Galine Karsavina knew Alex was trouble from the moment she met him. Now the evil genius with his too handsome face and toothpaste commercial smile is scheming against her. Alex is whispering lies in the ears of her sister and best friend Harper. Unfortunately, Galine has been telling lies of her own for months to keep her identity as the Gamayun a secret. Who will Katja and Harper choose to believe?
Even more troubling, Galine is beginning to suspect there’s more to Alex than just his frat boy exterior. Why is everyone but her so drawn to him and eager to do what he says? Galine struggles to unravel the mystery of Alex alone, determined to keep her distance from Sasha. But in her effort to keep the man she loves safe, has she cut herself off from the one person who might be Alex’s match?
Don’t miss this action-packed sequel to Call of Affliction, the first book in The Gamayun Prophecies.
I have been eager for this continuation of the Gamayun Prophecies. I was hooked by Call of Affliction and couldn't wait to see what was next for Galine and Sasha. It is not good news. Galine's suspicions about Alex were right on track and what he does is atrocious and will make you cry. We learn a lot more about Sasha's past. We also learn more about Galine's father. There are lots of surprises and big changes for all of the characters. I can't wait for the next book now to see where it all goes.
I highly recommend this series. Please do read the first book before starting the second so you can really enjoy the richness of the story. It is just a really unique story and like nothing I have read before. The characters are really complex and developed and I really identified with Galine from the beginning. She is such a fighter. She refuses to give in or give up regardless of the circumstances. Galine always prioritizes those she cares for above herself. I think that is why I liked Sasha so much as he is the only one who really makes sure she is taken care of too. He always puts her first. They are a great couple with amazing chemistry. Yes, their love is an important element of the story but at the heart it is so much more than a romance. I love mythology and history and the Russian elements of the story appeal to me a great deal.
Book two does not disappoint! I was hoping for more back story of characters to be revealed and got exactly what I wanted. This is one of my favorite things that Chase does. She makes complex characters come to life so much so that you feel you know them, but you are always left wondering what new things will be divulged. Characters continue to develop and even suprise you! I also love the new imagery that takes place in this novel as Chase takes us into the spiritual realms of this earth and beyond. And though I believe others have seen this as a turn toward darker prose, I didn't find it dark. I found it truthful and realistic. Yes there are dark characters and intense subject matter, but I wouldn't describe it as dark. Dark material to me suggests a lack of hope, and Chase keeps the door of hope open. Looking forward to seeing where book 3 leads!
Wings of Ash by Lara S. Chase has outdone the first book in the Gamayun Phophecies series. Picking up right where the first book leaves off, Galine faces more difficult situations. It is a fair bit darker than the first book, but has a wonderful plot line and answers many of the questions from volume one. The reader's favorite supporting characters are all there and we get a look into Galine's past. The Russian folklore continues to be the most unique take on urban fantasy I have found, and volume 2 doesn't disappoint with new facets of the culture.
When reading this book, I could not put it down. Like any great novel, it pulls you and and leaves you wanting more. We will all be waiting with anticipation for the next release!
I was hoping this book was going to be as good as the first one, and I'm happy to say it's even better! I loved it. I laughed, I cried, I couldn't put it down. It is darker and more emotional than the first, but that's what makes it better. When an author can make you feel for her characters, then she's done her job right. Ms. Chase has definitely done her job right. I love all her characters and care what happens to them. Can't wait for the next book, I know it's going to be a good one. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I got this in exchange for an honest review, I liked this one a lot I have not read all the series but I did enjoy this one I liked Galine and Sasha characters not only that but also the second characters as well this one is full of surprises but also full of details and everything in explained and well planned I liked the suspense the action the secrets that are revealed as well as the passion and love the emotions are great in this one you see it a lot of things that will keep you captivated I liked how strong they each are yet also soft I recommend this to everyone
A series that keeps getting better . I read the first story of the series and it took me a bit to warm up to, but wings of ash keep me on my toes. The characters are full of life, they make you feel like you're the one who is feeling all the emotions. Lots of twists and turns, bad guys switching sides. Gal. Coming to except her powers. There is death a destruction, but of all there is love and family bonding, and forget the humour. The story is a well balance of good and bad.
Galine has lost everything because of Alex. She is in New York doing her best to survive and deliver her messages. Alex learns a hard truth about his father and decides to help Galine, but this only puts Galine's family and her best friend in danger. Now Galine and all of the people closest to her will be on the run from Sirin's revenge. Exciting, fascinating read, I love these books!
I received this ARC free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
