the book was ”the basic basic formula of validation”:

I enjoyed reading this, as its easy conversation also style is quick to digest. But that doesn't mean it's lightweight. It contains solid, practical steps, taken in order, with no interpretation needed. If you follow the steps and commit to doing them, you can test your idea before committing hundred of hours of labour to something which won't work, when some tweaking earlier on could make all the difference. I’m Pat Flynn, a regular thirty-three-year-old guy from San Diego, California who makes a living on the Internet. I haven’t won the lottery, and I don’t drive a fancy car. What I do have is a beautiful wife, two amazing children, a loving family, awesome friends, and a line of work that allows me to spend most of my time with them. I consider myself the luckiest person on earth. Here’s why.
