Haunted by his years at war, Boston paramedic Gael Dominic spends his time saving other people’s lives. An empty house, a single friend, and living at work, Gael is not content with his existence, but he’s close. Gael was expecting his overnight shift on Thanksgiving to be the same as always—manic crowds, heart attacks...until catastrophe strikes, and Boston’s streets run with blood.
On the run from an abusive and politically powerful father, Silas has been on the cold, mean streets of Boston for days, injured, hungry and alone. When he wakes up in the middle of a nightmare, he expects to die in the same alley he was calling home.
Brought together by tragedy, Silas and Gael can’t resist their attraction. Gael may have saved Silas, but it’s his alleyway angel who brings Gael back to life.
As Christmas approaches, Silas and Gael learn how to love, despite their pasts. And as Silas' past closes in, Gael learns the greatest gift he could ever give isn't something bought in a store, but freely given from the heart.
I will be moving all my titles over the course of 2022 to my new author name, Sheena Jolie.

I also write as Revella Hawthorne. I write mainly gay romance and erotica, but I am branching out into polyamorous groupings and LGBT+ characters.
Saving Silas is my only contemporary. Everything else is paranormal, urban fantasy, or scifi/alternate universe.
I'm a nomad--I move a lot. My health is sporadic, so when I'm feeling well enough is when I'm writing. Which is good, as otherwise, I think my suffering translates to boring stories. ;)
I've learned the hard way that I can't do release dates until a book is 100% DONE. No projected dates anymore. For up to date and accurate information, find me on Facebook and Twitter. I RARELY come to GR. It'll be months before I'm back again.
Any books I have reviewed are my own opinions and done so without malice. I won't review a book anymore if I can't give it 3 stars or higher. Most of my reviews are based upon how a book makes me FEEL. Entirely subjective and personal. Exceptions are in cases of plagiarism and intellectual property theft or a massively horrible formatting job or erroneous content (ie the title and blurb don't match the interior.)
Well this one was a sweet and sexy quick read. I was actually surprised by the emotional depth it had considering how short this book is. I loved Silas and Gael both guys were great and I especially liked how the author balance out the way they needed each in different ways. For Silas, Gael was the physical strength he needed to be able to leave his abusive father and for Gael, Silas was the anchor he needed to push his past away. Even though I loved both MC I loved Gael a little more he was so protective and so sweet to Silas and there’s nothing I love more than a H that doesn’t deny his feelings and fights for the one he loves.❤️
He was hiding on the back streets of Boston, beaten, sore, and colder than he's ever been in his life, and he was being hunted like an animal. All because he was caught kissing a guy.
Gael (33) a veteran working for Boston EMS.
Six-one, 200 pounds, tattooed and looking as lethal as the day he got discharged from the army after getting shot in Iraq, Gael Dominic routinely frightened the shit out of the rookies at both the EMS garage and the firehouse.
Gael covering the overnight shift on thanksgiving, saves Silas's life. A touching somewhat atmospheric love story. At 177 pages, this was a sweet little story that left me wanting more.
I really, really need a story with Gael's best friend Jim, as the hero. "Six-five, rockhard body, Irish temper, 48 years old."
While this is a short story it felt much longer than its 90 pages, the characters were well developed and grew as the story continued. Gael Dominic is a Boston paramedic still haunted by PTSD, it’s ten years since he was medically discharged from the army, he still suffers from dreams and flashbacks leaving his personal life has been on hold, that is until he saves the life of an injured young man. Silas is nineteen years old and when we meet him he’s beaten and running away from his father who’s just discovered his son is gay. Gael and Silas desperately need each other and this is such a beautiful short romance. Both main characters are wonderful and I absolutely loved Jim.
It’s hard to believe it’s just less than a week since I started my first book from this author and now I’m totally hooked. I’ve read both Wolf and Necromancer books and with this finished I’m left waiting...
While mpreg isn’t really my thing I suspect I’ll end up reading her Bred for Love series written as Revella Hawthorne.
I truly adore this book. S.J. Himes never disappoints me when it comes to her impeccable taste of story telling and plot and twists.
When Silas’s father found out his son was gay, he simply couldn’t accept the truth and tried to send Silas away to a converting camp. Silas had no choice but to run away from his tyrant father. He ended up getting severely injured while he’s on the run and rescued by Gael who was a paramedic. While Gael sent Silas to hospital, he was completely charmed by this mysterious young man and couldn’t help himself and went back to the hospital the next day to find out more about him. He learnt that Silas was on the run and he needed help and he had to rescue him again for the second time.
This novella is all about finding family, holidays and about trust and love. I love how Gael saved himself by saving Silas. I am very happy that the two of them are able to cure the fears and problems of each others. A very enticing novella.
