Desire won’t take no for an answer in The Right Kind of Trouble by Shiloh Walker

In the small Southern town of McKay’s Treasure, everybody knows that the handsome local police chief, Gideon Marshall, has been carrying a torch for Moira McKay. It’s also no secret that Moira has been rejecting Gideon since…forever. But after an attack from a mysterious stranger bent on taking down the McKay family, Moira becomes filled with distrust toward most men. Now she wonders whether she’s been wrong about Gideon all along—and if it’s not too late to admit him back into her life…and into her bed...

Gideon has finally convinced his wasted heart to give up on Moira, who he’s loved since he was sixteen years old. Moira’s attack changes everything, however—and he vows to protect her. But how much is he willing to risk for a woman who’s always kept him at bay…until now? And is it too late for Moira to tell him that her love for him has always been locked deep in her heart—and he holds the key?

“Shiloh Walker’s writing just gets better and better...[and] the sex is sizzling.”

This is a second chance story. It is a little difficult to understand as a standalone but it's not impossible if you're willing to accept that you might have questions. The story follows a greater plot that has affected her siblings and has spanned three books including this one. The pieces come together aa they realize who is involved in the attacks. The detail that went into the intricate plot was clearly evident and the writing flowed well.

The characters were flawed and had depth. The emotion and internal conflict were strong throughout. While I really liked Gideon, I had a hard time respecting Moira for stringing him along for so long. I understood the reasons influencing her actions, I could not reconcile that with the length of time it took her to come to her senses. Again, if you have not read the first two books, you may find this frustrating and/or challenging. Safety:

DNF @24%

I won't be rating this since I haven't reached 50% of the book. And to be fair, I did a fair bit of skimming with that 24% already.

I enjoyed this series for the most part. I loved the intrigue and the legend that surrounded the McKays and their town. There's a whole overarching mystery that was set up since the first book and we got the conclusion in this one. I won't try to even unpack that convoluted mess because it's better that you read that one yourself.

That wasn't the reason for my DNF though. That dubious honor belongs to Moira, the heroine. Now, I understand she has issues. But for someone who supposed to be tough and smart, she's very weak and unreasonable. I was ready to hate on Gideon but I thought he'd done her wrong. But again, it was all Moira.

She strung Gideon along for, not 2, not 4, not 6 or even 10 but 18 years. She loves him or so she says. Her family says she loves him. Heck the whole town thinks they belong together. Yet, she pushed him away over and over and over again. But the man loves her so he keeps coming back in hopes that Moira will finally realize how much he loves. What does she do? She got married. And still he was there by the sidelines.

She got divorced because well, when you're in love with someone else, that tends to sour the marriage faster than you can say I do. But even after that she still pushed Gideon away.

Now that would have been fine and dandy but while she pushes him away, she also, in her own way, refuses to let him go. It was like a she has to know how far she can push him and I feel like she gets some sort of satisfaction in seeing him still continue to be there, living in her town even though she constantly harps on him to go.

What's even more annoying was that when Gideon finally, FINALLY, decided to moved on, she got hurt.

Like what the fuck, lady?? You didn't want him but you don't want anyone else to have him either??

In other words, Moira was all about ME, ME, ME.

Still I kept on reading because I was very curious to see why she would subject herself to this kind of self-flagellation. And I was ready to give her a chance because there has to be a good reason, right? No one pushes a good man away for 18 years without any good reason.

Turns out, she has no good reason to:

a) Push him away.
b) String him along for 18 years.
c) Throw a tantrum when she finds out he's ready to move on.

I'm sorry but her reason was very lame. I understand she felt guilty even though it wasn't even her fault. She was young and it messed her up. But 18 years??? Plus, she was a royal bitch to him. The guy didn't ask her for anything at all. He basically waited for her for 18 years.

18 years, people!!

I'm all for long separation and I don't even mind if both couples are not celibate during the whole time they're separated. But they better have a good reason for separating in the first place!!

Sorry for the rant but I couldn't finish this book. I just can't.

For almost 20yrs Gideon has been holding on to his love for Moira but when the last year only brings more heartache, he decides that it is finally time to leave the town of McKay's Treasure.
Moira has played the martyr and punished herself by refusing to accept Gideon's love but when it looks like he might finally be done, it snaps something inside her.
The misfortune that has been hitting the McKays lately only seems to be increasing, in frequency and violence. Someone wants to punish the McKays and Gideon won't and can't leave until he knows Moira and her siblings are safe. Not only is Moira's life in danger but her heart is too and she needs to show Gideon that she's done punishing them both.

