Oh my goodness! This book was great! I enjoyed it so much. I really liked the two main characters and the way their lives ended up intertwining. The setting of Pine Gap, Missouri was the same as the previous books in the series, however, readers should be able to pick up For the Record and enjoy this story even if the other books have not been read.

Deputy Joel Puckett was in over his head as the out of town law enforcement called in to straighten out the trouble going on in Pine Gap. I really fe

With 3 full length stories & 1 novella set in the small Ozark Mountain town of Pine Gap, this has been a really enjoyable series by Regina Jennings. It wasn't a location or a time era I cared to read about initially, but from the very first story, Regina was able to capture me fully into the lives and loves of this town. I have eagerly anticipated each release of another venture to Pine Gap. Full of lawless individuals, trying to survive and carve out a life for themselves & their loved ...more

For the Record is a fabulous addition to the Ozark Mountain Romance series. All I can say is that I love this book! I believe this is my favorite of the series. Betsy and Joel are two fun characters to get to know. I found myself laughing out loud so hard in many parts of the book. Highly recommended.

Regina Jennings is a certified go to author for me. She never disappoints. For the Record is a fun and romantic read where heroine Betsy Huckabee is all grown up, lovable, and a hoot. Then again I expected nothing less.

Deputy Joel Puckett, brooding, and manly, walked into town with one thing on his mind; the law. Little did he know he'd get a lot more than he bargained for with Betsy at every turn. Literally.
I just loved reading her story. Lots of funny parts, some intrigue, and my favorite, the

If Nancy Drew channeled Laura Ingalls Wilder she would still need more mettle and gumption to equal Betsy Huckabee. Betsy is a strong, independent woman who is loyal to her family but dreams of having her own fulfilling life, including writing fictional serialized stories.

Sheriff Deputy Joel Puckett arrives in Pine Gap, MO after dark, knowing no one and without anywhere to go. He is the definition of alone, having even left his horse behind.
He is there to quell recent unlawful events and to pro

Welcome to the Town of Pine Gap in the Ozarks, where Betsy is from. The town is full of a bunch of interesting and in many cases lawless characters, and the town law enforcement officers turns a blind eye to their activities. The people there are all trying to grab a little piece of life and land in Pine gap for themselves and their family, and some of them will do anything to get it. Now, there is a new Deputy from Texas shows up in town, Joel, and he falls for Betsy - and he does not throw his ...more

For the Record, fiction can reveal as much truth as fact. In this rousing novel by Regina Jennings, she plays with the themes of disguise and deceit, truth and justice, to uncover messages about faith and love. Set in Pine Gap, in the 19th century Ozark mountains, this tale seems innocuous on the surface, but its meaning is serious.
Betsy “just couldn’t stand to let a mystery be. Not when there was a chance on her figuring it out.” When Joel, the new deputy, arrives in Pine Gap, Betsy becomes hi

It's the third in a series, and the main female character, Betsy Huckabee, has been stealing scenes in other people's stories since she was a small girl. She was such a lovable little bombshell in A Most Inconvenient Marriage, I thought Regina Jennings set herself a hard task to make the grown up Betsy as appealing as her younger version. She is still original and independent, but while it came across so gutsy and cute for a little girl, it's a different manner for a woman in her twenties. I thi ...more

I guess I didn’t at the time I read this book that it was third in a series. That says a lot for the author that I thought this was a stand-alone book. Deputy Joel Puckett didn’t’ want to leave the town he was working as the Deputy, he had to. A very conniving woman made it so he was alone with her overnight and he had two choices, marry her or leave town and go somewhere that he could work as Deputy where no one would know him. He comes to the small town thinking probably not goes on there, onl ...more

"A hero always came back for his lady."

That is a statement that Betsy Huckabee carried both in her heart and in her words. She longed one day to be a great writer and find a way to support herself so she wouldn't be a burden to her aunt and uncle any longer. Working to find interesting stories for the Pine Gap, Missouri paper wasn't easy in a small town where most folks knew the latest news even before it made it to print. She just knew that she had to try and find a way to make it on her own as

Betsy Huckabee might have been raised in the Ozark Mountains, but she has dreams to be more than your usual mountain lass. She knows that her imagination is the ticket to getting a cabin of her own so she's not bound to living with relatives forever. So far her stories haven't been picked up by any of the big city newspapers she's submitted them to, but she believes her day is coming. I have been waiting on Betsy Huckabee’s story since I met her as an adorably precocious child in A Most Inconvenient Marriage. Needless to say, she hasn’t quite grown out of her precociousness as an adult. When combined with Deputy Joel Puckett’s prickliness, it translates into some quite delightful banter between the two as well as multiple opportunities for giggles at Joel’s expense. (You may also remember Joel from Caught in the Middle, part of her Ladies of Caldwell County series.)

