“One of my most rewarding jobs was finding unwanted animals their forever homes.”
A writing career was the last item listed on her bucket list, until she discovered that she wanted to put her stories on paper and breathe life into her characters. Her love for Scotland, curiosity of history, and passion for romance has inspired her to write her first book, Highland Burn.
“Fourteenth century Scotland was a fascinating time in history. Not only was Scotland fighting for their freedom from the English king, their own people fought each other; clan vs clan. Though being a woman of the twenty-first century, I wouldn’t want to live in those unsettled times. But writing historical fiction paranormal romance allows me to escape into their world and breathe a fresh air of romance and magic into that era, which I love to do.”

This book does not say so but I would put it a 3.5 in the series "Guardians of Scotland ". I have read all the previous books in that series and this one is a part of the series. It is a short read about 103 pages. It is a standalone book but I really enjoyed the other three books and would say get them just cause they were good reads. Rory Cameron has seen his friends find their mates and marry. Rory is now wanting to do the same but has not yet met anyone that even comes close to the passion and love his friends share. Rory has started to feel lonely and would like nothing better than to meet her. Then one day he happens to see a fire burning in the woods and goes to look at what it is. Kenna Mackenzie has been a orphan since she was littler. Her Uncle left her at a near by Clan in hopes of her making a match and strengthening the ties of his Clan. Kenna does for a relationship with the Lair son and they are to be married. But on her wedding day she has a vision that she should not marry him and that any son she has would be a demon type of a child. So runs away and stays in a cabin in the woods. Five years later Rory finds her after falling the fire to her Cabin. After just seeing her once Rory knows that she is his mate. But Kenna is having issue now with her ex fiance who has just found her. This starts story of love.
Loved the book although I like a little more information. I did not like the way the book ended. I think I would have liked Rory and Kenna go back to the Laird and get married there with all the Dragonkine brothers. Maybe have their wedding at the Chapel on the Black Stone on the Hill. I would also have known about Kenna and Rory's son. Since Kenna had visions, I would like to see that her son with Rory is not evil.
It was a short novella that focuses on Rory finding a mate. I really hope that Ian pops up again, and we find out if Rory will join the Black Douglas against Drest or not.
Kenna Mackenzie is supposed to wed Ian Mackintosh and everyone is coming to witness it. An old crone tells her that her destiny isn't with him and she is to flee to the forest. Kenna has always had visions since she was very young. She now has one and realizes the old crone was right-she cannot marry Ian. She flees to the forest and there is an empty cabin waiting for her. The cabin is hidden from everyone thanks to the old crone-no one can find her. She lives there with her friend Finn, who is a wolf she saved as a pup and continues to stay with her. Besides having visions, she also has a special talent.
She meets Rory Cameron, a Dragonkine warrior and one of the seven Guardians of Scotland in an unusual way. She sees a dragon and shoots an arrow at him and wounds his wing. When she runs to see it, what she finds is a naked man with an arrow in his shoulder. She takes him to the cabin and takes care of him. After 5 years, Ian is still looking for Kenna and he finally finds her at the cabin. He's never given up trying to find her. Rory is furious as is Ian. They both turn into dragons to fight for her. She is disgusted with both of them and sends them away.
Well, you'll have to read the story yourself to find out what the outcome will be. I just loved this story and characters. It pulls you in from the beginning until the end. Has romance and adventure. Just a fantastic story and I just loved Finn!! If you love dragons, you'll love this story. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the fabulous stories.
I have loved the Guardians series and Rory's story may be a novella but the romance was steamy and loved the story. That said, the reason for 4 stars was there is an underling storyline that started in Book One of the King Of Dragonkine rising. This threat to Scotland and humans has been only touched upon since he has supposedly risen near the end of Book 3. It's been more about getting all the original dragons their mates and finding out there's more than just the 7 original Dragonkine. I do love this series but what is going on with King Derst?
Rory is on a quest to find his/ dragons mate when he sees a wall of fire and smells honeysuckle. ..Kenna is on quest to save her unborn child while escaping an ill fated marriage....their journeys cross and mesh to find their hearts and triumph over obstacles to love..
Loved it! Some short stories leave you feeling like they have gaps but not this one. I fell in love with the main characters. It was romantic & the chemistry was hot, hot, hot!
This book was good. I found it to be too short for the story told and would liked to have more of a background on Kenna Mackenzie. The story starts out with the wedding of Kenna to her betrothed Ian..but she flees the ceremony when she has a vision, which Ian doesn't know about, about her unborn son and Ian holding him and his mother with a malevolent expression on her face. She couldn't let harm come to him so she flees. She meets up with Rory Cameron, Dragonkine. He has to woo her and mate with her but she isn't co-operating. Quite a good story and good writing but not enough info on why she doesn't like her mother-in-law to be at the beginning, etc. I really liked the other 3 installments of the Guardians of Scotland but this not so much.