The Right Kind of Trouble is book three in the McKays series and you'll definitely want to have read the first two before starting this one. Each book in the series focuses on a McKay sibling and their love interest, #1 Headed for Trouble - Neve Mckay and Ian; #2 The Trouble With Temptation - Brannon McKay and Hannah; and this one staring the oldest McKay Moira and her childhood sweetheart Gideon but they all also contain a murder mystery thread; the whole series is more of a family saga. Secondary characters get povs and all the books work together to give a great encompassing view and story of the town and its people. After glimpsing Moira and Gideon in book one, I was dying for their story.

After reading books one and two, I thought I would be ready for all the angst and after waiting for the cord to snap between these two, it finally did. The author gives us a heart wrenching beginning in chapter one and the emotion doesn't let up from there. The word soulmates is often bandied about in terms of hearts and puppies, but Walker gives it to us in all its soul crushing glory; soulmates where life, pain, love, and human frailty get the best of it. There are minimal flashbacks to Moira and Gideon as teenagers falling in love. We're made to understand it through all the emotions that surge between the two; which the author writes wonderfully. Moira's wall against Gideon toes and slips over a few times the line of angst for angst sake but it makes for amazing tension. I felt Gideon's frustration with his inability to just leave and his, from every pore of his body, love for Moira. I felt Moira's outer iciness shielding her inner deep longing for Gideon. I felt their tension, desire, and pain; I just felt and was absorbed into it all.

Walker's writing always feels so real to me and I think it's because she doesn't hide or shy away from the messiness of life. Moira was married for a time, Gideon tries to date someone else, but they're still emotionally tied to one another. I know I said this about this series before but it really does read as a tv series, with all the threads and characters tying in and out in regards to the main couples and murder mystery. I don't want to spill any spoilers but the mystery suspense plot was well done in its breadth and depth over three books. It was a little elaborated with situations and people being placed a little too perfectly and a little overdone with the reasoning behind it all but it was also engaging. Out of all three books, I also thought this one had the best suspense; I was on the edge of my seat. The author gives you enough clues that it's possible to have a good guess to who the villain is by book two and I had guessed correctly. Knowing who the villain was though, only enhanced the suspense for me as I was nervously excited to see if they would get caught and when the characters would finally figure it out.

An executive or producer needs to get a hold of this series and turn it into a tv miniseries, stat. Taken all together, this trilogy was amazing for its emotion and tension. I wanted to yell out loud at the characters to not ignore or put off hints that could have helped them and happy sigh when the couples finally got together. Moira will anger you every time she pushes Gideon away, even when you know she's dying inside for him and Gideon will have your heart that breaks for him lusting (the guy waited 18yrs for her!). Walker is one of the best at writing angst and dark emotion, Moira and Gideon's love story was beautifully emotionally gory.

She held out her hand. For the longest time, he didn't move. Then he did---toward her.

Moira McKay has had the proverbial bee in her bonnet about McKay’s Treasure’s Marshall Gideon from the beginning of this series and we are finally getting their story.

Holding the torch, Gideon watched as the tough as nails and head of the McKay family kept everything together, but the pain is too much. Gideon has finally come to a place where he is moving on…and it’s just when Moira needs him the most.

Can Moira give Gideon a second chance and will Gideon be willing to turn his heart back over to Moira once again? It will be a matter of life and death.

Let’s be honest, Moira’s and Gideon’s reasons for their estrangement really didn’t work for me…BUT, I found myself white knuckle reading. So here’s my conundrum, characters that make stupid choices causing years of unhappiness always fry my nerve and still I wanted more of Gideon and Moira electrifying sexual tension. Walker still writes a story that I found riveting and above all highly entertaining. In the end, I’m giving The Right Kind of Trouble 4.5 stars.

I have to say, when I grabbed this off Netgalley, I did not realise it was the third in a series, and in all honesty, I do feel it needs to be read in order. There is a lot of stuff mentioned from previous books, and it real almost more like a family saga at times, than a romance. It is all about the MCKAYS! Seriously, everything seems to be named after this family, and the entire town is still obsessed with McKays of years past.

I found the heroine, for some reason, slightly unlikable. Not even sure why, I just struggled with her. I expected her reason for pushing Gideon away to be something so much more, but for me, she punished herself, and punished the hero for YEARS, over a not very good reason IMO.

Ofc, when he is trying to move on is when she decided she wants a second chance.

In saying that, I did like the hero Gideon. I just felt he got a very raw deal all in. And did not really understand just WHY he hung around for 20 years and never moved on. Of course, if he had, we would have had no story, but still, the heroine married someone else in that time!

All in, I did sort of enjoy it, I liked the hero, I liked the heroines siblings and their partners, but I probably would not be tempted to go back and read their stories.

I didn't really enjoy this read and I was debating exactly what to write. I really liked the writing and the suspense plot but it was totally ruined by a ridiculous heroine and a doormat hero.

You really need to read Books 1 and 2 first, I didn't so that definitely impacted my reading enjoyment. I won't however go back and read the first two books as I did not enjoy Gideon and Moira's story and I have no desire to read the other books.

