O.k. First off this is not a young adult like the previous books in the series. This one is told from the POV of Sheriffs Deputy Elizabeth Caine, who in the previous books has acted as a mother figure to Mala; and Ferdinand Lafitte also not a young adult. This is also not a stand alone, the last book left off as a cliffhanger (ARG) and this one picks up right after. I will do my best to review without spoilers and yet give enough detail to tantalize you into reading the series. I love ARC REVIEW

O.k. First off this is not a young adult like the previous books in the series. This one is told from the POV of Sheriff‘s Deputy Elizabeth Caine, who in the previous books has acted as a mother figure to Mala; and Ferdinand Lafitte also not a young adult. This is also not a stand alone, the last book left off as a cliffhanger (ARG) and this one picks up right after. I will do my best to review without spoilers and yet give enough detail to tantalize you into reading the series. I love Mrs. Sandro’s writing style she gives wonderful active setting, it pulls me into the humid Louisiana swampland and the magical fighting between witches is outstanding.

If you missed the previous book, Mala LaCroix was kidnapped. Mala is the rightful hoodoo queen, but her great aunt, Magnolia, was such a horrible woman Mala doesn’t want anything to do with anything she had; not taking her place as queen started a fraction war. Bess now must trust a man who broke her heart and did nothing but lie since the beginning. Ferdinand isn’t a liar; he just can’t tell Bess the truth of what really happened. He sold his soul to the hoodoo queen Magnolia, a blood bond that keeps him from revealing secrets; he couldn’t even if he wanted every time he tries the curse chokes him and can result in his death. He is, however, the only one who can help find Mala. Showing everyone he means well and that he really had no part in the events of the previous books Bess decides to trust him with the live of Mala and with her heart. Just thinking about that part of the book makes my spine tingle.

Bess, Ferdinand, Dena, Anders, George, and Landry are running from one fraction; who wants to kill Mala and trying to find the other who currently has Mala in their custody and are trying to trade her off for some scientific research done by a mad scientist. Ferdinand has his own reasons for wanting Mala back safe and sound and it has everything to do with his love for Bess. Constant battles between good and evil, surprise characters and a sassy ghost make this a quick and easy to read, funny, fast paced paranormal romance. Overall it fits right in with how great the other books in the series are and leaves you wanting more. And I think George is finally going to his own book! ...more

I've been waiting so long for Bessie to have her story told. And Ferdinand is just the sort of man-candy I approve! It's time the adults take the stage. They make the perfect couple!

The best yet of Sandro's books!

This is a tricky review, even though this book was not officially appearing to be part of the Dark Paradise series, it is most definitely one of those.. I did not have read any of the series books and I feel like that it is why I did not enjoy this story as much as I could have. When it comes to review, fairness is the most important thing to keep in mind. Out of that fairness, I am giving this book 3 stars. It is a fairly short read, about 150 pages, and it has a whole lot of characters. I am sure that all of them appeared in other books so that the readers had time to familiarize and get to know them. Obviously, it was not my case, and I struggled until I reached about 60% of the book. At that point I started to get a sense of who is who and related to whom. This story is written both with Elizabeth (Bess) and Ferdinand point of view. It gave some depth to the story, but was kind of confusing at time (I had to get back couple of pages just to make sure I was really getting what was going on).

There were some things that were well done, others that missed the mark. Pace was so fast that I was feeling like there was no time to breathe. I would have loved to get some intimate moment with the characters. One of the biggest flaws of this book is Bess, two of her closest family members were kidnapped but her emotional response to it was almost non existent. I get that she is a strong woman, in charge of the Police Department; but I did not felt all the emotional turmoil that should have been present. It might be because she needed to keep it rational, but she let herself have intimate encounters with Ferdinand. We felt her passion in the love scenes, but it was odd in regards of the current events surrounding her. At the beginning of the story, she hated Ferdinand, wanted to hurt him.. a couple of hours after she was into his arms and his bed. Right in the middle of some action scenes, she was stopping and kissing Ferdinand. They were running for their life and bullets were flying, but you just stop to kiss someone? It was not Bess or the book brightest moments.

Some parts of the story were really good (the ending), but Bess parts kept pulling me out of it. There were too many things going on for a 150 pages book. It is feeling rushed and I think that is the main reason why the story was a bit of a let down. That being said, Ivy, Sebastian and their mother were thrilling. I loved Ferdinand side of the story. Ferdinand character was well built and believable. The supernatural side of the story was well done and it sure does have a lot of action scenes that were well written and that I enjoyed.

Angie Sandro is talented and is able to bring us into her imagination and her world. It was an entertaining read and I might be reading her Dark Paradise series soon.

Another "I asked for an e-ARC of a book based off its cover and New Adult categorization" that resulted in me reading a book that's the second in a series and definitely not NA and completely outside of my genre.

I read through the whole book, but I didn't really care for it or the main couple, but I want to emphasize it's probably a just me thing (thus me not giving it a rating). I don't read very much paranormal romance/urban fantasy because it rarely appeals to me. This might be a fine book ...more

Bessie, or Lt. Elizabeth Caine, is at a loss. Her 'adopted" niece and her cousin are kidnapped by a doctor for experiments is crazy, especially in such a little town. Maybe in the city this would be believable but out in Bertrand Parish, its just insane. Insanity seems to be a valid reason for the formerly good doctor to be trying to make super humans. If only that were the only crazy part of this town...

Bess has grown up and raised a family in this town and as such has seen her share of weird. ...more

***This novella is not New Adult*** I'm working with my publisher about fixing the category. This is a novella based on two of my favorite characters from the Dark Paradise series. Bessie Caine and Ferdinand Lafitte are a little older and wiser than my previous characters, but they also have their own issues to resolve and true love to experience. I had a blast writing their story and bringing the gang together again. I hope you enjoy their crazy world as much as I do.

So much fun to be with these characters again! Bessie & Ferdinand's story is action-packed, fast-paced, and full of plot twists. Ms. Sandro's writing just blows me away. The descriptions are creative and engaging. I can't wait to see what this author writes next.

Great book. Sandro upped her game! Thoroughly enjoyed this can,t put down book. I have read all five of Sandro,s books in this series. I am hoping this isn't the last book in this series. Would love to see Mala as queen. Great author.
