In “The Witch’s Spellcraft Revised,” Tarostar uses an odd mix of antiquated English (e.g., Thee, Thou, waxeth, and etc.) and modern English in the text. In fact, entire sentences are written in this manner. For example, in the ‘Lover’s Binding Charm’, the ingredients include,
“…A Bit of hair from thine own head…” (pg. 30).
Just like with Anna Riva’s books, many of spells in this book were formulated specifically for using the Anna Riva product line. In short, if you find yourself wanting to attempt one of these spells, you either need to make your own oil and powder blends or buy directly from the Riva line. It makes sense, then, that this book was published by Riva’s company.
There are a few spells, like “Punish a Lover and a Rival,” that don’t require Riva-specific products. However, this particular spell reminded me of a dear friend of mine in the mid-90s who used a similar but different type of spell—with a fruit buried in the earth—to magically dispose of someone. The so-called “victim” of this spell was indeed a very evil person; he raped and murdered one of her friends but the police could never arrest him. By all accounts, the spell worked and he quite literally began decaying from the inside out from an incurable leg infection which quickly took his life. However, not long afterwards, my friend was diagnosed with a lethal form of cancer that spread from her bowels to her leg, causing her immobility. After less than a year of intense suffering, she died at the tender age of 18.
My friend was young, but she was at an age of understanding. She had every right in the world to be angry. But the **way** that she went about it was wrong, and it returned to her three times stronger.
Like Riva, Tarostar doesn’t police readers by including only ‘good’ spells. For example, one can find spells like “Destroy Thy Enemy” and “Terrible Curse of Impotence”—all without a discussion of what can (and most assuredly will) happen as a result of such negative actions. For my part, I’ve literally watched with my **own eyes** how negative magic (and hate in general) can bounce back on practitioners, and I don’t wish that on anyone. This book lacks a much needed discussion of ethics so that readers will completely understand how the law of return works. The author doesn’t need to be a gatekeeper, but should at the very least provide a full explanation of the outcomes that **will** follow those who wish to practice black magic.
This book also includes a number of spells that can be worked using both candles and seals that don’t necessarily require Riva products; the author includes seals that can be copied from the book. If you are a regular purchaser of Riva products, then this book will be useful for you. However, the antiquated language and negative magic was a bit much for me.

Tarostar, you either love or hate him. He used to have a column in the old Green Egg (pagan) magazine back in the 90's until his sharp tongue riled one too many sensitive pagans. But his humor, omg! I actually got to chat with him online back around 2000 through his student, Yew, who was a member of my old Yahoo Sorcery Group. The man is a hoot.
When you read this gem, you'll see why I laud Tarostar because for one, he writes his spells in rhyme and meter. Makes them so much easier to memorize like a poem in school. Hw also gives you plenty of how-to for doing good as there is for messing a nasty person up. There are seals, gris-gris (charm) bags, incantations, herbal stuff - you name it, it's in here and for a real deal of a price. I make all of my students read this book as part of their Sorcery training.