In lieu of writing a review, below are some of the comments I wrote to myself as I read the book:

The 18 year time span was a bit much.

Her CEO job seemed part time which for that size company is unrealistic.

Gideon seemed to cut a wide path through female law enforcement officers

Her throwing stuff at the front of the novel leading to their sex was OTT.

Page 180 her reaction to his gun

Her failing to tell him she knew where Kevin was

At page 250 with Moira's TSTL bratatillia melt down I almost stopped reading. This is a CEO? Really? She's a ditwit! Give me a break!!!

The mystery is still alive and kicking in the the final installment of McKay series. This read was just as angsty and heartbreaking as I thought it would be. I confess that when I received a widget from the publisher to review this I was hesitant to commit. If you read my review for The Trouble with Temptation you know that Gideon was pulling my heart strings already! I just had to know what was in store for him.

Dragging my feet as I did (because I was waffling with my mixed feelings about the HEA for these two) I decided to take the plunge (plus I had already guessed who the villain might be and NEEDED to know if I was right, dang it!)

 photo warning_zpsxpdelumh.gif

Right off the bat I have to warn those that prefer safe reads. This is NOT safe. This was a story about a man who met and lost his soul mate to guilt and doubt and resentment. Its about a woman who loved so deeply but also felt a massive amount of guilt for that love. This is a second chance romance that is heavy on the emotional push and pull between the MCs.

Now, typically this is not my type of read. But having read the last in the series, I found myself pretty invested in the mystery plot. My curiosity was piqued and in the end I just couldn't say no.

 photo Yup_zpsxr9ks2k9.gif

I can honestly say that I enjoyed this read. Aside from my pet peeves popping out like daisies here, the story was driven and intense. It was packed with emotion, grit, suspense, and unexpected twists and turns to finally reach it's climatic ending. This was a great way to wrap up this series. I didn't skim as this did hold my attention surprising well. And although I really was hoping for a cheesy full of warm fuzzies epilogue to finally tie everything up with a pretty pink bow, this was still a satisfying read.

On the romance scale this was a 3/5 rating (More tears than laughs and more drama than romance.) The heat was 4/5 (Pretty damn steamy) This can be read as a standalone but it would be much better understood if you read the previous two in the series.

PS: Was totally right about the villain! *high-five's self*

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Argh! Why doesn't NetGalley make it clear(er) when a book is part of a series? I picked this up and had no idea that it was the third in a series. Obviously I read it as a stand-alone but I would say this was quite difficult to read as a stand-alone, I would view it as the final part of a trilogy and there was a lot that I didn't really understand as a consequence.

Moira McKay is the eldest of three siblings. Their family has been the leading family in McKay's Treasure (yep, that's the name of the town) for generations and they live in a big house called McKay's Ferry. Moira runs the multi-million dollar McKay business. Her brother Brannon is engaged to Hannah, a paramedic who is also expecting their baby. Her younger sister Neve is engaged to a Scot called Ian. Their parents died in a gruesome car accident when Moira was a teenager, Neve was in the car with them. Moira subsequently brought up her siblings with the help of the family retainer Ella Sue.

The novel opens at McKay's Ferry at the party celebrating the two engagements. Moira is in the kitchen washing up and Gideon Marshall, local police chief, is talking to her. Apparently he has been in love with her for over 20 years but she has consistently pushed him away. Now Gideon has started dating one of the County Sheriff's deputies. Just as Gideon starts to try to move on with his life, Moira realises she has made a mistake by pushing Gideon away, but is it too late? This part of the novel didn't really work for me, or perhaps it is more accurate to say this didn't develop the way I was expecting from the blurb. Even when Moira explains why she pushed Gideon away it didn't really make much sense to me - maybe I missed something.

Both Hannah and Neve have been targeted/attacked in the previous books, everyone thought the perpetrator had been discovered and was dead, but it seems he may have only been responsible for some of the things that happened. Someone seems to have a grudge against the McKays, in succession Moira is attacked and buildings they own are set on fire. It seems the attacker is looking for some buried treasure which he believes is rightfully his. I didn't really understand the interactions between the various historical characters and what actually happened - maybe this story was developed in one of the earlier books?

Overall, I enjoyed the thriller aspect of this, there were a couple of potential suspects for the attacker and I thought Shiloh Walker did well to confuse matters enough to keep me guessing.

I would recommend that readers read the previous books before this one as I felt I missed some of the nuances of the story.

Bumped for release.