I love hurt/comfort, but I couldn’t help but feel it was a bit overdone with Silas being beaten by his father for years, then kidnapped, locked up, ends up homeless, starving, and then being shot by a random mad man on the streets…. How much bad luck can one person have????
And there was also no relationship development whatsoever. Gael thinks the word love when they have maybe said 3 words to each other. I could do insta-love if there is massive pining and thoughts about wanting to climb the other person like a tree, but here… nothing..
What bugged me also was the use of the name Gee for Gael. If you use a nickname, that’s fine, but here we got several pages where the name Gee was used for Gael and then all of a sudden he’d be Gael for 2 pages and then Gee again, and so on.
**** This is a wonderful short story, with action and love ! Green eyed Silas, 19, escaped his Dad, a famous, powerful man, after another beating. No Conversion Therapy Camp for him. So, he's on the run, when a gunman opens fire, spraying bullets on the Boston folks who are Christmas shopping. Silas gets shot.
Big man Gael/Gee, 33, is ex military combat medic, who is a Boston EMT/Firefighter.
All units are called to respond, and it's Lt. Gael, who finds injured Silas, and Silas has lots of bruises that aren't from the shooting. Gael sits with Silas at the hospital, and when he comes back later, he rescues Silas from his evil Dad and his goons.
Gael keeps him safe and a bond builds, that turns to love. Their attraction was strong from the start. We get firsts for Silas, and super hot sexiness from this pair.
Marvelous characters, a busy, action packed short story, with very sexy men.
This is a full bodied plot that flows well, and leaves us satisfied. Fantastic HEA. ENJOY !
Sweet story, but way too insta-everything for me and was wrapped up way too easily. But, it was a Christmas novella, so I'll be a little forgiving for that.
I really enjoyed this one, even if it was a little far fetched. It ended too quickly and I want more. The end says there's a 2nd book coming "Summer of 2016" and it's September so I don't think that's happened yet :( I'm sad, cause I could really use a good dose of Gael, Silas, and Jim. Jim, man, what a great guy.
VERY insta love, but cute. i do wish that this was a longer book rather than a novella. but for such a short book a lot happened, it was enjoyable i do like SJ Himes's writing.
I didn't even realize that this is a kind of Christmas story and accordingly it's sweet and insta-everything but I didn't mind. On the contrary I think this was exactly what I needed on a chilly spring day. I'll confess I came to this because of the fabulous Derrick McClain, that man can read me the phone book, and he doesn't disappoint.
Gael is a paramedic who has been living an emotionally closed off life life after harrowing experience in Iraq. On a run after a Black Friday shooter Gael encounters a wounded young man in an alley. He immediately starts calling him angel and that's what they become to each other. Gael physically saves Silas from harm and Silas cracking open the wall surrounding his heart and emotions.
Like all short novellas and Christmas ones at that things happen quick, the baddies are cookie cutter and everything resolves itself with bows and bells. Regardless of the story sticking to script I liked it and didn't care that all the boxes were checked: older MC in need of love, younger virginal MC in need of being rescued, meanie with unlimited resources etc.
These guys had actual heat on the page and I wished there was a sequel to see what they get up to in the future and I'd love to see Gael's friend Jim too.
For a holiday short story, it was great. I would have loved a longer version, with a little more back ground, and build up....but it might have gotten a little less holiday cheer...so that's okay. I really would have liked more background from Gael. I loved Gael being surprised by the holiday decorations, and his reaction.
Voto: 8
VERY insta-lovey!! Like instant attraction without even talking to each other and thinking the L-word after only spending a few days together. Therefore there was no relationship development to speak of. Also, the ending was a bit OTT but useful to quickly fend off the threat Silas' abusive father posed.
Still, this was a good hurt/comfort story with likable MCs with a bit of an age-gap (19 years and 33 years) which could have been even better with more emotional depth and if their dark pasts had been explored a bit more.
Once again, Derrick McClain did a great job narrating this book!
Voto: 3.5 stelline.
Gael and Silas… on word swooon.. The connection they share is so magnetic and sweet.. And we all need a Jim in our life! Can't wait for the sequel Silas mom deserves closure/resolution.. And come on daddy dearest needs what's coming to him! But if you want a epic read that keeps u wanting more when its done then this is for you
Instant falling in love, kind of a romance is what we have in Saving Silas. Both MC were acceptable, but the plot around them was, personally, way to rushed, undeveloped and emotionally simply didn't feel realistic. I missed a lot, sex simply didn't make sense, not so fast after the shooting or hospital or problems. So once more, definitely, NOT, realistic!
Mi hai fatto a pezzi e mi hai aiutato a trovare quelli migliori.”