This was my first Regina Jennings book and evidently is the third book in the series. However, it didn’t deter me from being able to know what was going on and who was who. I thought it read fine as a standalone novel. I have plans to go back and read the first two so that I can get the character depth I so love!

That being said, I expected a much lighter read, as in, filled with humor and quick wit I’ve heard that the author instills in her stories. While I did find myself chuckling a time or t

Boondock hill country of Pine Gap, Missouri 1885

In my previous review, for book #2, At Love’s Bidding, Betsy Huckabee is a young girl from the hills who has GREAT insight. She is spunky, outspoken and very protective of those she cares about. In this book, she is all grown up and is a local reporter for her uncle’s newspaper. She has a desire to become a journalist for a major paper someday. She believes herself to be married to her career, and has carefully avoided

For the Record was my third foray into Regina Jennings creative workings and, hands down, my favorite to date!

I adored Betsy's character. Her imagination, her stubborn streak, her fierce loyalty and dreams all equally balanced with her very believable flaws to present the most human of Jennings heroines yet. With her personality leaping off the page, I was curious how Jennings would pair up (because let's be honest in this genre someone is going to get paired up) such a vibrant character while n

For The Record is Book 3 in the Ozark Mountain Romance series written by Regina Jennings. This also is a stand alone book. The story takes place in Pine Gap, Missouri in 1885.

Deputy Joel Puckett was given the option to move to Pine Gap or lose his job and reputation. When he arrives at Pine Gap, the community is not welcoming. The previous sheriff did not do his job and a group of men formed the Bald Knobbers. The Bald Knobbers is a group that goes out in masks providing what they consider justi

I absolutely guarantee that if you have enjoyed the first two books of the "Ozark Mountain Romance" series, you are going to love "For The Record". I was quite captivated by the spirited Betsy, a young woman confident in who God has made her to be, even if that means she ignores social conventions and is willing to wander the countryside trying to satisfy her journalistic cravings. Her antics had me grinning from scene to scene, and throw in some romantic tension and unresolved secrets from Joel ...more

What a delightful story! Regina Jennings has created the perfect setting for her vivid characters.

The small town of Pine Gap is easy to imagine. I can picture the main street with trees surronding it on all sides. It would be difficult for a Texan, like deputy Puckett, who is used to wide open spaces to acclimate to the area. In Texas you can see for miles and miles. A homesteader can see a rider well in advance of them ever reaching their property. In the Ozarks homes are hidden on the hillside

I thoroughly enjoyed Regina Jennings’ spunky writing and refreshingly blunt dialogue, excited to see a fellow Oklahoma writer! Unable to put the book down, I was drawn into the story’s mystery as it unfolded in the small town of Pine Gap.

This Betsy Huckabee is a feisty young lady, a writer for her uncle’s boring newspaper with dreams to write for bigger newspapers. Perhaps then she might make enough money for a home of her own, a chance for independence.

For the Record by Regina Jennings is a historical fiction book set in Missouri during the late 1800s. I’m a big fan of historical fiction. Betsy Huckabee longs for independence and she knows that writing for a big city newspaper is the way to gain it. The problem is that the papers aren’t buying her reports on the vigilante groups protecting the hills of Pine Gap. But when a new Deputy, Joel Puckett, comes to town, Betsy decides to write a fictionalized series for the ladies’ pages using him as inspiration. Now if only he’d say something quotable!

What a wonderful romp of an Ozarks story! I laughed at least three times, I might have teared up at one point, and there wasn't a truly dull moment to be found.

Betsy and Joel are both adorable, sympathetic characters. Betsy Huckabee, who I enjoyed as a young girl in previous Regina Jennings novels, is now all grown up at 24, happily "on the shelf" and looking for a way to become independent. Along comes the quite dashing Deputy Puckett from Texas. She finds her story, and eventually love. Oh, a

Thoroughly crafted characters that just jump off the page and a story that hooks the reader are just a few of the reasons I loved this book.