To some family means everything. To others it means nothing. To Moira McKay at 16 she learned a hard lesson. She learned it means every last breath. That love can cost you everything.
You see Moira was best friends with Gideon Marshall and somewhere along the way they became more. So much more. On this night it was their anniversary of when they became a couple. So they had made plans in advance with her mother. She bought new clothes and everything. At the last minute there was a glitch. The person their parents had as a guardian in case anything should happen to them had passed away from a heart attack.
So they had made plans to go to Ella Sue’s to ask her and her husband if they would be to people to take the task on. When her mom said something to Moira she got all whiny. Her mom allowed her to go on the date. She took Neve her little sister and she left her younger brother Brannon and told her they would talk later about her attitude and her tone of voice. At the beginning of her date with Gideon Marshall all she could talk about is how could her mom have forgotten and then been mad at her. Gideon was just trying to get her off the subject and get her to cut her mom some slack. She had a great date.
When she went in all was quiet so she just figured the family was all sound asleep. So the next morning when she was awakened by someone ringing and banging on the front door. She was surprised she beat her mom to the front door for once. She didn’t find it odd that her brother didn’t wake he could sleep through anything. When she opened the door there stood the Chief of Police and his deputy. Along with Ella Sue and Gideon was holding Neve who had tears in her eyes that were slowly falling down her cheek.
At that moment she heard talking that was saying, “We have to tell you something.” She walked to Gideon to get Neve but she wanted to stay with him. The Chief tried again to tell her when all of a sudden she yelled, “NO!” Because her brother must have heard her because he came out half asleep. Neve wanted to go to him. That’s when she fell into Gideon’s arms. Telling him, “Don’t let go.” His response, “You don’t have to ask me twice.” That day everything changed. From this day forward she started pulling away from Gideon. This relationship was in for a bumpy ride. We’re they friend, lovers, or more?
She not only pulled away but at times she became hostel. That one day Gideon up and joined the service. Which killed her. Which started their 20-year roller coaster. But now Gideon was back home and chief of police. Someone is out to get the McKay children and now their loved ones.
See how Moira handles having him back in town, him deciding to finally date someone that wants him since she doesn’t seem to, and how Gideon can deal with someone after the women he’s still in love with?
I was hooked before the end of the second chapter. I didn’t even want to go to sleep that night but sleep is overrated until you need it. I thought I knew who it was but I kept questioning myself until I knew for sure. Yup, this was a good one. I give this 5++++ stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at:

I do wish I had known this was the third book is the series and yes it can be read as a standalone, but I think I would have appreciated the story and plotline so much more having read the first two books. I do plan on going back and reading them.

Without going into the backstory too much and staying with the two MC's Gideon and Moira who have had a long term, (huge understatement) they have a 20 year history with each other. Gideon is about done waiting for Moira. While Moira has been busy raising her siblings after their parents were killed, she now runs the family business. Their feelings for each other run long and deep. It's only when Gideon decides to try and move along a little bit, Moira wakes up and realizes that she really does want him and the story unfolds from there. I loved Gideon, he's steamy yet level headed. I liked Moira too, despite wanting to boot her at one point. The twist in here also is that the lives of both she and her sister are threatened and Gideon is determined to protect them at all costs. This was a well written book, the characters were fully fleshed out, the storyline was great, even though I hadn't read the others, I could surmise some of the backstory, but you do miss the subtleties not having read the other books. The balance between the suspense, love story and the family was perfect. The twists were spot on and the book was a smooth yet gripping read. Shiloh Walker wrote a great story here.

ARC REVIEW

The McKay's book three by Shiloh Walker, The Right Kind of Trouble is the conclusion to the McKay's troubles. I hope I see more of the town McKay's Treasure in the future. I'm a fan of Shiloh Walker, I really enjoy her writing and I had been waiting on Moira and Gideon's story since the first book. First off I would not read this as a stand alone, it is easier to understand and follow if you have read The Trouble with Temptation and Headed for Trouble. It is a great big ball of mystery and devious means the whole shebang that started in the first book wraps up and I just have to say, I CALLED IT!!! Right off the back from the first book I said he did it, I love it when I'm right. But the reason behind it, which I was nowhere near close to guessing right was good, great motive.

Moira and Gideon have a history, it has said as much in the previous book but in this one it delves a little bit more in the the seriousness of their history and the fact that Moira was punishing herself for what she thinks she did wrong. Up until this book you always see Moira as the calm collected type, queen bee, in charge, ice queen but you see the vulnerable side of her in this one. With everything going on dealing with the trouble with the family and the fact that both Hannah and Neve are planning a double wedding and then someone attacked her; Moira is having a hard time keeping her composure add that to fact that Gideon has started dating one of the other deputies and she is close to breaking down. Gideon never stopped loving Moira it has never wavered, he has never given up but he's close to his breaking point now too. After so many years of being close but never being able to have and he can't move on with her so close it's not fair for the woman he started seeing because he never stops think about Moira. Moira's attack rattles some sense back into both of them they are finally able to talk about the past and straighten things out and move on hopefully with each other.

