Det kändes som en seriebok nästan helt utan handling, även om den tog sig mot slutet. Hade tänkt läsa del två, men är rädd att är på samma sätt. Får se om jag ger den en chans.

Malin Biller har åter igen gett sig på en svensk klassiker och efter Fröding blev det alltså Birger Sjöbergs Kvartetten som sprängdes. Jag ska villigt erkänna att jag inte läst originalet, och det verkar ha påverkat min läsning av denna serieversion menligt. Det är inte så att det är dåligt, Biller är en alldeles för kompetent serieskapare för det, men det verkar som om det gått lite för fort. Denna bok, som alltså utgör den första delen av två, är på drygt 80 sidor, men det känns som om historierna som ska få plats hade behövt minst det dubbla för att komma till sin rätt. De som har läst originalboken och redan har historierna klara för sig kommer säkert att uppleva att de hänger med och förstår allt, men för mig kändes det lite forcerat. Jag hade gärna fått lite mer bakgrund till allt som sker, lite mer atmosfär av 1920-talets Sverige och inte minst lite mer visuella pauser i denna informationstäta serie. Med det sagt ser jag fram emot den andra och avslutande delen, för at göra mig ett slutgiltigt omdöme. Och kanske hinner jag även läsa Sjöbergs roman tills dess ...

Malin Biller has once again taken on a Swedish literary classic and after Fröding it was time for making Birger Sjöberg's Kvartetten som sprängdes into a graphic novel. I'll readily admit that I haven't read aforesaid novel, and it seems to have affected my reading of this comics version negatively. It's not that it's bad, Biller is much too skilled a cartoonist for that, but it feels like the process of creating this book has been a little too quick. This book, which constitutes the first part of two, is just over 80 pages, but it feels as if the stories would have needed at least twice that to get this right. Those who have read the original book and already have the stories embeded in their minds will probably recognise everything, but for me it all felt a bit rushed. I would have liked there to be more background to everything that happens, more atmosphere of the 1920s Sweden and not the least more visual pauses in this information-rich series. With that said, I look forward to the second and final part, and making up m y ind of the whole graphic novel. And maybe, just maybe I'll get the time to actually read Sjöberg's novel until then...
