Fortune takes on her toughest assignment yet: temporary librarian at the Sinful Library.

Join her as she muddles through the Little Sinful Readers’ Book Hour, discovers a dying man in the reference section, endures a fiasco at the Mudbug Roller World (where Gertie and Ida Belle reprise their roles as Roller Derby Queens), and faces not one, not two, but three attempts on her life.

Overdue, a Miss Fortune Kindle Worlds Novella takes place after the events in Jana DeLeon’s Hurricane Force, Book 7 in the Miss Fortune Mystery Series.

A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR: Overdue was not written by Jana DeLeon. Rather it is part of the Kindle Worlds program, wherein Jana DeLeon has allowed writers to create stories using the world of Sinful and the wacky characters it’s famous for. I wish to thank Ms. DeLeon for graciously allowing other writers to explore their own writing in a most Sinful way. Also, please note that this story is being released after the events of Book 7 of Ms. DeLeon's original series. Since I have no way of knowing what she plans for Book 8 or beyond, please forgive any discrepancies with my story and future Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune books.

This is a cute mystery involving former CIA assassin, Fortune, posing as a temporary librarian while she avoids the bad guys who are trying to find her. She is quite funny in this role, and while doing this, she has to also locate a murderer. It is a good story, despite the stereotypical main librarian character. A librarian myself, I do not appreciate the stereotype of the 'shushing' and stern librarian which are so outdated, while at the same time, I do not take myself so seriously that I can't laugh at it. Overall, this is a good story in the Miss Fortune series.

2023 bk 16. Jana DeLeon allowed authors the chance to write in her universe - of them Shari Hearn seems to be the best. I really felt that Hearn did an excellent job of continuing the characters, an even better job of describing a temp working in a public library not their own, and created a totally plausible murder for Sinful. Well done!

Nice addition

This was a nice addition to the Miss Fortune universe. I loved Ida and Gertie and their roller rink hijinks!

Cute story

The story premise, itself, is good, and the execution is fine; however, the characters are still off from the original series. Fortune seems more helpless in these stories, much more like the Sandy Sue she is pretending to be than the Fortune I've grown to love. I did like the roller derby touch to this story and can picture younger Ida Belle and Gertie characters trying that out.

I appreciate how difficult writing tribute stories in another author's world is, and Ms. Hearn is coming closer to the original characters with every book. Kudos to her for taking on these delightful characters!

Being Fortune and a librarian can be hazardous to your health

Fortune fills in for a pregnant librarian for 3 days until another librarian returns. Fortune is assigned to do storytime with a bunch of unruly kids. Ida Belle and Gertie help her out and decide to parade the kids around the library to find the quietest person in the library. What they find is a sleeping patron that turns into a murder victim. Lucy, Celia's friend of course wants to blame Fortune. Swamp Team 3 now has to solve a murder before another occurs. Enter writers, stealers liars and psychological traumas to figure out who the killers is. Great story!

Better than ice cream!

If you need a pick me up, and like a great mystery, this is the series for you. All of the writers of this series take the readers on imaginative adventures. These books are highly entertaining and meld hilarity with heartwarming good fun. Enjoy.

Still love the antics of Fortune, Ida Bel and Gertie....however these versions The Miss Fortune World, have just something lacking....Gertie isn’t as funny, and neither is ida bel....it’s like they were an after thought....

Just good however a very easy read

This book was a very good read. The actors were comfortable to the reader. The plot was a little slow at some places but did pick up before the end.

A delicious mix of humor, romance, and suspense.

What a delicious mix of humor, romance, and suspense.

Though the humor was present from the beginning, what surprised me was it's continued consistency. And it's density. The wry dry attitude Fortune brings as the main character, permeates description, dialog, and eventually an escalating danger that explodes into a riot of action and humor.

It is totally enjoyable.

With hints of romance and the eventual dollar coaster action sequences.

That the scenes include seniors and book characters (sorry, you'll have to read what that means) and piles of small children (figuratively speaking) is a bow to the author's ability to draw enticing characters.

I took my time reading this - readers can find my excerpt reading progress updates on the book's Goodreads page - wanting to savor this novella like a prize meal.

I literally highlighted so many passages I liked, my Kindle app had me remove some if I wanted to share any more excerpts.

For a breath of fresh reading-air, this is a great choice.

Highly recommend.

Not DeLeon but a Sinfully Good Mystery

Based on the popular mysteries by Jana DeLeon, this novella finds Fortune working in a library in Sinful, Louisiana. It is faithful to the characters of the series and the eccentricities of the tiny Southern town. Murder is done, mayhem follows, and Fortune comes out of it somewhat scathed but always the survivor. I will be looking for other works by this author. This one was a delight!

Loved it! One of the best of the KW stories set in Sinful that I've read yet. The length was great - a nice short read but the plot and characters were well developed. Great twist at the end and just as fun and funny as the original series. I hope the author writes more in this series and I'd love to read an original seris from her too. Enjoy

Fortune is the new Librarian

A great way to visit Sinful in between Ms. DeLeon books. The author has managed to provide almost the same amount of humor.