The motive for Moira's attack is someone is looking for the lost McKay treasure, only there isn't one. After her attack the IRS gets a tip that the family is hiding money from the government, bring trouble to the company, then it's discovered someone in the company has been embezzling and that's one more thing for Moira to worry about. Then Brannon's book store is set ablaze, then Moira's project that she put her heart and soul into the McKay Museum is torched as well. It almost seems like a never ending saga of "what the hell is going to happen next?" It is all revealed, but it's not over until the climactic ending.

Overall, this was a good series I loved the characters and the whole mystery arc in all three books. This book I love Gideon, Moira was a little hard to like at some points just because of her way of doing things and being stubborn. I swear I was almost screaming at her, "Just listen to Gideon Dammit!!" but other than that I loved it.

I LOVED the second book in the McKays series, so when I had the chance to read the next book, I couldn’t wait to start it! I also adore second chance romances too, so Gideon and Moira’s story should’ve been perfect for me. But sadly, I just never grew invested in their romance and the suspense/mystery was a little tedious to read. It wasn’t a bad read, but I didn’t love it the way I hoped I would. If you’ve kept up with the series, then you probably want to give this a try, otherwise it’s a little hard to read The Right Kind of Trouble as a standalone.

Moira McKay was Gideon Marshall’s childhood sweetheart, before she ripped his heart out and threw him away. Now in their 30s, they’re still in love with each other, but the years have drifted them too far apart for Moira to ever try to make up for what she did. Gideon is trying to move on with another woman, but when Moira’s life becomes at risk, he’s back in her life once again, unable to resist the only woman he’s ever loved. Will Moira be able to earn his forgiveness – and will Gideon take her back?

Small town romances are usually so sweet, so it was a nice change to read one with a mystery. Unfortunately, the suspense didn’t really have me hooked, so I was mainly focused on Moira and Gideon’s romance, which was a little heartbreaking and angsty. I really liked the hero and was impressed with the way he never stopped loving the heroine, though I was glad he tried to move on after what she put him through. I wish Moira had taken action sooner than she did regarding Gideon – SO many years have gone by, and just now is she trying to win him back. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series, this story might be a little confusing, so I’d definitely recommend reading the books in order. If you have read the series, The Right Kind of Trouble is a fairly good conclusion to the McKay family. I didn’t love it, but I did enjoy seeing how everything ended up!

The Right Kind of Trouble is the third installment of the The McKay series by Shiloh Walker. The author has once again delivered a hot, sexy romance that will leave you winded.

Moira McKay is the oldest of her three siblings and had to step-up to be the parent figure when their parents were taken from them due to a horrible car accident. However, despite their past these siblings have a great life. Her brother, Brannon is happy engage to Hannah and while expecting their first child. Moira’s younger sister, Neve is also engaged to Ian who’s a Scottish hunk and deeply in love with her sister.

Will Moira be able to find love like her siblings even if it took her 20 plus years to realize her mistake of rejecting Gideon. Can she be able to convince Gideon that she was wrong to turn him away when she clearly had feelings for him or will it be too late?

The Right Kind of Trouble is filled with a fast pace of suspense and second chance at love. I didn’t really understand Moira’s reason of always turning Gideon away, but I love that his love was genuine even with all the rejections. In addition I wish that there was a bit more “work” on Moira’s part when it came towards fighting for Gideon. I felt like he flew to her side at a ‘drop of a hat’. However, when they did get together the chemistry was flowing off the page and I love that the sex (even though it was steamy) wasn’t the main part of the book. Overall, the story was captivating with the hidden treasure and the second chance at love.

I recommend reading The McKay series if you enjoy a slow burning romance with a side of suspense.

This is book three in Shiloh Walker’s McKays trilogy. Readers of the first two will know that Moira and Gideon have been in love since they were in their teens, but do to a family tragedy where Moira lost her parents while being with Gideon, she had been rejecting him ever since. Now both in their 30’s, Gideon has given up on Moira while she finally wakes up to her foolishness. Someone is attacking the McKays with a serious vendetta that could cost them everything including their lives. Also in this story are Ian and Neve as well as Hannah and Brannon who are planning a double wedding. Moira has given her all for family since losing her parents, but now she sees a grim lonely future and realizes how most of that is her own fault.

Police Chief Gideon Marshall was prepared to move on and leave McKay’s Treasure to get away from the perpetual heartbreak, but after Moira is attacked and injured, he stays to protect her. Moira has been a frustrating main character in this series; I just wanted to shake her and say, “Are you blind or just stupid?” Gideon wins an award for being an all-around good guy who didn’t let repeated rejection totally wipe out his feelings for Moira and for taking care of her family.

This book is quite the emotional ride. I give credit to the author’s writing skills for making me feel strongly about the characters. I also appreciated the portrayal of the rural locals and their particular Southern way of life. If you enjoyed the first two books, then this will probably be a satisfying conclusion to the series.

