Dancing is like magic. It makes me disappear.

When I dance I’m not a sister or a daughter, not a lover or a friend. I exist in the moment, onstage, where I turn pain into art and pretend the illusion is real. My past is an abomination and my future is unwritten, but my present is pure, fluid, and focused. I’m content, or at least

A drunk ballerina walks into a bar.
I was hooked from the very beginning, right at that line, this book pulled me in. This was my first read by this author, but it definitely won't be my last! I really enjoyed the writing and the storyline kept me intrigued.

Cole and Nikki's story begins with a ONS. They have a connection but both of them have decided on only one night. Yet it's obvious they feel a loss by the end of it.

I had to take a few deep breaths after I finished Breaking Skin. This story was so powerful and the characters phenomenal. My emotions were all over the place but the one emotion I kept experiencing throughout the story was faith. I had faith in Nikki and Cole. No matter what obstacles were thrown at them I believed in them. Debra Doxer has created two beautiful and exceptionally strong characters.

Nikki and Cole were two broken and flawed people in their own way. Their will to survive showed no

Debra Doxer rocked this romantic contemporary suspense about two broken people finding each other during an unlikely time and never losing the feeling they get when together. I read this book in a day thanks to the lovely and compelling story telling of Doxer. She so easily allows the reader to naturally feel the gambit of emotions her characters feel.

I had no idea what a powerful story I would find on the pages of this extraordinary novel. The words were potent and the messages were based in reality and numbing as well. More than a romance, more than a love story -- it comes packed with dedication, pain and hurt, lies and abuse beyond imagination, friendships both human and furbaby, along with a second chance at happy ever after with your soul mate. Several strong characters step forth and their presentations deliver a strong impact. The wri ...more

This author never fails to amaze me. With her stories. Her characters. With her words. Breaking Skin is a profound love story.

“There are certain events in your life that leave an indelible mark. They change you because they write themselves on your soul.”

It takes one moment for someone to imprint themselves on your heart. And that’s what happened to Cole and Nikki. They were both out one night, trying to forget the downward spiral their lives

Debra Doxer is a phenomenal writer. She has several series’ under her belt including the Candy series, as well as the Remedy series. She can deliver a magical story within any novel. And Breaking Skin is no different.

Breaking Skin is a standalone contemporary romance novel. If you aren't familiar with contemporary romance, I suggest you give Breaking Skin a try. You can't go wrong with this book. I loved Breaking Skin, the way Debra is able to

I was very intrigued by Debra Doxer's Breaking Skin when I first read the description. I love stories that involve dancing and older man/younger woman romances often intrigue me. When I began realizing this book was not at all what I was expecting. Doxer's has a talent for penning a beautifully written story and though it took my a few chapters to get fully invested in the characters (I wasn't a big fan of Nikki at first), once I was all in I could not put the book down. I loved Cole, such a per ...more

First of all, let me just quickly say that I received the ARC of this hauntingly beautiful story in exchange for my honest review and I can concentrate on all the feelings it gave me... :) honestly, I signed up for it, because the synopsis intrigued me... but I absolutely did not expect that this story will be this... emotional and stunning... I have no quotes to share with you today, but that is in no way indication of the lacking writing style... just the opposite :) it was so beautiful, that ...more

I've read a book by this author in the past that I LOVED so much and became one of my favorite paranormal books. It was so different that I automatically became drawn to this one.

Breaking Skin turned out to be NOTHING like I thought it was, but in the best way possible. I found it EXTREMELY hard to put down. I loved how this book was original and kept me on my toes. Not only was there romance, but there was some suspense and self-discovery as well.

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like

Why did it have to be Nikkie's sister that is Cole's fuck buddy? I hate how he had allegiance to Renee for a bit. Fuck her. I know she went through alot but I came to dislike her a lot little, not just for being with Cole but she lied and was being a horrible sister to Nikkie. I don't want to read about a hero being with other women. It doesn't make it a great read for me. Why couldn't they just be good friends, why did sex have to be brought into the mix? It's always the same

This book was nothing like I expected to say the least. I ended up finishing it in one sitting! In all honesty, I am not even sure how to word my thoughts for Breaking Skin and pin-point exactly what it was about this story that had me sit my butt down from start to finish.

Breaking Skin is a contemporary romance with a dash of suspense that hooks you into the story. If you are big on fate and HEA, this is definitely the story for you. The author’s writing was as beautiful as the b

The cover for breaking skin was absolutely beautiful and as it so happens I love butterflies...this book was emotional and had a bit of surprise and I loved it, did not dissapoint....I love the fact too that I had to read until the very end or almost to figure some things out, loved the twist there as well! I was honestly a little heartbroken that Cole had slept with both sisters but I quickly got over that when I realised he loved Nikki

As soon as I read the synopsis for this book, my interest was piqued, but what I ended up getting was so much more than I could have hoped for. While I was reading Breaking Skin, I didn’t want to put it down. When I wasn’t reading it, I was still thinking about the story and the characters. Nearing the halfway mark in the book, I began to check to see how much time remained, not because I was anxious to finish, but because I didn’t want it to end.

As an avid reader of contemporary romance, I am

I've been with my share of women, but I was completely blindsided by it, and I feel it now too. It's hard to explain what Nikki does to me. I'm incredibly attracted to her, although attraction seems like such a bland word for this feeling. It's deeper than that. It's chemical and volatile. It's a spark capable of igniting an inferno. Nikki was a ballerina who’s knee had been giving her problems and pain lately. She had been told she was a good dancer but not a great dancer. Her boyfriend Tag just dumped her. But before they were officially done he was already talking to another girl. Tag worked hard at being a dancer and Nikki also did. They would bump into each other at the studio long after rehearsals were over. They spent hours talking and Nikki was falling for Tag. But Nikki never did open herself up to Tag. But Nikki di ...more

Breaking Skin is my first book by the author.
I found myself hooked on the story by chapter three and it kept me engaged throughout.
I'm a sucker for age differences so this one was perfect for me.
A ballerina and an ex hockey star.
Both a bit broken, well that's a harsh word in my opinion, their both suffering and struggle to see their way out. But together they may just be what the other needs to work their issues out and come through it with a new outlook on life, on possibilities and love.

So good

Very very good story line...romance, suspense, mystery all tied together. However, when the characters changed in the book at first you didn't know who was talking..I just putting the character that's speaking at the beginning of the chapter when there is a change.

Once I found out that Cole is sleeping with Nikki's sister, I knew this was going to go downhill for me. I mean, I understand that Cole and Nikki had one night together two years ago and haven't seen each other since but I just can't get over the whole 'he slept with her sister' thing.

I love the author's writing; it's beautiful. I've said as much after reading her other novels. Everyone should pick up her books. Although I didn't really love this one, it could be someone's fa
