Every living creature on Earth has been devolved - the evolutionary clock turned back, reverting all life to odd mutations and prehistoric incarnations. The cities of man are little more than bloody territories ruthlessly dominated by tribal Neanderthals ruling from the backs of mammoths, packs of saber-toothed tigers, and giant man-eating insects. Writer Rick Remender (Black Science, Fear Agent), artist Jon Wayshak (The Authority), and colorist Jordan Boyd (Ant-Man, Planet Hulk) take you on a journey with the last band of "Still Sapien" humans in the hope of locating an antidote and re-evolving the human race.

He is the writer/co-creator of many independent comic books like Black Science, Deadly Class, LOW, Fear Agent and Seven to Eternity. Previously, he wrote The Punisher, Uncanny X-Force, Captain America and Uncanny Avengers for Marvel Comics.

Starts off okay with a strong woman, but then in the middle we have panels with a woman thrusting her naked tits at the reader before she is carried off to be raped because she and her boyfriend wanted to have sex in the dangerous area.

So yeah, I'm out.

This was hot garbage. Grotesque, hyper-violent, racial-slur-spewing alley trash. Sorry, authors, making things gruesome & making rape threats doesn't make you cool or edgy.

I have read the first 2 Tokyo Ghosts by him as well and did not love them aside from the artwork. But Devolution was stronger in story line, the artwork was great again, and the dialogue was a little bit better.

This was definitely an interesting read. And honestly I didn't decided that I liked it till almost the end of the story.

The first thing I noticed was the art style. It looked different from any of the other styles I've seen before, which was cool of course. I love the diversity of art in graphic novels. For Devolution I didn't like the style as much as I have in other books but at the same time I felt like it fit with the story. The world of Devolution is a primitive harsh and ugly world. And I felt like the art was trying to reflect the more harsh more simplistic look. I don't mean this in a bad way at all, it worked well for the story.

Devolution starts out introducing our main character Raja. Raja is a great character. She is strong, beautiful and kick ass. She faces the problems of fighting through ape men and even fighting against the last few ''sapiens''. Raja is a very relatable character. I'm trying not to give spoilers away but I loved her motivation for trying to find the antidote. And like I said earlier I didn't really like Devolution till the end, when there's a huge plot twist which was brilliant. I felt like the twist gave the story quite the push away from stereotypical ''tyring to find the cure for humanity'' story.

This is an adult graphic novel, there's swearing and sexual content. For those of you who don't like that stuff beware. If Devolution was a movie it would probably be rated R.

I would recommend this story to people who like end of the world, save humanity stories. I am also planning on reading the next in the series, when it comes out. I gave Devolution 4 stars on Goodreads and was given a copy of this graphic novel from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.

RICK REMENDER has done it again. This is a great new look at the end to civilized world, a great new retake to an apocalypse or dystopian era in the world's history. The beginning reminds me of several movies rolled all into one, Idiocracy, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Planet of the Apes and I am Legend. As much as I love the story, the artwork is going to take a bit to get used to it. Right after the introductions there is already a sex scene, which I could have honestly done without. I understand that it furthers the story with explaining just how much value everything has now, but it just feels like its rehashing a bit much of the after apocalypse times. Like I said though, its a great new take on what caused the world to go to crap but it is just a bit in your face with everything else. Then there is the outer space part, which is a major through back to Planet of the Apes. All in all a good first issue. Can't wait to read issue #2.

The art and storyboarding for this is a perfect rendition of how I used to imagine the world painted by James Axler, (publishing house nom de plume, as the actual authors vary under that name) fantastical creatures, improbably warped, pulling from the rich assortment of various creature b-movies that flavored our view of science fiction to this day. Fantastic artistry and story behind this, the dialogue of this appeals to the nihilistic side of me. Pondering questions about the various ills and ailments of our 'human nature'. Thought provoking, even with the smorgasbord of various creatures and murder, this treads that fine line between scifi and fantasy. Truly an enjoyable romp, I'm excited to read more.

I really enjoyed this comic hook.The main character is a strong,brave kick ass woman who is trying to prevent the extinction of mankind.The artist did a great job portraying the characters and the frightening creatures inhabiting earth.I feel invested in the story and am really curious to see what happens next.I received a copy of this comic book from the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