Finally we get the full story of Moira and Gideon! This is the third book in the series and I guess it could be read standalone but you may be left with a few questions. Gideon has loved Moira for almost 20 years and he hasn't kept it a secret. Although she has feelings for him as well she has kept him at arms length after a vicious attack leaves her distrusting all men. Gideon has finally decided enough is enough and has decided to leave McKay's Treasure. This causes Moira to reevaluate her feelings and the way she's been treating Gideon. Is she too late?? When it appears that Moira and her family are once again the target of attacks, Gideon knows he can't walk away until he knows Moira is safe.

Definitely a book I would recommend but I do think you should read this entire series in order.

Warning: do not read as a stand alone!

Yes it can be read as a stand alone, although you will struggle to make sense of all the characters. I had not read the first two books in this series and admit I had a difficult time keeping all the characters and past events straight in my head. Initially I was alarmed at all the other characters that were involved, but seeing that this is the third book in a series it makes sense now.

This a second chance story about a young couple who are torn apart following a tragic event and remain apart for 18 years. Both have tried to move on from each other but neither have forgotten their past. A series of events brings them back together and they are forced to either deal with their feelings or finally move on from the past.

The third and final part in the McKay series.
Moira took on raising her siblings when disaster struck years ago, and at the same time she gave up on her own dreams. Gideon never understod why it had to end, but now years later he´s finally ready to move on, away from Moira. When Moira becomes the new target of whoever is targeting the McKay family Gideon has to make a decision. Could they find their way back together or has too much happened?
Contemporary romance, suspense and smutty fluff in a great combo, and a great conclusion to the series.
Disclaimer; I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the final installment in this series and it fills in the blanks that left us with questions after the first two books. Moira and Gideon have been in love since they were teenagers but spent the past 20 years pushing each other away. Finally Gideon has had enough and is going to leave once all the trouble and mystery is solved. This finally is the wake up call Moira needs to pull Gideon back into her life. That and she is attacked which sends Gideon over the edge and right to her side. Is there a treasure? What is the treasure? Who is causing chaos?

Favorite Quote: “I’m tired of being alone and being lonely. You don’t want me. I get that. But somebody else does.”

The Right Kind of Trouble is the third and last book in Shiloh Walker’s dark romance suspense trilogy-The McKays. Set in the small fictional town of McKay’s Treasure, we have followed each sibling as they struggled to deal with life, love, their legacy, and to understand the trouble that seems to be stalking them. This is Moira McKay’s story. Moira is the eldest. When their parents were killed in a car accident, Moira stepped up to raise her two younger siblings, Brandon and Neve. Young and grieving herself, she makes some choices that not only hurt her but her childhood sweetheart, Gideon Marshall. For twenty years she stuck to her decision, pushing him away, even going as far as marry another man. Now divorced, Moira spends her days caught between the past and the present, wondering if her reasons for hurting Gideon were worth it.

Gideon Marshall is the police chief of McKay’s Treasure. He has never stopped loving Moira, staying close to her in hope that someday she would someday tell him why she left him. When he’s finally had enough he makes the decision get on with his life. Without Moira. When Moira is attacked, Gideon knows he must figure out once and for all who has been targeting the McKays. But unless Moira is willing to open up and be honest with him about what happened, he’s determined to leave the town and the woman he loves for good.

Strong writing, well-plotted storylines, and dynamic characterization has given readers intense and sexy individualized romances to enjoy while attempting to solve the ongoing suspenseful mystery. Emotionally complex, the characters in here aren’t perfect and Walker highlights their flaws, creating people and situations we can understand and sympathize with. Though I have enjoyed this trilogy, I had issues with this book concerning the heroine and the romance.

The book opens with the McKays celebrating Brannon’s and Neve’s engagements. Gideon and Moira share a moment and Moira begins to feel like maybe she has been wrong all these years to keep Gideon at arms length. Especially when Gideon confirms the rumor he is dating someone. Moira is heartbroken when she sees Gideon with his new flame and even more so when she learns they have left town to go on a romantic getaway. When Moira is brutally attacked, Gideon rushes home to investigate and Moria realizes this may be her only chance to get him back.

Readers have waited impatiently for Moira and Gideon’s story since book one. This couple’s foreplay fuel bickering and secretive natures has fueled many speculations. Walker has left tantalizing hints and clues towards their relationship and it’s in here we learn the truth. I was convinced that the reasons Moira had for denying herself the man she loved were devastating and well worth the pain she leveled on both of them. Imagine my surprise when they weren’t.

I liked Moira in the first two books. Her strength, intelligence, and underlying support and loyalty towards her family and the town was a huge selling point for me but in here I found her irritating and juvenile in her emotions and actions. She seemed to excel at being overly dramatic while intent on taking everything that is happening to her and her family lightly; wanting to do what she wanted, when she wanted, without any thoughts to her safety or anyone else’s.

