The first time that I read this book was 32 years ago. I have just re-read it now. My experience that I acquired reading it has not changed even after one score and thirteen years.

This is the first volume of the "Awaken, Children" series that has eight others. This volume is a good, in point of fact, an excellent introduction to Mata Amritanandamayi's teachings, and what She really is. In a world today that is abound with, I should say, multitudinous god-men, Gurus who proclaim that they are incarnations of (not a god but) God, untold hordes of soi-disant self-realised masters and mahatmas, it is all too easy to mistake the leading lady in the book for one of those dissemblers who hide under a false appearance of spiritual masters.

At the time of the events that have been recorded in the book, Mata Amritanandamayi was about 24 years old to about 28 years old. The third child of an Indian couple, who themselves had not been to a secondary school, and whose lives had largely been circumscribed by the customs and traditions of a fishing village in Kerala, followed the footsteps of her guileless parents by completing her primary education when she was but 10 years old.

That girl, whose knowledge of the Hindu scriptures and spirituality came from her village, enthralled pundits, professors and even western-educated people when she jolted them out of their elitist reverie by her spontaneous display of spiritual knowledge, and when she expatiated on subject matters that were well beyond the province of a village girl.

The book explains how wondrous the mind of a self-realised soul, and how it perceives the world, and how we could benefit from it.

Anyone who has got Mata Amritanandamayi's (Amma's) darshan will be able to assimilate all the experiences described in the book.
I strongly advise for people who are seeking to go on a spiritual journey. There is no selfishness involved in this path. It brings true peace, happiness and bliss to the soul.
Her teachings also makes one to learn to lead a simple, a more fulfilling life and to face life's challenges with strength. More important to treat everyone equally.
