Masterson holds himself to the highest of standards, but a chance encounter with a human woman in the most mundane of places turns his world on end. What's a vampire to do when temptation for more than blood consumes him?
A storyteller from the time she could talk, USA Today bestselling author Ellis Leigh grew up among family legends of hauntings, psychics, and love spanning decades. Those stories didn’t always have the happiest of endings, so they inspired her to write about real life, real love, and the difficulties therein. From farmers to werewolves, store clerks to witches—if there’s love to be found, she’ll write about it. Ellis lives in the Chicago area with her husband, daughters, and a German Shepherd that refuses to leave her side.
DELICIOUSLY DARK AND SINFULLY SEXY !!! Title: Masterson: A Vampire Sons Story Author: Ellis Leigh Designation: Standalone Short Story (Published originally as part of the Dark Hallows Collection) My Rating: FIVE DELICIOUSLY DARK STARS***** Yowza! I totally fell in love with this story when I read it originally in the Dark Hallows Collection which was released a few weeks before Halloween. Masterson is a deliciously dark but irresistibly romantic antihero and he completely captured my heart! Masterson is a very old vampire who was sired by the Master. Get it? He's the Master's son so he's Masterson. And he is one drop-dead-sexy vampire! (Pun intended) Oh my! Swoon....This story really surprised me and it was a very pleasant surprise. I'm a diehard Ellis Leigh fan but this was so different than anything I've ever read by Ellis but I LOVED it! This story is well crafted, well written and well edited. The narrative is written in the first person as told by none other than Masterson and each chapter is a day of the week with the entire story unfolding in seven days. The dialogue is smart and effortless. It's bloody brilliant and Masterson is a work of art. He's one scary, creepy dude and I couldn't get enough of him. This story is rich, dark and intense so be forewarned, it's not for the weak of heart. But never fear, it seems that even devilishly devious vampires can fall for the right person, especially if it's the one for whom he's searched for hundreds of years. And wouldn't you just know it, she just happens to be a medical examiner, and she secretly knows what he is and does lead him on a merry chase. Oh, and did I mention she's also a necromancer? Huh? Oh yes she is! Yep, Masterson has it bad for Dr Vale Theroux or 'Plum' as he likes to call her. Oh goodness! So, what does a centuries old vampire do when he finds something he loves more than the thrill of the chase and the taste of blood? We'll see! This is one sinfully seductive read and I loved every minute of it! Another fabulous read Ellis Leigh!
I’ve been on a vampire, paranormal romance kick for about the last month, so when I found out Ellis Leigh had a (relatively) new story out, I knew I had to dive it. Masterson: A Vampire Sons Story is the first original novel/lla I’m reading from Ellis (though I’ve been familiar with her work for several years); I must say this was a deliciously smutty introduction!
The novella is only about 80 pages, yet Ellis has done such a great job with worldbuilding. In paranormal stories (perhaps even more than other genres) I think it’s so important to define the rules and parameters, and Ellis does it in a masterful way (pun intended!). By the time I've finished reading, I have so many questions and speculations. My fingers are crossed that Ellis will consider answering them in future books!
I received a free copy from InstaFreebie. 3.5 stars rounded down It's a dark erotica with a major cliffhanger. I liked the way it went slow for a few weeks, but at some point, Masterson was daydreaming during those weeks and I had to think "OK, calm down boy" - him, not me. What does "honeyed death smell" mean? How did Plum know Masterson had a big dinner last night since he took care of the body - here too is where it's really dark → vampires dispose of the bodies like it was nothing and that didn't feel right with me. We are left with a few mysteries, one of them being that we don't know what the tattoo means, the other is what happens at the end since there's a major cliffhanger and will this be an HFN or a HEA? Editing: there is an unfinished sentence (leaving them all fuzzy and .), and there are a couple of with/without me errors.
He's been around a really long time and he's been looking for just that one to give him both pleasures in life. She's both unexpected and yet everything he's been dreaming of, the fact she's into him as well is icing on the cake.
I had trouble with the rating on this one. The story and the writing is very well done. I don't remember finding any editing errors or typo's of any kind. It flowed quickly and definitely deserves at least 4 stars.
This was not your typical misunderstood, good guy vampire story. Masterson is a vampire from our nightmares. He has no regard whatsoever for humans. He is looking for his idea of a perfect donor. If he drains a few dozen or more humans in the process, he flat out does not care! When he runs into his 'Plum' it is the smell of death that surrounds her that attracts and beguiles him.
'Plum' is a bit of a mystery. You don't know if she is human or something 'other'. You are kept speculating until the 9th chapter. Then you get you 'Ah ha' moment.
A great Halloween story. Macabre and erotic. Very different and most definitely intriguing.
This author brought me a good story....the characters were interesting and good. Him being a older and up the hierarchy of the vampire line made him interesting. And when he met his blood interest I wasn't sure what was going to happen. It seemed he wasn't in for anything other than blood. But he surprised me as did his "Plum". She was more than we knew about her. Good reading, interesting story and I'd definitely recommend it. That way you can find out what happens between them!
Just didn’t grab me even though the plot was good. Didn’t like this world at all. Too cruel and selfish. I think it was the callous way the vampires killed anybody they fed from. I disliked the disregard for life. No real romance or HEA. More sex based. But I did love Plum/Vale’s job. This is my honest opinion of this book which I have reread through Kindle Unlimited in 2020.
Masterson is a very old vampire and is looking for someone to be more than just a passing blood donor. He comes across a woman who smells sweet (in fact he calls her "Plum") and there is a slow seduction (a bit like you would find between 2 humans).
Super short! Masterson is kind of a dick. Okay, he is totally a dick. But I like him. Not sure why, but I wanted him to find his HEA, even if it probably won't be ever after.