The story flows along at a steady pace, building on the romance and the mystery though they didn’t blend as well as I would have liked. Moira spends a good majority of the book in her head as she tries to show what happened to her and Gideon using flashbacks. The reason itself is very anticlimactic. I felt cheated after the build up in the two previous books. She punished Gideon and herself for years only to finally come clean and once she does (at the very end) it’s as if the past is instantly forgotten. While I could understand the confusion, pain, and guilt she felt at the time she made her decision, twenty years was way too long to wear that hair shirt. Moira not only acted the martyr, she wallowed in it. And we still don’t get a concrete answer for why she let it go on for so long.

I think I would have been far more sympathetic had Walker made Moira reveal her reason for pushing Gideon away at the beginning of book, allowing them time to talk and work past it as the story unfolded. Instead, it’s Gideon finding someone new and moving on that is the catalyst to Moira deciding she’s ready for her second chance and her attack is used to push them together. They are instantly thrown into a volatile situation and the intensity overshadows their reconnection; leaving it a forgone conclusion with nothing resolved.

What saves this story for me is Gideon, the ancillary characters, and the mystery. Gideon fleshes out wonderfully. His strength, intelligence, and dry humor drew me to him from the beginning. His unconditional love for Moira shines through the entire series even after he has reached his limits. He takes Moira and the investigation on with a single-minded intensity. I liked that he didn’t instantly accept Moira’s change of heart nor does he allow her to take control and make all the decisions like she did in the past. Characters from the previous books maintain a strong presence in here, each offering advice and help with the investigation. Engaging dialogue and moving scenes helps to draw your attention from Moira’s tantrums and add some humor to the otherwise serious situation at hand.

The villain is quite a piece of work and I was amazed at how far back his machinations went. Walker does an excellent job of showing us why they are targeting the McKays and what their endgame is. Using the past to propel the present, Walker plays her hand close to the vest, allowing us to be drawn along into their web of deceit until they reveal themselves.

The ending is a rousing finale of action, intrigue, and drama as everything comes to a head and all our questions are answered. Walker even includes a small epilogue of sorts that assures us that the McKays are finally at peace and each sibling has found their happily ever after.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

**THIS REVIEW WILL HAVE SPOILERS AT THE END. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!**

I gotta say, after seeing Moira and Gideon through book 1 and 2, it was nice to get their story finally. Though I feel like Moira needed to do A LOT more groveling and apologizing than what she did. I get she was traumatized, but Gideon had been waiting around for 18 years. He deserved more of an apology, in my opinion.

I loved so getting to see and get the previous characters viewpoint throughout the whole series. I just wish that their viewpoints were labeled cause it was hard to keep up with the change bergen between each one.

**SPOILERS**

I 100% KNEW IT WAS CHARLES SINCE BOOK 2!!!!!! I knew it! There were too many hints that have him away. What other character had a house or used to live in London? Who else could have possibly been connected with William? Who had been around the 2 McKays to know them, but didn't know Neve is terrified of needles? I guessed really early on and stuck to my prophecy, so I am really happy that I am right!

I'm glad I got the chance to read this series finally. I really enjoyed it as a whole and all of the mystery and romance was a nice balance of each other.

Gideon Marshall is the police chief of McKay’s Treasure. Bad things have been happening to the one of the most influential families, the McKays. He’s hitting his head against the wall as more and more danger keeps happening to them. When Moira McKay is attacked when he’s out of town, he feels responsible. The only problem is that Moira is the woman who long ago shattered his heart and he never quite got over her. He just doesn’t know how much longer he can be around her. Moira knows that Gideon is about done with her, but her brush with death has her finally getting over her self-imposed life of loneliness and misery. Now she just hopes it’s not too late as everything she and her siblings have worked hard for get destroyed.
As with the other two books in this series, I absolutely loved it. After reading the other two books,I couldn’t wait to see how it finished and I wasn’t disappointed. My heart seemed to break over and over for Gideon and Moira. I was happy that Moira was able to get over her guilt so she can try to find happiness before it’s too late. I highly recommend this book and this entire series.

A good end to a good series. I loved Gideon, but Moira was a hard head. I also loved the guard dogs. I had a feeling I knew who the murderer was during the second book, but I wasn't positive until the author started to reveal it. I had a good chuckle during the last scene. A series well worth reading. Love this author.

The third part of the McKays trilogy tied up the loose ends of the many tragedies engineered by a descendant of a man who planned the accusations and death of Paddy MacKay the original patriarch of the MacKay family. Moira MacKay and her soulmate Gideon Marshall are finally able to resolve their breakup and find the happily ever after that has eluded them for almost 20 years.

Moira's been blaming herself and keeping hself from Gideon for years, they both love each other and have been miserable until Gideon tries to move on and the danger surrounding the McKay's fixes everyone priorities. Very slow start, I almost walked away from finishing it. Last half was much more interesting.

