This edition with an added Index that makes it more user friendly, also included in the front of the book are several photographs of Orson Pratt, many controversial subjects discussed such as Christ being married and also being a polygamist, pre-existence, Heavenly Mother, what kind of fluid flows in the veins of Gods, the incubation period for pregnant Gods, what kind of food the Gods eat - celestial vegetables, etc. Most of the text is not that controversial, but Brigham Young once banned the book because of his objections inspite of the fact he comissioned Orson Pratt to write it. Much of the text deals with plural marriage or polygamy. Pratt was President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at the time. A very thought provoking book, New!

I want to read this book because some one on my women in the scriptures blog shared this quote from it. So interesting.

"Every good principle which you would have your children inherit should be predominant and reign in your own bosoms; for, though the spirits are pure and heavenly when they enter the infant tabernacle, yet they are extremely susceptible of influences either for good or for bad. The state of the parents' minds at the time of conception, and the state of the mother's mind during her pregnancy, will be constitutionally impressed upon the offspring, bringing with it consequences which, in a degree, have a bearing upon the future destiny of the child."

Mainly a defense of polygamy. Very well written and writes a convincing case for why polygamy is consistent with Old and New Testament Christianity. The prattling of a horny man wanting to bang 16 year-olds, but a fascinating read.

The only book of its kind. It is a photo reproduction of an original paper which was published in 1853. Great thinking from one of the finest minds of the 19th century. Not sure when I read this. Date is only a guess.

For those interested in the original mormonism, an essential book on the topic.
