Fifty of the world's most talented photographers spend a full day recording key moments in the lives of a wide diversity of American women--their daily lives, challenges, joys and accomplishments, and roles in the workplace, family, and community--in a remarkable assortment of photographs, accompanied by essay-length personal profiles, narrative captions, and extended quotes. 150,000 first printing.
Pictures of 50 women taken by 50 professional women photographers on April 8, 2005. Each photo is accompanied by a brief bio. The women represent a variety of ages, situations, and purpose, although I don't recall an engineer. The book is aesthetically pleasing and good for a coffee table. I would have liked an index or table of contents for the 176 pages so I could easily find the entries I want to look at again. The order seemed random. Grouping them in some way (age group, section of the country, etc.) might have made the book more memorable. As it is, the sole takeaway for me was an interlude on the diversity of roles American women undertake.