Moira was flawed in interesting ways and brave and kind when it counted. I particularly enjoyed the showdown with the villain at the end.

4 STARS!

This was the third book in the McKays Series and I, personally, think that it is best to read the first two books prior to reading The Right Kind of Trouble. There is an ongoing mystery threaded throughout each book which culminates to a conclusion in this one. The first book has its own mystery, as well, while the second book is more of a bridge and ongoing story leading into the third. There is a separate romance in each book centering around one of the three McKay siblings. In The Right Kind of Trouble, Moira and Gideon are the main romantic interests with prior book MC's being secondary characters in this story. I didn't care much for Moira, but since I really loved Gideon, I was able to overlook what I found unappealing in Moira.

I genuinely enjoyed this book, but if I had to choose a favorite in the series, I think it would be the first book. I appreciated the multiple POV's in this book, as well as the others in the series. In the most enjoyable way, the multi-POV's give a window to the thoughts and contributions of each main character, the unknown villain, as well as many of the secondary characters. I wasn't surprised when the villain was revealed, but I also wasn't absolutely positive of their identity. The details that comprised the book were well thought out. In fact, I found myself amazed by all of the details woven throughout the three books that eventually yielded a finale that wrapped up the mystery nicely. I enjoyed following the complete series and I would, without hesitation, read a similar series by Shiloh Walker.

My only issue with this book was the editing and I, rarely if ever, comment on editing. I wouldn't even begin to fault the author as I would the publisher. Since this book is published by a mainstream traditional publishing house, I'm very surprised by the amount of errors not caught and corrected. It made me think that a rush to publish this story was the priority over quality . The errors were mostly missed or additional words, but they were hard to overlook due to their effect on sentence structure. I found myself having to re-read sentences in order to decipher the intended meaning. This was not the case in the first two books. Fortunately, it did not deter from my overall enjoyment of the book and series.

The Right Kind of Trouble,  Shiloh Walker

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance,

Well, the final part, the home straight, and the couple that have so intrigued me from book one.
We start with the party where Hannah and Brennan, Neve and Ian are getting engaged, and Gideon has finally decided its time to let go, to stop waiting and wondering if Moira will ever let him in. Its been so weird all the way through looking at these two – its clear they both love each other so why won’t they let themselves be together? Its Moira that's the stumbling block, but why?
Finally we get the answer but...given all the build up it didn’t really feel enough for me. Twenty years because of guilt? And she’s punishing Gideon too, and they guy just doesn’t deserve it. He’s so loyal, been waiting for her to give him a sign for 20 years no less, (whoops, I typed Sigh there instead of sign, and there’s been far far too many of those. Freudian slip) and then when finally he decides to move on then she wants him? I got pretty cross with her, wanted to shake her and tell her not to be so selfish. She had her chance, and after all this while, just when the poor man decides to look elsewhere Now she suddenly wants him back? Gideon is cautious, rightly so IMO. Will she just let him dangle once more when he’s back to the not-with-her-but-always-waiting side-lines?

Of course Moira hasn’t had it easy, losing her parents at just 18 put her in a position of massive responsibility, helping raise her younger siblings Brennan and Neve, running and growing the huge company which she’s done so well.
Ella-Sue has been a huge support to her, regards the trio as her own kids, and is still always there when they need her, with her quiet wisdom and knowing what they really want to do. She’d love to see Moira and Gideon together, knows they should have been all these wasted years, and she’ll push Moira to what she needs to do in her gentle but forceful, loving way.

Its not just hearts and flowers though, there’s a real danger to the whole family. People have been murdered and attacked, homes and businesses burned and its finally clear that this is a personal attack on the McKay family. Who’s behind it though? Someone we know or someone new, and what's the connection, the motivation?
I’d an idea right from the start, based on nothing but an instinctive feeling, a dislike of someone. How it panned out though, the things revealed and the tense, dangerous but incredibly satisfying ending was a real surprise to me.
Once Moira stopped pussyfooting around and realised she was in danger of losing Gideon for good, she went all out. I did like her, admired how she’s worked so hard to support her siblings and to grow the business into the huge operation it was now. She’s liked in the town but doesn’t really seem to have many close friends, Neve and Hannah are probably closest, with of course the ever present Ella Sue. I could feel her loneliness at times, and felt if she’d had a couple of close friends they would have said to her to stop laying blame, stop with the guilt ands grab the chance for happiness. Its such a shame they lost 20 years, and if things hadn’t played out the way they did, with someone ready to kill for revenge, someone who’d killed already, who seemed to know where they’d be and when, to know just where to hit to hurt them the most, then they may well still be apart.

Its a cracking finale, been a great read. As a stand alone this book would have been hard to follow, there’s so much from earlier books that makes this one work and without knowing the history you’d miss so much of what knits this story together. Start from book one – its worth it!

Stars: Five, a fabulous finish
