I received a copy of this book for an honest review. It is the first time I have read a book by this author and I liked it very much. Its part romance, clean romance, part thriller/mystery. its about a struggling musician coming to a small town looking for a gig. He runs into an accident on a deserted road, and tries to save a guys life but to no avail. The guy however passes away but the musician has a message to deliver to his daughter in a tiny small town that he is near by, called Lucky Shor ...more

Kerry Donovan’s writing style is admirable; his method of telling a story is easy to read but gives a depth to a plot that keeps the reader interested.
The book is set in a small town called Lucky Shores in the Colorado Rockies, a town struggling in poverty. But rich in disparate characters.
I loved the protagonist Chet Walker, a musician travelling around the country, looking for gigs to perform in wherever he can find them. The author has created a many-sided character with a mysterious backgr

On Lucky Shores: A Chet Walker Adventure by Kerry J. Donovan

Once there he meets Josephine Dolan, the daughter of the accident victim. She does not want to hear what her dying Father had to say. On Lucky Shores is a great story told by a skilled wordsmith.

I enjoyed the tale so much that I tried to pace myself to six chapters per night, but after getting half-way I couldn't put it down, and finished it in the wee hours of the morning. Be warned, once you start this book it is nigh on impossible to put down.

The development of the two main characters, Chet and Josie, is superb and the author throws a clever emotional curve ball with his depiction of the sheriff. I never spell out the plot

Using a unique, creative prose style, Kerry J. Donovan leads the reader on an absorbing and at times, nail-biting ride. The main romantic couple are a kick: the female, a fierce, pint-size mountain goat of a gal; the male, a sensitive, karate-chopping songster, who together, create a bond that is truly appealing. With movie-like descriptions and a well thought out plot that unfolds like an onion, this was a compelling page-turner. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended!

The opening to this book is great and the general drive impelled me to finish it, but the middle is a bit meh and the characters are a bit cardboard cut-out. Don't let that put you off, if you like a undemanding story with a decent story-line. ...more

Singer/songwriter Chet Walker has been running from his past for the last eighteen months, hitchhiking from town to town, singing for his supper and hoping for inspiration along the way. As he heads towards Lucky Shores, a little town in the Rockies, after seeing a billboard advertising an open mic night, he witnesses a terrible car accident. The only occupant of the car is in a very bad way and as Chet does what he can to help, the dying man whispers a few words, a mysterious message for hi

Well, this was a cracking good yarn! Not the sort of book I'd usually choose at all, but I enjoyed it.
It's set in hick town Lucky Shores in the Colorado Rockies, in winter. All I know of Colorado is Dynasty and South Park, and Lucky Shores is definitely more Skeeter's Bar, South Park, than Krystle and Blake Carrington. The story starts when drifter musician Chet Walker (what a great name!) wanders into town, looking for a gig and a place to

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Lucky Shores is one of those books that keeps you up at night, turning the page, wanting to know what happens next. A nice mix of scenery, relationships and action, with plenty of mysterious twists and turns, keeps the pace of the story moving nicely. You don’t end up loving everyone at the end – and even want to yell through the pages at a few of them – but that’s what helps keep the story

"On Lucky Shores is the first in a new action/adventure series by Kerry J Donovan. In this book we are introduced to the elusive Chet Walker, a man who at first doesn't know his walk in life. He literally stumbles into the small Colorado town of Lucky Shores - he really doesn't know what he has let himself in for by staying!

On Lucky Shores is an action packed adventure that I greatly enjoyed. This time the author has used American dialogue and spelling, which I'm sure will delight all his reade

For me this book stands out because of the main character: Chet Walker, a travelling musician, who arrives in Lucky Shores, a sleepy, Colorado, small town that has its shares of secrets, history and under-currents. His narrative and perspective on the town as an outsider is humorous and easy to relate to; he is a very watchable man.
When he meets Joey and delivers a message from her father, things are not going as smoothly as he had planned. The chemistry between the two of them and their changin

My first read by Kerry Donovan and look forward to reading many more.

The storyline of On Lucky Shores was captivating and a very quick paced read. It was one that I had a hard time putting down. I loved the growing relationship between Joey and Chet which evolved at a good pace in the story. Without giving away any spoilers, I found myself carried through the story wondering who the "bad guy" really was. Very good plot and one that was carried at the proper pace in the story to keep me turning

Counter to the stereotypical characters found in many mystery novels, On Lucky Shores features a uniquely memorable protagonist, Chet Walker—wandering musician and beholder of the last words of a dying father. Chet’s not your average crime investigator as he sings for a living (what little he can scrape up) and suffers at the scrutiny of a town of unwelcoming citizens targeting him. Packed with intense passion and well-crafted suspicion, the story reveals Chet’s steadily renewed self-assurance b ...more

Chet is a traveling musician headed for the town of Lucky Shores, hoping to land a job in the advertised saloon. He witnesses a terrible car crash in a horrendous storm and tries to help the driver who has been impaled by a part of the car. The driver gives Chet a message to give to his daughter, "I didn't do it, and tell her I drew snake eyes." Chet is cut by the broken glass and the paramedics take him to the hospital where the driver dies without coming to. Turns out the driver stole $28 mill ...more

Kerry Donovan has another hit on his hands. On Lucky Shores has everything you could want-mystery, murder, adventure, romance and a little sarcastic humor (my favorite kind!) The only downside is that once I started this book I didn't want to do anything else except read (my highest compliment!) There is an element toward the end of the novel that totally blew me away. How Mr Donovan pulled that one out of his hat, I have no idea. The amazing thing is that this unusual plot device fits perfectly ...more

Absolutely loved this book, the suspense is riveting, the characters multifaceted and interesting and the town could be any little backwater town in America. This author truly has a gift for writing an exciting and action-packed story, I have read his Ryan Kaine series and it too was fabulous reading.
Book 2 is on the horizon, catch up with this one so you are ready for the next chapters in Chet and Josie's adventures.

Great suspense romance novel

This author built this suspense story keeping the reader reading all out to learn the stories behind the characters and solve the mystery. The romance is building there, too.
